I was stationed at the 737th from January, 1958 to January 1959 as the Personnel/Administrative Officer. There are so many tales to tell that I could fill up many pages. I think we rented the Saida Beach House for the first time during my tenure there. How may people remember Major Burch?? What an experience that was. I always wondered what happened to that site. We just did finish building the bowling alley late in my year there.. Airman Lenihan and I had to make the pay run 300 miles across Morocco to Sidi Slamane every month. We had some wild times with flat tires, once being stopped by fully armed Bedouin tribesmen who we were lucky to get past with all those French francs and dollars in our car. Who can forget the coal oil stoves in the BOQ which would backfire frequently in the middle of the night. I remember one of our AP's running through a herd of sheep on the way into the site. We had very angry Moroccans outside our gate for some period of time over that. Also, we shared the site with the French troops and several men from the the Army or Air force intelligence organization. I remember people like Jim Mehan, Bob Silva. We were all shave tail second lieutenants just out of school. How about Dick Wolfe who had his pink Chevrolet convertible shipped over!! He was the toast of Saidia. I also remember Sargeant Ernie Plude who I heard from several times after getting back to the States. I got out of the Air Force after one more year at Wright'Patterson and spent my career in Personnel Management mostly in the retailing. My wife and I are now retired and living in Naples, Florida. We have three sons and seven grandchildren.
I often think about, and have dreams about, those days in Morocco. Would love to hear from anyone out there who remembers that year I was there and would like to share memories. I think I have some photos of the site but they are back in our summer home in Columbus, Ohio. I'm sure glad I discovered this web site. My e-mail address is jhbullis@hotmail.com
