Long ago, a prostitute maned Mahananda who lived at Nandigrama. She was a devotee of Lord Shiva. She was very beautiful and famous. /2/

Replete with enormaous wealth. She was very rich, fair in complexion and was possessed fo many diamond studded-jewels. /3/

That prostitute was entirely absorbed in the chanting of Lord Shiva's name. She was always decorated with the Rudraksh-mala (rosary) and Bhasma (ashes). She regularly worshipped Shiva together with his wife Parbati. /5/

Once, Lord Shiva assumed the form of a Vaishaya (businessman) and went to visit the prostitute at her home to test her sentiment of devotion. /13/

Her forehead painted with Tripund (three limes). Wearing the Rudraksh, and engated in reciting the name of Shiva. Her head was decorated with matted-hair as shiva. /14/

That Vaishaya (Shiva) annointed with ash, wearing bangles and decorated with beautiful gems around his wrists. He looked like a magician showing his magical arts to others. /15/

That beautiful prostitute received him (Shiva) with pleasure and seated him with respect and honour. /16/

Having seen the beautiful bangles on the hands of Shiva, the prostitute desired to have them for herself, and said to Shiva surprisingly. /17/

These gem-studded-bangles-ornaments, worthy of wearing by gloriious women attract my mind gain and again. /18/

Thus having realised the prostitute's desire for the gem-studded-ornaments, that sober-sensed Shiva laughed and said... /19/

If your mind is so attracted towards these spendid jewels, then youmay wear them gladly, but what price would you give for them? /20/

I am improperly a sex-indulged prostitute and not a faithfully-husband-devoted woman. Improper sex-indulgence is my family tradition. There is not doubt about it. /21/

As these ornaments have attracted my mind, I am prepared to be as your wife for three days and three nights. /22/

O brave one! Your desire is very good. If what you said is true, then you can have the gem-studded-bangles and be with me as my wife for three nights /23/

O my beloved, in this transaction, the moon and the sun are the two witnesses. If what you said, is true, the repeat it three times and then touch my heart (embrace me). /24/

O Lord! I will indulge in sexual intercourse with you for three days and three nights as your wife. There is no doubt in this. /25/

Having repeated her solemn promise three times to Shiva, that prostitute (Mahananda) said - The sun and the moon are my two witnesses. Having said so, she delightfully began to fondle and hugging Lord Shiva /26/

There after Shiva gave the gem-studded-bangles t the prostitute. After giving the gem-studded-lingam in her hand, the Lord said to her../27/

O my beloved! This gem-studded lingam of Shiva (mine) is dearer to me than life itself. You should hide it away and protect it with care. /28/

So be it said the prostitute. She then placed the gem-studded-lingam in her dancing reoom and entered her house. /29/

Then the prostitute slept with that Vita-dharmi (the whore-monger) Shiva, in the night on the bed decorated with soft pillows and mattress. /30/
