| Q. What are Delta Gamma's policies on hazing and alcohol?
A. Delta Gamma has clear statements and policies about hazing and alcohol. Members and new members of Delta Gamma are educated on these policies each semester. The purpose of Delta Gamma is embodied in our philosophy and includes four basic goals: to provide friendship; to promote cultural and educational interests; to have a sense of social responsibility; and to develop the best qualities of character. Hazing corrupts the true meaning of fraternity life. It negates the values of loyalty, hope, trust, supportive friendship, kindness, and compassion that Delta Gamma affirms. The moral integrity of the chapter is inseparable from the conduct of its members, and because of this, we hold our members and new members individually accountable for their actions and the actions of the chapter. Because Delta Gamma supports the integrity and dignity of women, basic human rights, decency, honor, gracious living, and positive reinforcement of each other, there is no place for hazing (which is negative and archaic) in our Fraternity of women. Chapters are not permitted to impose menial or personal tasks or to allow any form of hazing. Any chapter officer responsible for allowing such activities shall be removed from office. Any member or new member planning or participating in a hazing activity shall have her membership immediately reviewed which may result in expulsion or termination. |

| Q. What is a new member and what is required of new members?
A. New members (formerly called "pledges") are non-initiated members of Delta Gamma who have accepted a bid (or invitation) to join Delta Gamma. The New Member Pursuit Program is an eight-week comprehensive educational program for women who are pledging Delta Gamma. New members are educated on the history, traditions, and policies of Delta Gamma, as well as learning time-management and goal-setting skills. New members are required to attend a Sunday evening new member meeting, as well as other Delta Gamma events throughout the semester. At their first meeting, each new member receives a copy of the chapter's calendar. Two special events that the chapter organizes for the new members are Presents and Initiation. Presents is a special event at which new members are formally presented as new members of Delta Gamma, and it includes the parents, families and friends of new members. Initiation is a private event for new members, members and alumnae of Delta Gamma, during which new members formally become members of Delta Gamma. For more information about the New Member Pursuit Program, please contact vice-president: member education or Member Education Adviser. |

| Q. Will my grades suffer while I am a new member or member of Delta Gamma?
A. College, as does the Greek experience, provides many wonderful social and leadership opportunities for young women. The Gamma Eta Chapter has a wonderful and comprehensive scholarship program that includes required study hours, study nights, study files, tutoring, a scholarship/study room, and requires members to maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Members who excel in their academics are awarded each semester by both the chapter and the Greek community at a Scholarship Banquet. The Order of Omega honor society (a national organization) exists for Greek organization members, and rewards fraternity and sorority men and women who excel in their academics. Delta Gamma encourages members to manage their time by inviting time management experts to the chapter to provide programs on time management. |

| Q. Does the Gamma Eta Chapter require members to live in the house?
A. The Gamma Eta Chapter is fortunate to have enough rooms for all members to reside in the chapter house, and thus requires all initiated members to live in the house. New members may also reside in the house prior to their initiation, but are not required to do so. With the increasing costs of rent in the San Jose/Bay Area, as well as the elimination of three SJSU residence halls, Delta Gamma provides a warm and affordable atmosphere for college women to reside. |
