OVERALL OPINION
Not the shippiest of all the episodes, a few minor compliments, a bit of angst, lots of interaction between them, no outright sexual tension or flirting, but the first scene is not to missed by any dedicated Sam & Jack romantic.
NOTABLE SCENES
1) That Worm Thing: The scene between Sam and Jack at the beginning of this episode is a rare gem. One of the few conversations between them which doesn't relate specifically to the action of the episode at hand. In hushed voices, as not to alert Lt. Simmons to the exchange (Jack doesn't want to appear ignorant in front of him).
Jack: Look, I know I should know this by now, and I swear it will be the last time I ask, but these worm holes we go through... they're not always there, right?
Sam: No sir, they can only form between two open gates.
Jack: What's with the worm part? The worm thing, I don't get that...
Sam: That's just a metaphor.
Jack: Alright, I know that.
Sam: Imagine the galaxy is an apple...we burrow our way through the apple like a worm, crossing from one side to the other instead of going around the outside.
Jack: Okay.
Sam: Now, of course, the diameter of the apple is just the two-dimensional representation of space time and, well, the hole isn't really a hole per se but an inter dimensional conduit... Colonel?
Jack: I'll be all right.
Sam: Okay...
Sam then gives Jack one of the most wonderful smiles. This is one of the sweetest scenes to date between Sam and Jack.
2) Pulling The Plug: Later on, when they can't get the worm hole to disengage, Jack suggests they "pull the plug" and shut down the power to the stargate. Jack and Sgt. Siler go to pull the main breakers, and a huge jolt of electricity hits Siler. Sam is listening on a headset and hears the explosion. She appears to be fairly agitated when Jack takes so long to answer her queries about his safety.
3) Memories: As Colonel Cromwell and Jack are waiting to set the auto destruct, Cromwell inquires after the video of Major Boyd and SG10. Jack responds by saying, "Henry Boyd - good officer, smart, reminds me of Carter a little bit." Just a minor compliment, but notable.
4) Way Smarter: After Sam discovers that blowing up the SGC will not stop the stargate from shutting down, she returns to the control room, and the auto destruct is aborted. Her new plan is for a shaped charge to be set at an exact distance and angle from the stargate, in order for the explosion to force the worm hole to jump to another gate, and thus save Earth. She explains this, and Colonel Cromwell quips to Jack:
Cromwell: Man, she is...
Jack: Way smarter than any of us... I know!
Cromwell then looks from Jack to Sam and back to Jack again, with a big grin on his face. As if he is thinking, are those two?
5) Look Out: As Jack and Cromwell are preparing to set the charge, the window in the booth breaks, causing Sam to dash to the edge and shout for Jack to watch out.
6) Two Weeks: At the end of the episode, as Jack awakens, Sam attempts (along with help from the others) to explain what happened. Sam and Jack share a look during this as if to say: 'we did it... we saved the day... again'.
