OVERALL OPINION While most of the shippiness in this episode wasn't terribly overt it did have that fantastic healing device scene which raises the quotient a bit.

NOTABLE SCENES

1) Promotion: In the opening scene, where Carter gets promoted to Major (that's my girl [g]), Jack looks absolutely thrilled. Just as General Hammond calls everyone to attention the camera cuts to Jack's face and it seems like he knows what is about to happen and can barely contain his pride. His little smile is priceless. After the General announces Carter's promotion Jack is positively beaming. Of course this may just be due to the thrill of having Sam finally get the recognition she deserves, but he seems to be gushing just a little too much for it to be simply professional pride. [g] And, although the "Normally I am a man of few words..." bit was hysterical I am sure I am not the only one who would have *loved* to hear what he was going to say about Sam.

2) Yu Who: During Daniel's info session Jack makes a "Yu" joke and once again Sam is the only one who laughs. It is becoming ever more apparent that Sam truly appreciates Jack's delicious sarcasm.

3) Oops: Just before the first negotiation meeting is about to commence Sam comes to wish Jack luck. Jack seems to take great pleasure in calling Sam "Major" throughout this ep. When he slips up and calls her Captain while they are standing outside the negotiation room his correction is pretty adorable. While the conversation that they have seems to me to be a bit (uncharacteristically) impersonal, it should be pointed out that Sam is the only one who comes to see him before the big moment. Also, it says a lot that Sam feels comfortable enough with their relationship that he is the first person she would confide in regarding her suspicion that Kronos was the one who sent the Ashrak to kill Jolinar.

5) She's Dead Right: When Sam and Jack are standing by Teal'c's bedside (next to each other of course [g]) they have a rather funny exchange about whether or not Hathor is really dead. When Jack turns to Sam for reassurance about Hathor's demise they have some meaningful and very extended eye contact. There seemed to be quite a bit of sharing going on there.

6) Going Freudian: My favorite scene in this ep (and the one I consider the most shippy) has got to be when Sam tries to use the Go'a'uld healing device to help Kronos. When at first her efforts fail, Jack confronts her about her Jolinar issues. All it takes is half a sentence and Sam knows exactly what he is getting at. From the way the whole exchange takes place, and both of their emotional reactions, it seems VERY clear that there is a lot of history here. There is no doubt that Sam has really confided in Jack about the Jolinar experience. When Sam tells him "I just have the memories of Jolinar, she doesn't control me" she gets pretty huffy and defensive about it. Jack's reply of "I'm just sayin' ", and the glance they give each other, all go to show that this is just one part of a much larger discussion that they have no doubt had many times before. And, although Sam may be acting like she doesn't want to hear it again, it is Jack's push that finally helps her to get the healing device working. Beautiful stuff.
