This episode picks up exactly where it left off in Jolinar's Memories. Apophis, having just revealed himself to still be alive, shares his plan to use his prisoners to regain his place among the System Lords. He wants to know where Teal'c is and, finding the communications device on Jackson, uses it to call the Jaffa and tell him that he has his friends and their fate will be pleasant compared to what he has in store for his former First Prime. O'Neill, Carter, Jackson, Jacob, and Martouf are all sent back to the pit; Apophis doesn't want them killed just yet. Martouf explains that Sokar must have revived Apophis after his dead body had been sent through the 'gate (Serpent's Song) and now his only chance at survival is to convince Sokar to let him live, perhaps with the knowledge of Earth and the Tok'ra now available to him.
On Delmak, the planet which Netu orbits, a guard informs Sokar that Teal'c's ship has escaped. The Goa'uld orders him to have the fleet ready in two days, instead of the ten days the plan originally called for; he can't be sure if the Tok'ra are aware of his scheme or not and must take action before the resistance is able to stop him.
Meanwhile, Apophis' new First Prime has searched the prisoners and finds the device which controls the memory amplifier; recognizing what it is, Apophis orders that Carter be brought to him. In the pit, O'Neill is shot in the leg by a staff weapon trying to prevent his major from being taken. Fortunately, the wound is cauterized.
In his quarters, Apophis finds the memory amplifier that is hidden behind Carter's ear and informs her that he will use it to get her to reveal all that he wants to know. She has a brief memory of sitting in her room, dressed for her mother's funeral and looking at pictures, then tells Apophis that the device doesn't work that way. He gives her a drink called the Blood of Sokar, which will cloud her mind. Now, Carter returns to the same memory, only she is in her thirties. Jacob enters and they talk about Carter's mother's death: Jacob was supposed to pick her up but he was late and so his wife took a cab and there was an accident. Carter's brother blames Jacob and Carter herself is a little bitter, claiming that the Air Force was always more important to him. Jacob tells her that he doesn't want her forgiveness; he says, "Just tell me one day we're gonna be okay." Then, things start to get strange. Carter starts reliving parts of the same memory out of sequence, and Jacob's plea in particular is repeated several times. It's at this point that Carter realizes that something is wrong, for she'd already forgiven her father long ago; if she hadn't, she would have gone on hating the Air Force, never would have joined the Stargate programme, and therefore Jacob would have died from cancer (Secrets.) Her father tells her that he is dying and that she's the only one who can save him, by telling him the iris code for the Stargate. Here, Carter realizes that Apophis is directing her memories and manages to break the control. He threatens to kill Jacob if she doesn't reveal to him the iris code.
Teal'c meets with a Tok'ra named Aldwin and plays for him the message sent by Apophis; the Jaffa wants their help in rescuing the people trapped on Netu. Aldwin agrees to relay his request to the Tok'ra High Council.
It's now O'Neill's turn to be taken to Apophis, and he too is forced to drink the Blood of Sokar and has the memory amplifier placed on him.
Back in the pit with the others, Carter learns that her father is getting worse. Martouf explains what the Blood of Sokar is: a powerful narcotic that causes realistic hallucinations. Carter warns Martouf not to let Apophis use Jolinar against him; after all, he must be angry about what she had to do to escape. She explains how real the whole experience is, until it all goes wrong.
O'Neill is remembering a moment with his son Charlie. O'Neill reprimands him for having a water gun when it's forbidden, and when his son starts to leave he implores him to stay and play catch. Here, the memory starts to go wrong: "Charlie" tells his father that he's remembering things differently, better. In real life, the young boy went to his room and shot himself two weeks later with O'Neill's own gun. The colonel realizes what he's doing but still wants to enjoy the moment. Charlie agrees to play catch on one condition: O'Neill must reveal the Asgard homeworld and the location of the world where he had the Ancients' language downloaded into his brain (The Fifth Race.) O'Neill refuses.
Aldwin returns with a weapon to see Teal'c; the High Council's plan is to launch the weapon through one of the many holes in Netu's surface that lead to the moon's core and blow the entire place when Sokar's ship is in orbit, thereby killing the System Lord. Teal'c pushes for a rescue attempt first, but Aldwin is not sure: Once Sokar is there, they will have little time to carry out their plan. Timing is critical, and this is war: the loss of a few lives is to be expected.
In Apophis' quarters, it's Martouf's turn to be subjected to questioning. Carter is brought in but to the Tok'ra's clouded mind he thinks he's seeing Jolinar. When "Jolinar" is threatened, Martouf reveals the name of the planet currently housing the Tok'ra: Entak.
On Delmak, Sokar's First Prime announces that the fleet is ready. Since Bynarr has not reported in as he was supposed to, Sokar decides to take his ship to Netu and then launch the attack.
Returned to the others (except for Jackson, who has been taken to Apophis), Martouf tells Carter that he knew it was her and not Jolinar. He lied about the Tok'ra being based on Entak: in fact, it's a primitive world and no Tok'ra live there.
Jackson has a flashback about a moment after Shau'ri's death; he's going through some of his wife's things when O'Neill enters, wanting to know where the Harsesis child is. The archaeologist is confused, because he'd thought that O'Neill didn't believe that a child could carry the knowledge of the Goa'uld, and manages to resist because he knows that this is not real. At this point Apophis is interrupted by a message from Sokar, who wants to know why Bynarr hasn't reported in as ordered. Apophis identifies himself and when Sokar threatens to blow up Netu he barters for his life by promising information gathered from the humans and Tok'ra. Sokar agrees to meet with him. Jackson then attacks his guard, managing to get the communication device back without the other man realizing it.
Apophis reveals his plan to his First Prime: he will get close enough to Sokar to kill him with the sword-like weapon he has hidden in his sleeve and take over "the devil's" fleet himself. When Apophis is transported aboard Sokar's ship, Teal'c, who has recently arrived back at Netu, witnesses the beam.
Jackson is taken back to the pit, where Carter calls Teal'c with the communication device. The Jaffa orders Aldwin to wait but the Tok'ra sends the bomb; the people trapped on the moon now have twelve minutes to escape before it explodes. Luckily, Carter has an idea.On Sokar's ship, Apophis reveals the location of the Tok'ra resistance as an
example of how valuable he could be, but Sokar is not impressed: he has just recently conquered Entak, and there are no Tok'ra on that planet. Sokar orders Apophis to be executed. Slowly.
On the tel'tak, Teal'c refuses to leave and locks Aldwin out of the cockpit.
In the pit, Carter, Jackson, and Martouf stuff rocks into an air vent; once the pressure is great enough the rocks are blown upwards, displacing the gate that blocks their way out. The prisoners are now able to leave. As they make their way to the transportation ring, they tell Teal'c to be ready for them: he must be perfectly stopped in a direct line between Netu and Sokar's ship or else they will all be killed.
On the ship, a guard interrupts Apophis' torture to report that the "hell fires of Netu are erupting," and Apophis uses the distraction to kill his guard and escape.
This time, Martouf is able to successfully activate the transportation rings and they are intercepted by Teal'c; the tel'tak immediately takes off as Netu explodes, destroying Sokar's ship in the process. Safely on the way home, Aldwin apologizes to Teal'c for not being willing to attempt the rescue while Carter and Jacob discuss taking a father-daughter vacation - he hears that Alaska is cold this time of year.
On Delmak, Netu is clearly visible in the sky as it burns. Watching the scene is Apophis, who has managed to escape the explosion.
