My Take

I liked seeing a bit of Sam's past.  It's good to know that she had a life, makes her more real.  I would have liked it more if they'd delved a little deeper into this relationship.  Perhaps they should have introduced Hanson in a previous episode.  That way could have seen more of the character before he lost it.

Favourite Parts/Quotes

* When they leave the 'gate to find Hanson

Jack- We're off to see the Wizard.

Jack- To Oz.

* Sitting around the camp fire

Daniel- This tastes like chicken
Sam- What's wrong with it?
Daniel- It's macaroni and cheese

* Teal'c sets up the perimeter alarm and throws a rock to test it.

Teal'c- The perimeter is established.
Jack- Perfect!  Any little rocks sneak up on us, we'll have plenty of warning.

* Jack wakes Daniel up when the camp comes under attack.

Jack- We've got company.
Daniel- Are you sure?
Jack- (dart just misses Daniel's head) Pretty sure.

* The next day, Daniel and Sam are talking while they walk.

Daniel- They were probably just instructed to just take Conner, send us a message that Hanson's in control.
Sam- Sounds familiar
Daniel- Which part?
Sam- He likes control.
Daniel- Well, what did you see in him?
Sam- I don't know.  I guess I've always had a soft spot for the lunatic fringe.  He was... he was charming.
Daniel- Well, that's good, charming is good.

* Sam punches one of Hanson's men.

Sam- Well, that was refreshing.

* Jack, Daniel and Teal'c talk to the native, Jamala.

Daniel- Smile, look friendly.
(Teal'c tries, rather unsuccessfully, to smile)
Jack- You're gonna have to work on that a little bit.

* Jack goes to rescue Conner.

Conner- Kill me.
Jack- You sure?  I've come all this way.

* Jack and Conner are caught leaving the camp.

Jack- Hey!  How ya doin'?  You know, we'd love to stick around, but some brain dead sychophant left my buddy out here to die.  So, we're out of here.  (Gets punched) Ow.

* Jack's led into the cave where Hanson and Sam are.

Jack- Captain.  I see everything's turned out *just* as we'd planned.

* Jonas opens the 'gate and orders his men to send Jack and Conner through.

Sam- You said you wouldn't kill them.
Jonas- I'm not.  I'm sending them back to Earth.
Sam- Without the iris code, they'll die.
Jonas- Please, Sam.  I'm having a moment here.

* Final scene, where Jack tries to comfort Sam.

Jack- (holding bible) Look, I'm no expert on this thing, but I generally remember one commandment, and I think it's the first.
Sam- I am the Lord your God and you shall take no other Gods before me?
Jack- Okay, it's not the first one.  I'm talking about the no killing one.

Notable Shippiness

Not much shippiness in this episode.  I found it interesting that Jack knew that Sam had been engaged to Hanson before they got there.  They must have discussed it to some point, and I'd love to have seen that.  Jack didn't look terribly worried when Hanson's men captured Sam, but he was visibly upset when Hanson hit her.  Likewise, Sam had tears in her eyes when she thought Jack was going to be sent through the 'gate to his death.  Jack was really sweet in the last scene.  It's a side of him I hope we see more of.  He tried so hard to get her to stop feeling guilty.

How It Could Have Been Shippier

* Sam telling Jack and the team that she had been engaged to Hanson.  I think it would have produced some great banter between them.

* Jonas showing some affection toward Sam in front of Jack.  Even though this episode is very early in the season, I still think Jack would have been a bit irked.
