Jack goes to General Hammond’s office where he is informed that Teal’c will not be allowed to join SG-1. Instead he is to be examined and tested by Colonel Kennedy of the Pentagon. Jack goes to see Teal’c, who is being held as a prisoner. Teal’c swears to prove his allegiance to earth and Jack promises that, when he does, he’ll show him around earth.
Back in the infirmary, Kowalsky is getting checked out by a doctor. Whilst examining hi, the doctor finds a mark on the back of his neck and then something slithers up his back, under the skin. His eyes glow, showing that he is a Goa’uld, and he kills the doctor. He is then found in the ‘gate room where he is back to normal and doesn’t remember what happened.
Teal’c is questioned by the Pentagon. Whilst telling the what he know of the Goa’uld and their slaves it is discovered that the galaxy is populated with people who originated from Earth. Teal’c believes that the people of Earth are the greatest chance the galaxy has of destroying the Goa’uld.
Meanwhile, Daniel talks to Sam about Shar’e and admits he hasn’t been sleeping. She persuades him to get some rest but when he goes to his bunk he discovers the dead doctor. Whilst this is happening, Dr Warner does an MRI on Kowalsky and discovers he is infected with a Goa’uld. The Goa’uld takes over again and Kowalsky heads to the control room, where he starts to dial out. Sam tries to stop him and he takes her hostage. Once in the elevator, Sam tries to reason with the Goa’uld before pushing the emergency stop button, being knocked out in the process. When Jack and the others get the doors open, Kowalsky is back again and has no recollection of what happened. They plan to remove the parasite but Dr Warner informs them that it has wrapped itself around Kowalsky’s spinal chord and there is a large risk of paralysis or death.
Hammond, Kennedy and Jack go to Teal’c to ensure he is still carrying his symbiote. Teal’c tells them that the Goa’uld is capable of killing it’s host and that it will make demands. They go to the infirmary and talk it. The Goa’uld demands they send it back through the ‘gate and refuses to leave Charlie’s body.
General Hammond calls a meeting and Kennedy suggests that they not remove the parasite, instead allowing it to live in Kowalsky so they can study it. Hammond tells him that while there’s a chance they can save Kowalsky they will try. Dr Warner operates and removes the parasite, but leaves some behind. When Kowalsky wakes up they discover he wasn’t paralysed and appears to be okay.
Kennedy receives permission to take Teal’c for study and Kowalsky asks to see him before he leaves. Once alone with Teal’c, the Goa’uld takes over again and tries to kill hi before trying to escape through the ‘gate to Chu’lak. Teal’ confronts him on the ‘gate ramp and they fight. Jack gets Teal’c to hold Kowalsky’s head in the wormhole and then orders it to be closed down, thus killing both Kowalsky and the Goa’uld.
Hammond gets in contact with the President who authorises Teal’c to join SG-1 and the episode ends with them going through the Stargate on their first mission as the new SG-1.
Jack- Well there’s gotta be worse ways to go I suppose.
Daniel- You don’t think the Goa’ulds are sending people
through, do you?
Jack- (shrugs) It’d be like bugs on a windshield.
Daniel- So this iris is gunna hold right?
Sam- It’s pure titanium, less than 3 micrometers from
the event horizon. It won’t even let matter reintegrate.
Jack- So this iris is gunna hold right?
Sam- If it doesn’t, the fail-safe device will detonate,
this whole mountain will vaporise and there’ll be nothing to worry about.
Jack- Ah good. I feel much better.
* When Jack and Teal’c are talking in the holding room.
Teal’c- If I had killed you then, I would not be here
now.
Jack- Neither would I.
* When Teal’c is being questioned by the Pentagon.
Jack- Permission to barge in sir?
* When Jack and Kowalsky talk before his operation.
Jack- Listen... um, I gotta ask you somethin’. It’s not
easy for me.
Kowalsky- We’re friends
Jack- If you don’t make it... can I have you stereo?
* When Kowalsky wakes up.
Jack- That’s right Dorothy, it was all a dream.
Jack- Easy big fella. You’re not drinking for two now.
