Sam sighed as she walked into Janet’s office. “Hey Janet” she said, somewhat dejectedly.
“Hey, I heard you were back. Have a good mission?” She asked as Sam sat down opposite her. “Where are the guys?”
“Oh they were nice enough to let me clean up first for a change.”
Janet looked at her friend closely. She looked kind of depressed. “Is everything alright?”
Sam sighed and shook her head. “I think I did something I shouldn’t have.”
“What?” Janet asked, intrigued.
“Colonel O’Neill and I... well we...” She blushed.
“You didn’t?!”
Sam nodded. “Ah huh. I didn’t mean it to happen. It just... did.”
“So what’s the problem? I thought that’s what you wanted? He didn’t tell you it was a mistake did he?”
“No, nothing like that. It’s just... it wasn’t like how I imagined it would be.”
“What do you mean?”
Sam shrugged. “It was sex. It wasn’t even *good* sex.”
Janet’s eyes went wide at this revelation. “Did you... climax?”
She shook her head in the negative. “He wanted to... fix it after but I was just too... I don’t know embarrassed I guess.” She groaned, burying her face in her hands. “God, what have I done?”
“You had sex with a guy that you’re attracted to. So it wasn’t as good as you’d hoped. You know what they say, practice makes perfect.” She flashed Sam a grin.
“Janet! You’re not helping. Maybe we’re just not supposed to be together.”
“Sam you don’t believe that for a second. You were the one who said that maybe you were soul mates. I mean two alternate realities?”
“I know but... oh I don’t know. We’ve been spending so much of our down time together and it’s been great. It’s almost like we’ve been dating, but if we’re not compatible in that way... what’s the point?”
Janet pulled a chair up in front of Sam. “Look Sam there are lot’s of reasons for bad sex. I mean when was the last time you did it?”
Sam flushed. “A few years.”
“Exactly. And god knows how long it’s been for him.”
“Only a few months” Sam said quietly.
Janet looked confused for a moment before she remembered Adorra. “Oh yeah I forgot about that.”
“I didn’t. Just like I didn’t forget that it’s against regulations and we could be court-martialled ... and just like I didn’t forget the last time I was in a serious relationship was with Jonas before he...”
“God Sam, no wonder you didn’t enjoy yourself. How could you concentrate on making love when you’ve got all of that whizzing around in your brain?”
“I know, I think too much. I can’t help it.”
Janet gave Sam’s knee a reassuring squeeze. “You know what you need to do?”
“What?”
“Talk to the guy. Tell him your fears.” She smiled. “And when it comes to sex don’t be afraid to tell him what you want, us gal’s are a lot harder to satisfy then they are.”
“You’re right, but how am I gunna face him? I’m so embarrassed.”
“Too embarrassed to tell the man you care about what’s bothering you? Try Sam. You two could have something so special.”
Sam nodded, knowing that Janet was right. “Can we get this physical over with? I just wanna go home so I can think.”
“Sure” Janet replied with a smile and led her out to a cubicle.
In the locker room Jack was just getting dressed when Daniel walked over to him. After looking around to make sure that no one else was around Daniel spoke. “Jack? Is everything alright with you and Sam?”
“What do you mean Danny?” Jack asked, not meeting the other man’s gaze.
“I mean that ever since last night things have seemed strained between you two. Come on Jack what’s going on? Did you two have a fight?”
“No nothing like that.” Jack sighed. He really needed to talk about this. “Promise you won’t get all embarrassed or start yelling?”
“I promise. Now what’s going on?”
“Well, when I went to find Sam last night, we um... we ended up having sex” he finished quickly.
“You what?!” Daniel almost yelled, turning beet red.
“Now see, you’re doing the two things you promised you wouldn’t do.”
“Sorry. So... what happened... ah I mean why were things so strained. Did she tell you it was a mistake?”
“No. Well not in so many words. She just... she didn’t enjoy it like she should have.”
“What do you mean Jack?” Daniel had by now recovered from his embarrassment, sensing that Jack really needed to talk to someone.
“Well at first we were all over each other, but then when we... got going, it was like she was distracted or something... I don’t know. By that time I wasn’t exactly in the position to stop and talk.” He hung his head. “I didn’t even satisfy her. Then afterwards she wouldn’t even talk to me. She just got dressed and started walking back. I tried to apologise and get her to talk but she just said that it was okay and walked back to camp.” He sighed and sat on the bench. “I always thought that if we did it, it would be the most amazing thing. I really thought we belonged together.”
Daniel sat down next to his friend. “Jack just because you guys had one not-so-good experience doesn’t mean you throw away all your hopes. You’ve gotta talk to her, ask her what’s wrong.” He got up and walked over to his locker. “And I’m no expert but I think you need to pick a more romantic spot than in the middle of a forest, on another planet, during a mission, at least until you get more familiar with each other. It needs to be somewhere that you can relax and take your time with each other. It’s not like in the movies Jack. You don’t automatically know how to turn each other on.”
Jack nodded. “You’re right Daniel, thanks.” He laughed as he rose from the bench. “Who would have thought I’d be getting advice about sex from you.”
“Hey!” Daniel said, indignantly. “I’m not as naive as you guys think!”
“I know Daniel” Jack replied with a pat on his friends back. “But you do blush very easily.” He walked out of the locker room chuckling.
When the guys got to the infirmary, Janet was just finishing up with Teal’c and Sam was nowhere to be seen. “Why is it that Teal’c can be showered and down here in five minutes, but you guys seem to take all day?” Janet asked as they moved to their beds.
“We’re just trying to look our best for you Doc” Jack said with a grin.
“Well I guess I should be flattered then Colonel.” She turned to Teal’c. “You’re fine Teal’c. You can go now.”
Teal’c bowed his head. “Thankyou Doctor Fraiser. I shall be in my quarters if I am needed.”
Janet moved over to where Jack was sitting, fiddling with her stethoscope. She took it off him and proceeded to give him his check up. “So Colonel. Did anything happen on this mission that wouldn’t normally occur?”
Jack looked at her closely, sensing this was a trick question. “Did Sam tell you?”
She gave him a small smile. “Yeah, she told me. What are you going to do to fix it?”
Jack grinned at Daniel. “I’m gunna talk to her and then if that turns out good I’m gunna take her to Denver for the most romantic weekend she’s ever had.” He sounded so sure of himself, a lot surer than he felt.
Janet looked surprised. That wasn’t the answer she’d expected. “Wow.”
“What? Don’t you think I’m capable of romantic? I really like her Doc.”
This time Janet smiled wider. “I know you do and she really likes you. Just tread carefully.”
Jack nodded. “You don’t have to worry. I really didn’t mean for things to go that far. I didn’t want to push her. Why do you think we’ve been spending so much downtime together? I just wanted us to get to know each other.” He could tell he’d surprised her. He wasn’t exactly known for speaking from the heart, but this was important to him and he knew that if Janet knew the truth she would help him make Sam see. “Where is she anyway?”
“She went home about ten minutes ago. I was supposed to go and see her later but perhaps...”
Jack grinned and jumped off the bed. “Thanks Doc, you’re the best!”
Both Janet and Daniel watched as he raced out the door before turning to look at each other. “I hope they can work things out” Daniel said.
“Yeah. They deserve to be happy. I just hope he doesn’t push her.”
“I think he loves her Janet, and I don’t think he’d hurt her.”
Janet nodded, sending a silent prayer to whoever was listening that her friends would find happiness with each other.
Sam had gone home and taken a hot bath before curling up on the sofa with a glass of wine. She thought about what had happened on the planet and what Janet had said. She knew she wanted to be with Jack but she was scared. Plain and simple. That was a difficult thing to admit, even to herself but if she wanted to be with him then she would have to admit it to him. The one thing she never wanted to show him.
There was a knock at the door and she rose to answer it, assuming it would be Janet. She opened the door and there was Jack O’Neill, looking as nervous as hell.
“Hi” he said quietly, unsure whether she’d speak to him.
“Hi” she returned just as quietly.
“Do you think that we could talk?”
“Yeah.” She stood back and let him in, shutting the door behind him. “Would you like a drink?” She asked politely.
“Have you got any beer?”
“Yeah. Take a seat, I’ll be back in a minute.”
She returned with his beer and picked up her glass of wine, moving to sit on one of the overstuffed chairs. They sat there in an awkward silence for a few minutes before Jack finally spoke. “I’m sorry about what happened on that planet Sam.”
“Sorry that it happened?” She asked quietly, not looking at him.
“No!” He almost shouted. He took a deep breath before continuing. “I wanted that to happen, I have for a long time but... I shouldn’t have pushed you. I should have waited.”
“You didn’t push me. I wanted it just as much as you but...” She paused, trying to get the courage to tell him the truth.
“Tell me Sam. You can trust me.”
The compassion and warmth in his voice gave her the strength to be honest with him. “I’m scared” she admitted.
“Of what?” Jack asked, wanting nothing more than to wrap her in his arms and make everything better. He knew however, she needed her space if she was going to explain so he stayed where he was.
She gave a little snort. “God, where do I start? I’m scared of being court-martialled, of losing everything that I’ve worked so hard for.”
“Sam, you know we can work around the regs as long as we’re careful. Besides, do you really think that Hammond would turn us in? He’s a closet romantic.”
Sam couldn’t help but grin. “I’m being serious!”
Jack sobered again. “I know you are, and I understand what you’re saying, but I just think that it’s worth the risk. I think *you’re* worth the risk.”
Sam nodded, conceding the point. “And I’m scared of you leaving me.”
“Sam...”
“No, listen. It was hard enough for me when you were stuck on Adorra... and when you came back...”
“Sam I apologised for that. I thought we’d moved passed it.”
“We did Jack but what’s to stop it happening again? It was hard enough when we were just friends, I don’t think I could handle it if we were more.”
Jack moved over and knelt in front of her, grasping both her hands. “That won’t happen. I was stupid to think that you wouldn’t keep trying to get me home. I should have had more faith in you. Trust me when I say that’ll never happen again.” He could see that she’d accepted his explanation but there was something else. Something that was worrying her more than anything she’d already mentioned.
He pulled her to her feet and led her over to sit on the sofa beside him. “Tell me what’s really worrying you Sam.”
“I... the last real relationship I had was with Jonas.”
“Okay...” Jack prompted, not really having any idea where this was leading.
“Well Jonas was the first person who’d really loved me. I mean I’d had relationships before but he just seemed to worship me. Then things started to change. He was still charming and exciting and loving a lot of the time but he started to criticise things I did. I tried to please him, I loved him, but then he hit me. He apologised for it but then it happened again and I left him. I’m... scared of getting close to someone again. It just seems safer to be alone.”
Jack gently cupped Sam’s face, making her look at him. “Sam. I will *never* *ever* put you through that kind of pain. I may be a sarcastic old bastard, but I swear to you now that I will do everything in my power to make you happy.”
The words struck her heart and tears formed in her eyes. “You’re not old” she said with a watery smile.
He chuckled and pulled her into a fierce hug. Pulling back to look into each other’s eyes, they moved into a soft kiss which quickly turned deep.
Just as Sam’s hand moved under his shirt, Jack pulled back. “Wait Sam” he said breathlessly.
Sam looked up surprised, and perhaps a touch hurt. “What?”
“I want this to be perfect. Come away with me. I’ve booked a room at a nice hotel in Denver. If we leave now we can be there by eight. Have a nice romantic dinner and if you still want to take this further we’ll have all the time in the world and no interruptions. We can spend the whole weekend together. Just you and me.”
Sam blinked the tears away that had suddenly welled in her eyes. He could have had her right here, right now but he was willing to wait and romance her first. That, more than anything he had said, pushed all the doubts out of her mind. This man was nothing like Jonas. Jonas had never showed any restraint while they were together. Wherever they happened to be when he got horny was where they did it and, although spontaneity could be a wonderful thing, against the wall in a dirty ally behind a club was not her idea of a turn on. She shook the dark memory from her mind and gave Jack a blinding smile. “Just let me pack some clothes.” She gave him a final kiss before getting up and heading to her bedroom.
Jack sat back and sighed with relief. He really hadn’t been sure how this would turn out. He’d hoped that this was what would happen, booking the hotel and packing some clothes just in case, but he had never felt more uncertain then when he’d walked up the stairs to her apartment. It had been very difficult for him to stop them from making love right there on the couch but he cared about her too much to ruin it again. He knew Sam had not enjoyed herself on that planet and as a result he hadn’t really either. Daniel was right, he had to take his time with her, learn what she liked. Only then could they make love like he’d dreamed of.
Sam walked back out carrying her overnight bag. She’d quickly gotten changed out of her sweats, putting on a long black skirt and red shirt with her leather jacket over the top. She’d applied a little makeup and done her hair and the effect was subtle but stunning.
“Wow” Jack breathed when he spotted her. “You’re really testing my restraint tonight aren’t you?”
Sam gave a delighted giggle at his compliment and held out her hand. “How ‘bout we get going then?” She grabbed her keys and they made their way out of the apartment to Jack’s Jeep. He unlocked the passenger side door and opened it for her, being rewarded with another patented Sam grin.
They drove Denver amidst light conversation and laughter, neither wanting to bring up anything serious while they were driving and both getting more nervous the closer they got. At close to eight o’clock Jack pulled up outside the hotel. “Here we are.”
Sam gasped. “Brown Palace? Jack this is too expensive. You shouldn’t have done this.” Jack grinned at her as her door was opened by the valet and he helped her out.
Jack got their bags out and handed the keys to the guy before walking up to Sam. He placed the bags down and took both her hands in his. “Sam I thought we needed to go somewhere neutral, not your place and not mine. The only place I could think of was a hotel and then of course I was worried about it being a hotel, so I thought if it was a flash hotel it would feel less like a... hotel.” His brows knitted together as he tried to make sense of what he’d just said.
Sam squeezed his hands. “I know what you mean Jack. You didn’t want it to be the old cliched ‘let’s go to a hotel and screw’ and I really appreciate that... everything you’re doing.” She leaned forward and gave him a soft kiss.
He grinned, pinching her chin before bending to pick up the bags. “Come on. Let’s go and check in and then we can do something about dinner.”
They walked into the lobby and Sam gasped. It must have been about nine stories high with a stained-glass ceiling. It was amazing. Jack grinned at her reaction, admitting to himself that it was really nice. They walked over to the reception desk and were soon checked in and heading to the fourteenth floor.
“Here we go” the bellhop said as the doors to the lift opened. He picked up their bags and led them to their room, opening the door and placing their bags inside.
Jack tipped him and then they were alone. Sam was walking around, checking everything out. It was a large room with a distinct Victorian flair. She walked into the bathroom and saw a large bath, easily big enough for two. There were two large fluffy bathrobes hanging next to the door. She heard Jack say something and walked back out to see him checking out the entertainment system. “It’s even got Nintendo!” He exclaimed excitedly.
Sam couldn’t help but grin. “Well if you’d rather stay here and play games, I could always...”
He stopped her with a kiss. “I don’t think so. Let’s go and have some dinner.” He ushered her out the door before she could say anything else.
Dinner was excellent and the company was better. They went down to the hotel’s restaurant and had an expensive, but delicious three course meal accompanied by a nice bottle of white wine. Following dinner, and a couple of drinks in the bar, they made their way back to the lift and headed for their room.
As they neared the door Jack could sense Sam’s nervousness. He let them in and then led her over to the bed. Kicking off his shoes he pulled her onto the bed and turned the TV on. “I wonder if there’s any good movies on” he said as he flicked the channels. He felt Sam watching him and turned to look at her. “What?” He asked with a grin.
“Nothing. I just... ah...” She stuttered, blushing slightly.
Jack placed a hand on her cheek, stroking the soft flesh. “We’ve got all weekend Sam. We don’t have to rush.” He saw the relief flood her eyes, quickly followed by something else which he couldn’t quite name. “Now what do you want to watch?” They settled on ‘The Sixth Sense’, even though they’d both seen it before, and curled up on the bed in each other’s arms.
About twenty minutes into the movie Sam’s mind started to drift to the man laying next to her. She had been so nervous when they’d gotten back from dinner, sure that Jack was expecting them to make love as soon as they got in the door. It wasn’t like she didn’t want to, she wouldn’t have gone if that were the case, but after their not-so-good experience on that planet Sam was scared of it happening again and she wasn’t sure what would happen to them if it did. ‘You just have to relax’ her mind supplied. ‘He’s not going to hurt you and he’s not going to rush you.’
Tentatively, and without looking at him, Sam’s fingers started to stroke where they laid on his stomach. When she received no response, she moved them to where his shirt was buttoned, slipping them in-between the two pieces of material to stroke his flesh. Jack shivered slightly, but he kept his eyes on the TV even though his mind was fixed on her exploring fingers.
When he didn’t react she turned her head on his shoulder to look at him. His eyes were fixed on the screen but there was a small smile on his face. She felt his fingers move on her back then, gently stroking their way down to the hem of her shirt. When they reached it, they stopped briefly before travelling up under the material. Sam sighed at the contact and rolled onto her side more so she could see what she was doing. Their eyes met and they smiled softly at each other before moving into a slow but deep kiss.
As the kiss continued, Sam blindly unbuttoned Jack’s shirt, pushing it out of the way so she could caress his lightly haired chest. She reluctantly pulled back as Jack tugged at her shirt, allowing him to pull it over head. They continued to undress each other, taking their time as they continued to kiss and stroke the newly revealed flesh.
Jack slowly kissed and caressed her whole body, learning where her pleasure spots were and what she liked and didn’t like. ‘Definitely prefers it soft and teasing’ he thought as he placed butterfly kisses on her abdomen. ‘Oooh and she likes me sticking my tongue in her navel’. He committed all he learnt to memory before going to the one place he had avoided. “You really are a blonde” he stated as he placed a kiss to the patch of sandy coloured hair. He could smell her arousal and he thought it was the most delectable scent ever.
“What’d you expect? A red head?” She asked in return.
He parted her lips as he chuckled and his breath washed over her heat, making her gasp. “Oooh like that do you?” He whispered against her and Sam was sure she was going to orgasm on the spot. “Soft or hard?” He asked as he ran a finger over her swollen clitoris.
“Mmm... soft” she moaned in reply, her hips bucking off the bed as Jack used the very tip of his tongue to caress and taste her. “Oh God Jack!” She cried as his continued ministrations brought her to the most amazing climax.
Jack moved back up her body as Sam tried to regain her senses.
“Wow” she panted, moving to give him an earth shattering kiss. She rolled them until he was underneath her and then pulled back, giving him a mischievous grin.
“Uh oh” Jack chuckled as he saw the predatory glint in her eyes. “Why do I feel like I’m about to be attacked?”
“I wouldn’t attack you” she replied innocently. “I do believe however, that it’s my turn to find out exactly what turns *you* on.”
In her explorations she discovered he really liked teeth and nails. She ran her nails up the insides of his thighs and nibbled his stomach, enjoying the moans she was causing. Finally taking pity on him, she turned her attentions to his hardness, running her tongue from base to head before taking him in her mouth. It wasn’t long before he had to pull her away, or things would end far too quickly.
As they settled next to each other, Jack ran his hand up and down Sam’s bare back, looking deep into her blue eyes. “You sure about this?”
She was touched that even though they’d come this far, he was still willing to stop for her. “You stop now, you’re a dead man” she replied as she pulled him over her.
“Yes ma’am” he replied with a chuckle. “Just let me get a rubber.”
“You don’t need one Jack” she told him, wrapping her legs around his so he couldn’t escape.
“You sure?”
“I’m on the pill and we get tested for everything under the sun after every mission so I don’t think that’s a problem.”
He nodded and positioned himself between her legs, guiding himself inside her as he watched the emotions play over her face. It was at that moment that he realised she wanted this as much as him. He stayed still for a moment, allowing her to adjust to his size before he began slowly thrusting. As Sam started to match his thrusts Jack’s need took over and he increased the pace, striving to find release.
Sam started to feel a little left behind and knew if they kept this pace he was going to peak before her. She remembered what Janet had said, just tell him what you want. “Just slow down for a minute Jack” she panted in his ear.
With great difficulty he slowed down and pulled back slightly to look at her. “You okay?”
She nodded. “Just wanted to catch up” she replied with a smile. The smile turned into a gasp as he moved his hand between them and ran a finger over her clit. “I said catch up not overtake” she moaned as he repeated the stroke.
Jack chuckled and returned his hands to lie on either side of Sam’s head. He pulled almost fully out of her before thrusting back in. He continued the same slow, deep strokes and could feel her begin to tighten around him. Then suddenly she climaxed, crying out as her inner muscles contracted around him. It was enough to send him over and he moaned into her neck as he pumped his hot seed deep within her.
As they both calmed down, Jack pulled himself up slightly so he could look at her. One look at her face told him that she hadn’t regretted anything they’d just done. She was glowing, her eyes sparkling and her face flushed. She gave him a soft smile and he leant down to kiss her gently.
When Jack pulled back Sam had tears in her eyes. “Hey. What’s wrong?” He asked, concerned.
She shook her head. “Nothing’s wrong. Everything’s perfect. I have *never* felt as special as you’ve made me feel tonight.” She kissed him again. “Thank you.”
“You *are* special Sam. Don’t ever think differently. You’re the most amazing woman I know.” He took a deep breath and dared to say the words that were on the tip of his tongue. “I think I’m falling in love with you” he almost whispered.
That made Sam cry harder and for a moment Jack thought he’d said the wrong thing. That was until she spoke. “I’m falling in love with you too Jack” she replied, reaching up to pull him in a ferocious kiss.
They pulled back, breathless and just looked into each other’s eyes. Jack could see Sam’s eyes start to darken as she felt him harden and lengthen inside her. He kissed her again and rolled so she was on top. Sam sat up and grinned, raising herself slightly before lowering herself on him again, taking him deeper than before.
Jack moaned. “We keep this up and I won’t be able to walk tomorrow” he quipped.
“Well then, I guess we’ll just have to stay in bed” Sam replied before capturing his lips. Those were the last words spoken for quite some time as they continued to learn more about each other.

Girl relax, let’s go slow
I ain’t got nowhere to go
I’m just gunna concentrate on you
Girl are you ready, it’s gonna be a long night
Throw your clothes on the floor
I’m gonna take my clothes off too
I made plans to be with you
Girl whatever you ask me, you know I’ll do
I’ll make love to you
Like you want me to
And I’ll hold you tight
Baby all through the night
I’ll make love to you
When you want me to
And I will not let go
‘Til you tell me to.
