Sam walked along the corridor towards Teal’c’s quarters. She was curious as to why he had asked her there so late at night. Reaching her destination, she knocked tentatively on the door. Teal’c opened it after a moment, bowing his head in greeting. “Good evening, Major Carter.”
“Hey, Teal’c. What did you want to see me about?”
He stepped back to allow her entry. The lights were off in his room, the only light coming from the dozens of candles that were burning. “I must go for a few moments, Major Carter. I shall return shortly. Please make yourself comfortable.” He nodded to her before quickly walking out the door, closing it quietly behind him.
Sam stared at the door for a moment. Teal’c’s behaviour often confused her, but that was definitely weirder than normal. She went to turn the lights on, but her hand stopped before reaching the switch. The candles totally transformed the normally drab grey room, giving it an almost romantic atmosphere. It was certainly a nice change. Moving further into the room, she stepped over the pad that Teal’c meditated on and sat on the bed. Something fluttered across her fingers and she picked it up, moving it closer to her face so she could see it in the dull light. Her breath caught in her throat when she saw what she was holding. A rose petal. Looking at the bed, she noticed that it was covered in them.
Her heart thumping in her chest, Sam examined the rest of the room. On the far table, she saw what looked suspiciously like a bottle of wine and two glasses. “Oh my god,” she breathed as realisation dawned. Candles, rose petals, wine, the romantic atmosphere. She gasped, not knowing what to do. Sure, Teal’c was a very handsome man, and she’d be lying if she said she’d never thought about what he would be like as a lover. She was female and alive after all, and such a powerful, passionate man would surely be amazing in bed. But thinking about it and actually doing it were two completely different things. There was only one man on base that she wanted to make love to. It wasn’t Teal’c.
She jumped from the bed as the door opened. “Teal’c, I...” she began, only to lose her voice as she saw who was standing in the doorway.
“Carter? What are you doin’ in here?” Jack asked. He looked around the room and his eyes widened. “You and... I’m sorry to disturb you,” he told her, head bowed as his stomach churned. After everything that had happened between them, he couldn’t believe that she was seeing one of his best friends. Talk about the ultimate betrayal.
“Colonel! It’s not what you think!” Sam told him, praying he believed her.
“You don’t have to explain to me, Carter. As long as he makes you happy.”
He turned to leave, bumping straight into Teal’c. “Is this what you wanted me for, Teal’c? Show me what you and Carter get up to after hours?” He couldn’t stop the bitterness from creeping into his voice.
Teal’c raised an eyebrow. “Major Carter and myself are not in a relationship, O’Neill. I have asked you both here tonight because I believe your reluctance to face the feelings between you will become detrimental to SG-1. You shall remain in this room until morning and I expect you both to have resolved the problem by then.” He looked at Jack, speaking low so that Sam couldn’t hear him. “There are measures of contraception in the top drawer by the bed. I suggest you use them if you do not wish Major Carter to conceive a child.”
It was only when Teal’c had closed the door, that Jack was able to close his mouth, and he sprang to life. “Teal’c! Don’t you dare lock the... door,” he finished, hearing the audible click. He wasn’t sure if he dared to turn around and look at Sam. He’d just accused her of having a relationship with one of their closest friends. He knew she’d be either angry or hurt. He was therefore surprised when he turned to see Sam reaching for the bottle of wine that was sitting on the table. “Carter?” He asked.
“Yes, sir?”
“Whatcha doin’?”
She shrugged. “You heard the guy, we’re stuck in here until morning. I’d hate for this to go to waste.” She poured some into a glass and offered it to Jack. “Do you want some?”
He shook his head in frustration. “No! I want to get out of here!”
Sam didn’t seem too concerned. “Suit yourself. More for me.”
Jack continued to bang on the door for a few minutes, cursing the Jaffa that was responsible for testing both his patience and his self control. He finally gave up, realising that nobody was going to let them out. He turned away from the door, and was about to flick on the lights, when his breath caught in his throat. Sam had taken her boots off and was sitting back on the bed, resting up against the bed-head and sipping on her glass of wine as she stared into the candles. The light flickered across her face and turned her hair a deep gold. It was the most beautiful image he had ever seen.
‘Maybe I do need a drink,’ he thought, shaking out of his stupor. Pouring some wine into the other glass, he looked around for the chair that he knew was normally in Teal’c’s quarters. He had to smile when he noticed it wasn’t in there. The big guy had certainly thought of everything. He knew he had only two options. He could risk sitting on a bed with his major, or he could sit on the cold concrete floor. It was a tough decision, both seemed dangerous to his health at that moment. Deciding that death by Sam’s hand was preferable to a frost-bitten butt, he walked over to the bed. “Shove over,” he told her, placing the bottle of wine on top of the drawers beside the bed.
“Sir?”
Ignoring how the candle light flickered in her eyes, he gestured to the bed. “That’s the only place to sit. I’ll be damned if I’m sittin’ on the floor all night. Can’t be good for a guy’s health.”
Sam giggled as she shifted over, trying to make room for him. There wasn’t much space on the single bed and they had to squash together to fit. Neither wanted to admit that they enjoyed the contact. He took his boots off so he could make himself comfortable.
It was only as he sat back and relaxed, that Jack noticed the rose petals. Picking one up, he raised an eyebrow.
“It seems Teal’c is quite the romantic,” Sam supplied. “About the only thing he forgot was the music.”
“Ahh,” was all that Jack could get out. A romantic Jaffa was a bit too much for his befuddled brain at the moment.
They sat there in silence for a few minutes, while a million thoughts went through both of their minds. Sam was the one to finally break the silence. “Do you think he’s right?”
“Do I think who’s right?”
“Teal’c. Do you think us deciding to leave everything in the room, will be detrimental to the team?”
Jack thought for a moment before replying honestly to her question. “I guess it has changed things a bit, hasn’t it? I mean, we’re not really as easy with each other as we were.” He smiled at her. “We don’t flirt like we used to.”
Sam smiled back at him. “I miss that,” she admitted.
“Yeah, me too. It’s harder now. Every time I go to say something, I think about whether it will give it all away, whether someone will read between the lines and realise what I’m really feeling.”
With a sigh, Sam rested her head on Jack’s shoulder. It reminded them both of a time when, just for a little while, they were free to love each other. “Do you know what I wish?” Sam asked, breaking the silence once again.
“What?”
“I wish that Thera and Jona had made love.”
“Really?” To say he was surprised was an understatement.
She nodded, blushing at the admission. “It would have been nice to have that memory.”
“Maybe,” Jack said quietly.
Sam raised her head from his shoulder, arching an eyebrow. “Maybe?”
He reached out to take her hand in his. “Sam, it was hard enough going back to friends after we were so close. If we’d gone further... I don’t think I could have given you up.”
Sam’s throat constricted at his admission. “I still don’t know if I can give you up,” she whispered in reply, so quiet that Jack almost missed it. She was looking away from him, trying to hide the tears that were welling.
It was as if Jack instinctively knew that she was crying. He pulled her to him and crushed her to his chest, planting a kiss on the top of her head. When Sam spoke, her voice was muffled, but he still heard her words as clear as day. “I’m in love with you, Jack O’Neill. I love you with all of my soul, and I think, given the chance, we’d be pretty great together.”
“We’d be the best,” he whispered in her ear.
She pulled back slightly, sniffling. “Denying my heart is killing me. I want us. I think I want us more then anything. More than my career...”
Jack silenced her with a kiss. “I want us too. I’d give up everything if it meant I could be with you, Sam.”
Sam leant in to kiss him again. “What ever happens, I want us to have tonight.”
Jack shook his head. “If we have tonight, then we have forever. I told you, once we do this, I won’t be able to let you go.”
“Then hold on to me,” she whispered.
Jack pulled her back into a tight embrace, vowing to never let her go.
So amazed at having her in his arms, he almost missed her fingers as they wriggled under his shirt. They started stroking his stomach, running down to follow the line of his waistband. His groin twitched in anticipation of those hands moving lower. Determined to join in what Sam had started, Jack nuzzled her short, blonde hair, making his way to her ear. Once there, he took the small lobe in his mouth and nibbled gently.
Sam moaned as his tongue flicked over her ear, the feeling going straight to her core, lighting a fire within her. She moved, trying to get closer to him and almost succeeding in pushing him off the bed. Laughing, she pulled him back towards the small bed’s centre and did the only thing she could. Throwing a leg over his, she sat herself in his lap. Once there, she threaded her fingers in his hair and initiated one of the most erotic kisses either had ever experienced. Jack’s tongue thrust in and out of her mouth, letting her know exactly what he was planning to do with the lower part of their bodies.
Without breaking the kiss, Sam moved her hands to Jack’s chest and began unbuttoning his shirt. A moment later he followed suit, sliding the shirt off her shoulders. Once shirts were removed, they pulled back only to remove T-shirts before their lips met again. Jack’s hands roamed Sam’s back, finding the clasp to her bra and undoing it expertly. He pulled it off her before his hands swept over her skin to her breasts. Sam gasped into his mouth, relishing the feel of his hands on her sensitive skin.
Pulling his head back, Jack smiled at her reaction. “Hop up,” he instructed, pushing her off him.
With a curious glance, Sam did as she was told, standing at the end of the bed. Jack moved so that he was sitting in front of her and pulled her closer, so she stood in between his parted legs. She buried her hands in his hair as he planted small kisses on her flat stomach. He dipped his tongue into her naval, delighted with the shiver he received in response.
Pulling back slightly, Jack looked up at her, smiling as he took in her flushed face and bright eyes. Turning his attention back to the job at hand, he moved his fingers to her fatigue pants, first popping the button then pulling the zipper down. He debated whether or not to remove her panties with her pants, quickly deciding he wanted her naked right now. Grasping both pieces of material at her hips, he pulled them down her smooth legs to her ankles, where Sam stepped out of them.
He could smell her arousal, a scent that sent his nerve endings haywire and caused him to harden almost to the point of pain inside his trousers. Taking a moment to admire the small triangle of curls, Jack pulled her closer to him, nuzzling her sex. His tongue darted out, burrowing into her folds to taste her. The feeling almost caused Sam’s legs to buckle. “Oh, Jack,” she breathed, pulling his head closer, encouraging him to continue.
Jack was happy to oblige and continued his ministrations, knowing she must be getting close as she started to tremble. She gasped as she went over the edge. The feelings he was evoking in her were so strong, she found herself almost sobbing at their intensity.
Pulling him away from her, she bent down to kiss him hard, tangling her tongue with his as she felt his hands run up and down her legs. She could taste herself on him, and was surprised that it turned her on even more. Without breaking the kiss, Sam pushed him so he was lying on his back, moving to lay on top of him. She pulled back from the kiss, smiling at the man lying under her.
Jack smiled back at her, reaching up to caress her cheek. “Did you like that?” He asked.
“Mmm, thank you,” she replied, kissing him again. “How ‘bout I return the favour?” She asked, moving so she could caress the bulge she felt beneath her.
Jack gave her a soft smile, shaking his head. “All I want is to make love to you, Sam.” He lifted his head up, nipping at her lips. “That’s all I want.”
She smiled back at him. “I want that too. More than anything.”
Sliding down his body, Sam made sure she pressed against him, stimulating him as she went. She grinned as she heard Jack groan. Once at the foot of the bed, she wasted no time in removing his trousers and boxers. Her breath caught in her throat at the sight that lay before her.
Jack, naked and aroused, watching her with the darkest eyes she’d ever seen. She took a moment to scrutinise him. His chest had a small smattering of hair, his torso was muscled without being overly defined. She followed the trail of hair from his navel to his erection. He was impressive, that much Sam was sure of. His size definitely rivalled the largest she’d had. Dragging her eyes away from his arousal, she finished her appraisal, taking in his long, muscular legs.
Holding her hand out to him, she pulled him to his feet, gasping as their heated skin collided. She kissed him passionately as she turned them around before pulling back and lowering herself onto the bed. It was Jack’s turn to look. He took in her golden hair and dark blue eyes. He’d never seen her eyes that dark before. It blew his mind that they were dark with passion for him.
Breaking eye contact with her, his eyes travelled down her neck to her small but well shaped breasts, down lower to her flat stomach and the patch of sandy curls that told him she was a natural blonde. As he watched, Sam spread her long legs wider, holding out her hand and inviting him to join her.
With a low growl, he crawled up her body before settling between her parted thighs. Their eyes locked as Jack eased himself slowly into her, allowing her time to adjust to his size before he thrust into her fully. He stayed still for a minute, letting them both enjoy the feelings of finally being joined. The feeling of her, warm and tight around him, was almost overwhelming and Jack had to take a few deep breaths to try and calm himself.
He leant down to kiss her as he started thrusting, setting a slow rhythm that Sam quickly matched. Jack fought with his body, his natural instincts demanding he go faster. There was only ever one first time, and he wanted theirs to last forever.
Eventually, Jack felt Sam’s legs tighten around him and knew she was very close. He was certain that when she came, he would follow her. There was no way he would be able to hold back when he felt her body contract around him, special ops trained or not.
He pulled back from her lips, looking into her eyes as they opened. At that moment, they saw exactly what the other was feeling. The depth of the love they saw in each other’s eyes sent a surge through both of them and it was enough to throw them over the edge. Sam arched into him as he thrust into her a final time, her contracting muscles milking every last drop from him.
Jack collapsed on top of her, nuzzling her neck as he tried to get his body under control. His breath was ragged and his heart pounded in his chest.
“Oh, wow,” Sam whispered as she ran her hands up and down his back.
“Oh, yeah,” he agreed, lifting his head to give her a sweet kiss. “Definitely wow.”
He eased out of her before looking either side of him. “What’s wrong?” Sam asked him.
“Just trying to figure out how I’m going to get off you without falling out of bed.”
She giggled. With a lot of wriggling and laughter, they managed to change positions so that Jack was laying on his back and Sam was laying by his side, one leg thrown over his and her head resting on his chest.
“Better? He asked.
“Mmm, much,” she replied, cuddling closer to him.
She looked around the room. “Can you believe Teal’c did all this for us?”
“He’s got talent, that’s all I can say. He’s not gonna be very happy with me though,” Jack confessed.
“Why? I think this is what he was planning,” Sam replied.
“Yeah, but I told him about safe sex a few weeks ago...”
Sam laughed. “Really? Do Jaffa need to practice safe sex? I mean with the symbiote...”
“I don’t know and I’m not real sure I wanna know,” Jack interrupted. “He was just asking me about condoms and I told him.”
“Okay, so why’s he gonna be mad?”
Jack reached over and opened a draw. He pulled out a string of condoms. “He left these for us so I wouldn’t get you pregnant,” Jack said with a grin.
Sam laughed. “Guess you’ll have to explain the pill to him, huh?” She counted the number of small packets Jack held. “Eight? Wow, didn’t know Teal’c thought so highly of your stamina,” she giggled.
“Yeah, when it comes to strength and stamina, the man idolises me,” he joked, pulling her closer.
They were quiet for a few minutes, each lost in their own thoughts. “We could get into so much trouble,” Sam said with a sigh.
“I know, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now we just keep our private life out of the eyes of the military. As far as they’re concerned, we’re friends and team mates.”
Sam giggled. “Like that Kenny Rogers song, ‘Daytime friends and night-time lovers’.”
Jack smiled. “That’s us.” He moved to kiss her. “I do love you, Sam.” He assured her.
She smiled. “I know, I love you too,” she replied and they sealed it with a kiss.

Early the next morning, before the base was up and about, Teal’c opened the door to his room and stepped inside. He smiled slightly at the sight of his two friends asleep in his bed. He turned to look at Janet and Daniel as they stepped in beside him. “Woh,” Daniel breathed, so amazed that Teal’c’s plan had worked, he didn’t even notice that his two best friends were only covered by a strategically placed sheet.
“I can’t believe it worked,” Janet whispered.
“We have indeed been successful. Perhaps we should wake them before others learn of their secret,” Teal’c suggested.
Janet nodded. “I’ll do it. You two get out of here.”
“But...” Daniel started, wanting to see his friend’s faces when they were woken.
“Daniel Jackson. Do you wish to bear the wrath of either Major Carter or Colonel O’Neill if you see Major Carter without her clothes?”
“Good point, Teal’c,” he agreed, rushing to the door.
Janet waited for the door to close before she walked over to the bed. “Rise and shine!” She called in a voice which was far too cheerful for that time of the morning.
Both Sam and Jack jumped awake, Jack catching Sam just before she fell out of the narrow bed. “Janet!” She cried. “You scared the shit out of me! What are you doing in here?”
“We thought that you should probably get up before everyone else does.”
“We? You mean you were in this with Teal’c?” Jack asked.
She grinned. “And Daniel. Now you better get up, the base will be buzzing in half an hour and it may look a little suspicious if someone catches the two of you sneaking out of here.”
“Thanks, Janet, for everything,” Jack told her.
She smiled. “I’m happy for you two. You’re good together.”
Sam smiled at Jack. “We’re the best.”
“Don’t take too long,” Janet warned. “I’ll wait outside.”
Sam sighed, snuggling into Jack’s chest. “Back to real life, I guess,” she murmured.
Jack gave her a squeeze. “Just back to daytime. Night-time will come round soon enough.” He pulled her up his body so he could kiss her. It was deep but not arousing, confirming their love for each other. “Come on, lets get dressed,” Jack said when they pulled apart. As much as he’d love to just stay in bed with her all day, he knew that they’d have to get up soon or they’d risk being found out. He wanted to keep this a secret for a little longer than one day.
They got dressed and Sam changed the sheets for Teal’c, before they walked over to the door. Jack paused at the door, pulling her into his arms. “See you tonight,” he told her, giving her one last kiss.
“You can count on it,” she replied, stepping away from him so he could open the door. Janet looked around quickly before letting them know it was safe to come out.
Daniel and Teal’c walked up to them, Daniel grinning so much Jack was sure he was gonna hurt himself. “No one breathes a word of this, got it?” He asked, looking at each of them.
“Jack! Do you think we’d tell a soul? Despite how much money I could make off the two of you.”
“What?!” Sam squeaked.
Jack shook his head. “I’m sure we don’t want to know. Come on, I need some breakfast.”
“Use up a bit of energy last night, Colonel?” Janet asked coyly.
“Watch it, Doc. I know where you live,” Jack warned.
“And I give you your medical exams, what’s your point?”
They headed off to the commissary, the banter continuing the whole way. Sam and Jack may have become lovers, but by day they were all still the best of friends.
