| The South Jersey Organ Transplant Support Group, Inc is a non-profit organization that provides information and support to patients and families regarding transplantation. We have been serving the transplant community for over 10 years. We provide education to our members in the way of speakers, videotapes and other materials. We often do social events and work with other organizations in order to raise awareness of organ donation and its importance. OUR MEMBERS The group invites people who are awaiting a transplant, have received a transplant or have been affected in some way by transplantation. Our members come together to share their experiences and relate to other members. Members come from diverse backgrounds, which makes our group unique. We have members who have had and/or awaiting kidney, pancreas, heart and liver transplants. Our group welcomes and encourages families and loved ones to participate in meetings as well. SPEAKERS We often invite speakers to our meetings to provide education to our members on various topics including the benefits of hypnotherapy and massage, nutrition before and after a transplant, and the process of organ donation. We are continuously trying to arrange for speakers that will educate and interest our members and their families. FOCUS ON SUPPORT We have and will continue to work with other organizations in the area including the Gift of Life, the South Jersey Coalition and the American Heart Association. Although we participate and strongly support events to promote organ donation with these and other groups, our main focus is to give support to people affected by transplantation. AFFILIATIONS We are not affiliated with any major hospital nor do we have medical personnel at the meetings. The purpose of the group is not to dispense medical advice, but to listen and give insight to people who share similar medical conditions. Members are patients from the area hospitals including Our Lady of Lourdes, Kennedy Memorial, University of Pennsylvania, Einstein Medical, Thomas Jefferson and Temple University. SOCIAL ACTIVITES We have social activities for people to meet and have fun outside of the meeting settings. We are proud of the many lasting friendships that have been built through this group. We have an annual picnic that is normally hosted by a member in August or September. We also enjoy a holiday celebration in December where all the members share good food and laughs! |
| Our meetings are held every First Friday of the month at 7:30 pm at the First Baptist Church in Pitman, NJ.
