A gold medal wasn't the only treasured item Chandra Crawford had hanging around her neck yesterday.

After destroying the field in the women's cross-country sprint to claim her first Olympic medal in Turin, Italy, the 22-year-old Canmore native proudly showed the world a family heirloom she was given before the Games.

Chandra's sister Rosanna, 17, was not only ecstatic to see her sister win, but also, happy the golden gal recognized the Crawford necklace.

"It was my grandmother's on my dad's side and she passed it down to one of her daughters," explained Rosanna yesterday from the family's home in Canmore. "My dad has six sisters and they decided to give it to Chandra as a good-luck charm.

"It has all their birth stones on it because they're all born in different months, so there's six different birth stones on it that she wears around her neck for good luck.

"After every race I saw her take it out of her shirt and then after she showed it to people during interviews and held on to it. It was nice."
