The Town of Schuyler, in collaboration with the NYS Collegiate Rowing Association, is involved in the preliminary planning stages of constructing a world-class facility to serve as headquarters for World-Class Collegiate Rowing Association championship races, kayaking and canoeing in the Town of Schuyler, located in Herkimer County, in Upstate NY. The Erie Canal at Dyke Road in the Town of Schuyler has already been identified as the preferred site for this facility through engineering & feasibility studies, due to its ideal rowing, canoeing, and kayaking conditions and a number of other favorable factors identified in this study. The Olympic caliber world-class rowing facility would house a race course of 2,000 meters (1-1/2 miles) long, 175 meters wide, and 6.5 meters (10') deep, with an inlet and outlet at both ends of the course. It has been determined that this site would be an ideal location since the greatest concentration of rowing organizations are in the Northeast, and the majority of these are within just a few hours' drive.
