The Eagles just cannot get their season off the road after they shocked everybody by throwing away a 2 goal lead against Sinchi when they could have comfortably claimed all 3 points.

Capitalizing on a weak clearance from Cheng Lu, Aleksandar Duric put Jeykanth Jeyapal through to fire a low shot past the diving Chen Si for 1-0 for the Eagles. Later in the second period, Duric got the second for the Eagles when he rose highest to meet Rudy Khairon corner with a downward header to fly pass Chen Si.

The Chinese side were given a lifeline when they were awarded a spot kick. Noh Rahman made a mess of his attempted clearance which floated into his own penalty box. Shahril tried & failed to gather the ball as it fell, instead only managing to foul Zhong Cheng as he challenged for the ball. The keeper was lucky to escape without even a card but he could not keep out Shi Ming’s effort down the middle despite getting a hand to his shot.

A mere 2 minutes later, Geylang United evening turn sour when Zhang Meng completed his side’s Houdini act with his extraordinary free kick from nearer to the halfway mark than to the goal post to deny the Eagles team maximum points.

There is a need the Tigers to look at themselves at they threw away another chance to gain ground to get out of the bottom 3. It had happen too often this season for the Tigers as this time they allowed the Rams to walk away with the full points when it could have been the Tigers night.

The potent Rams strikeforce of Park Kung Guy & Masrezwan Masturi came out with the goods as the pair punished the Tigers lack of concentration at the start & finish of the second half to plunder a goal apiece.

Masrezwan was allowed to connect with Ahmad Latiff’s cut-back from the left touchline but his attempted volley was mishit, falling for to smash home. Fine wing play by Park Tae Won down the right saw him setting up Farhan to shoot at the edge of the 6-yard box. Although his effort bounced off Yazid’s right post, the rebound fell to Roniwardi Mamsa who had all the time in the world to control &volley the ball into the top corner for 1-1. As the fourth official signaled for 2 minutes of added time & with the Tigers piling on the pressure, Rams would be happy to end the game with a point. But Masrezwan had other ideas as he run in between 2 Balestier defenders latching onto a through ball from midfield to shoot with the outside of his right foot which left Bashir clutching thin air as the ball nestled into the bottom corner of the net.

The Stags repaired some of their pride with a 3-0 win against bottom-cellar Jaguars.

The Stags had suffered an embarrassing thrashing in the hand of the Young Lions the previous week & this week anything other than a victory would be a disaster.

It almost happen as the Jaguars held them to a stalemate until the hour mark when the first Stags goal was scored. After that it was all Stags as they collected 3 easy points.

The Young Lions proved that the victory over reigning S-League & Singapore Cup champions Home United back in March was no flash in the pan result when they followed up that victory with a 2-1 win at the Bishan Stadium.

Certainly the difference was the availability of Lionel Lewis as he put on a Man of the match performance to deny the Double Champion time & time again in the first period when the Protectors were on top. In the second period when the Double were plying on the pressure to get the draw he deny them again. It looked like a bad decision by Police Sport Association to allow Lionel Lewis to play against Home United.

Home United took the lead duly punishing the Young Lions for putting on a performance that lacked conviction. The flight of the ball floated into a crowded area from a free kick swung in by Thai J. Surachai baffled Young Lions Lionel Lewis & found its way to the back of the net deflected in by Precious Emuejeraye.

The Young Lions’ defence looked jittery throughout the first period & when Baihakki Khaizan misjudged Indra Sahdan diagonal ball to Peres De Oliveira, it looked almost certain that the Young Lions would go 2 goal behind. That was until Lionel pulled off a miraculous save to deny Peres & after that while on the ground he quickly got up to stop Egmar, who looked odds on to score, in a great double save.

The first half was thrilling & the second half was equally thrilling

Fadzuhasny Juraimi was the toast of the Young Lions early in the second half when he chased down a lost cause off Shaiful Esah clearance & robbed Ridzuan after Aide weak header back to the keeper. Fadzu slotted the ball home from an acute angle as Aide raced back to try to make up for his mistake. Itimi Dickson consolidated the Young Lions good early showing in the second period as he struck a wicked right-foot shot into the far corner of the Home net after receiving the ball in space just inside the box.

The Protectors threw all they had into attack, but found Lionel to be a formidable stumbling block.Lionel made another brilliant stop as Peres shot from outside the box & then again when he was put through inside the box; Lionel coming out confidently to foil the Protectors 2003 topscorer.
