Japan is through to the Second Round of the Asian zone World Cup Qualifying after defeating Oman 1-0 at Muscat. It meant Japan is 6 points clear of Oman with the sole goal coming from Takayuki Suzuki

On the same night Singapore climbed off the bottom of group 3 with a 2-0 victory over India.

The hero of the night was 18 year-old Khairul Amri after coming on as a substitute. First he set up team-mate Indra Sahdan for the opener as Khairul's speed & trickery down the left flank proved too much for India. A cute layoff saw Home United forward Indra Sahdan pounce to score. Then 3 minutes later, he waltzed past 3 defenders before unleashing a stinging drive past Indian keeper Sandip Nandy notching his first international goal after just 4 international games, all as substitute.

Singapore team: Hassan Sunny (GK), Baihakki Khaizan, Aide Iskandar (C), Daniel Bennett, Noh Rahman, Ridhuan Muhd (Khairul Amri, 45’), Shahril Ishak, Goh Tat Chuan, Itimi Dickson, Masrezwan Masturi (Ashrin Shariff, 90’) Indra Sahdan (Ishak Zainol 80’)
