Where did the Vikings come from?

The Vikings came from the north of Europe. Their homes were in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. This area is known as Scandinavia. Sometimes the Vikings are called Danes or Norse men.

Who were the Vikings?
They were farmers, sailors, fishermen and traders. They were all descended from the same tribe therefore all the Vikings spoke a common language called "Donsk Tunga", which means Danish tongue.
Life was hard for them in their own countries. The land was poor and the weather was cold. They lived near the sea therefore they were expert sailors. At the end of the 8th Century they began to leave their own countries in search of new lands to Conquer.
