My name is Tom and I live in Bloomington, IL. This website is intended for others to view my bio and give links to my favorite websites.
I have lived in Illinois all my life and growing up in an all white neighborhood was kinda rough. Since I was the only Asian in town, everyone tried to pick a fight with me. But they really didn't want to fight me because I was Asian, and they just wanted to see if I knew karate. You see, if you didn't know, all Asians know karate. Of course, I didn't know a lick of karate, but to keep all the kids off of me, all I had to do was make a karate sound while making a fist and they wouldn't dare fight me. They would say "Man, he knows karate, don't mess with him." As I grew older I couldn't keep on making the karate sound anymore because they got used to it. Thank god for that movie, The Karate Kid, because an Asian that makes a karate sound along with the Karate Kid stance, no one dared messed with you. Then the Karate Kid II came out and kids realized that his moved didn't work anymore and I started to get my ass kicked by EVERYBODY.
I went to college at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then moved to Bloomington IL. School was rough too. I had to live up with the expectations of being a smart Asian. My parents told me that I was the first Asian in the whole world to get D's and F's in math and science. My parents were so embarrassed, they took off the sticker on their car that said "My son is on the dean's list at the University of Illinois."
My least favorite holiday was Halloween because no one could figure out who I was. White people have it a lot easier when it comes to costumes than Asians. They can dress up as Hollywood actors and famous people and almost everyone would recognize them. At the time, the only Hollywood actor that anyone knew was Bruce Lee. Now all Asians look like Bruce Lee when Halloween rolls around, no matter what you dress up as. One time, I was dressed up as a cowboy and someone yelled "Hey it's Bruce Lee dressed up as a cowboy!"
Right now I'm working for Catholic Social Services, dealing with foster kids. Basically I spank kids that are misbehaving and tell their moms and dads that they're worthless parents. It's such a rewarding and meaningful job. |
