Spouses or friends of active players were allowed to have a Team T-shirt and their own number. These people became honorary members of the Team and they could attend the barbecues, picnics, parties, trips, co-ed sports functions, etc. that were held. Of course the Team Bash and the annual poker night were only for active ball hockey players and retired players.
For more than ten years the start of each new ball hockey season was celebrated by a barbecue in Oakfield Park in early September. We enjoyed a variety of activities such as volleyball, softball, three-legged races, etc. The "egg toss competition" was always the culminating event. Since the eggs weren't hard boiled and this annual competition was held just before the park closed at dusk things usually got very messy for each team of two players.
Of our 99 members there are 21 honorary members and 10 rookie members. A "rookie classification" means that a player was only with us for twelve months. To be eligible for a Team number, a player must come back and play a second season. |
