Nigel's XC Summer Training Log 2006

Hey everyone,thanks for checking out my training log. I am hoping to try to run 400 miles this summer so I can reach my goal of running an 18:05 as a Sophmore. Running has become a huge passion of mine ever since I started at SLUH. In fact, SLUH high has, and I quote Mike Jonagan,"...made me addicted to running!" Week 1  (25 miles)

MONDAY May 29: Ran 3 mi today and it was a hot one; 94 degrees plus the humidity. Made a course in a subdivision not to far away with a huge hill which will be great to train on.

TUESDAY May 30: Ran 4 mi with the temperature being 91 degrees...still trying to work up my legs to put in the big miles.

WEDNESDAY May 31: 0 mi today...not really feeling well today. I will do my best to run tomorrow

THURSDAY Jun 1: 5 mi..felt a lot better this morning and kept a nice pace of 7:50 in this beautiful weather 76 degrees

FRIDAY Jun 2: 5 mi another beautiful day at 75 degrees

SATURDAY Jun 3: 4 mi...soreness in my legs is begining to go away and taking advantage of this great weather...76 degrees

SUNDAY Jun 4: 4 mi today

Week 2  (29 miles)

MONDAY Jun 5: 4 mi today with 74 degrees..if this weather holds up through the summer I will be really happy

TUESDAY Jun 6: 5 mi at a nice pace of 7:45 with 76 degrees

WEDNESDAY Jun 7: 5 mi at 81 degrees..about 8:00 minute pace

THURSDAY Jun 8: 5 mi in 89 degree weather...not much else to say

FRIDAY Jun 9: 0 mi...explains itself

SATURDAY Jun 10: 5 mi..trying to get to 30 miles this week and get a nice base for camp week 1

SUNDAY Jun 11: 5 mi...camp starts tomorrow and I am ready

SUMMER TOTAL: 54 miles



Week 3  (37 miles)

MONDAY Jun 12: 6 mi...right on schedule with first day of camp complete

TUESDAY Jun 13: 9 mi...yah ran a little more than I wanted but really felt fine...pretty proud

WEDNESDAY Jun 14: 5 mi...tempo run of 3 miles today cant remember splits think they were like 6:50, 6:55, 7:01...something like that..not too bad for begining of summer

THURSDAY Jun 15: 5 mi...nice timed run today covered at a nice easy pace of 8:05

FRIDAY Jun 16: 6 miles..ran 4x1 km at an avg of 4:09...Lauder and those guys kept like an avg of 3:21...[wow]I wouldnt be surprise if some guys break 16:00 this season

SATURDAY Jun 17: 1 mi..barely had enough time to put in a decent mile at 6:30 up a hill

SUNDAY Jun 18:5 mi...ran a nice week starting to build up to the heart of the summer where I hope to run a 8-9 mi run continuely

SUMMER TOTAL: 91 miles



Week 4  (36.5 miles)

MONDAY Jun 19: 0 mi...not happy with that

TUESDAY Jun 20: 6.5 miles today..ran tough today[my mom and dad told me that we might join a place where I can run, swim, and do weights]

WEDNESDAY Jun 21: 6.5 mi with a pace of about 8 min...we joined the JCC the place I was talking about today

THURSDAY Jun 22: 5 mi today...crunched for time today and got a nice 5 miler in

FRIDAY Jun 23: 8.5 miles today in 63:58...took about a 2 min break at the 6 mi, but still ran at about a 7:30 pace

SATURDAY Jun 24: 5 mi today at the JCC at about a 7:30 pace and worked in the weight room a little too

SUNDAY Jun 25: 5 mi...nice easy 8 minute pace to come off a nice week

SUMMER TOTAL: 127.5 miles



Week 5  (39.5 miles)

MONDAY Jun 26: swam laps at the JCC for 45 min and swimming is a lot harder than running...For a total today I ran 6.5 miles

TUESDAY Jun 27: did weights in the morning for about 30 min. This morning my dad got his keys locked in his office so he had to wait until 7:00 AM for someone to open the office. When we arrived at the JCC, it was 7:15 and I had to leave around 7:45. So all I had time for was weights. COuldn't run later in the day: 0 miles

WEDNESDAY Jun 28: ran at the JCC at about 6:40 this morning and ran 5 mi on a track at 7:20 pace. I felt I needed to get a hill in today so I got out an ran in a subdivision with a huge hill...I did some hard hill drills on that today[faster than race pace]-2 miles for a total of 7 miles today

THURSDAY Jun 29: ran 4 miles this morning at the JCC and kept an easy 7:45 pace not too quick. I ran a full set of weights afterward and was hoping to run 3 later but got caught up in other things. 4 miles today

FRIDAY Jun 30: ran a total of 6 this morning on the track and later in the afternoon put on some hills with a total of 2.5 miles. 8.5 for today

SATURDAY Jul 1: ran a nice and easy 5 mi

SUNDAY Jul 2: had to plug in those miles to at least get close to reaching 40 for the week; ran about a 4.5 mile in the morning and 1 mile worth of hile drills; later in the evening completed a nice 3 mi: 8.5 miles

SUMMER TOTAL: 167 miles



Week 6  (40.5 miles)

MONDAY Jul 3: hardly had time to run today because it got so hot; 3 miles

TUESDAY Jul 4: FOURTH OF JULY-great morning to run...I think it was about 81 degrees...I broke up my mileage; .5 mile warm up, 6 mile run, and .5 mile cool down: 7 for today

WEDNESDAY Jul 5: ran a total of 5 miles today...my legs were sore from yesterday's workout so I ran a mile warmup with a 3 mile run to act as an active recovery and followed by a mile cool down

THURSDAY Jul 6: 4.5 miles today...took it pretty easy and did a few hill drills

FRIDAY Jul 7: went long distancee today at about a 7:50 pace. A total of 6.5 miles

SATURDAY Jul 8: another distance day. I figured I would pick up the pace a little for the 6.5 I ran today...about a 7:40 pace.

SUNDAY Jul 9: hit 7 miles today and I was cruising although it was on a track. My pace was around 7-7:10. I wanted to start doing some fast workouts

SUMMER TOTAL: 207.5 miles



Week 7  (30.5 miles)

MONDAY Jul 10: 2 miles today..this week will really be tough to run some distance cause it is the final week of Summer Theo and I have lots of tests, projects, and an exam Saturday. Also I leaving on vacation Sunday, too.

TUESDAY Jul 11: 3 miles...I had about 30 minutes to run. Crunched for time again today.

WEDNESDAY Jul 12: 3 miles...I had a long day after school running from place to place for a few hours and was stuck at home working most of the time...I've got to get out and pull in a 7+ miler tomorrow

THURSDAY Jul 13: 3 miles...knee had been bothering me past few days didn't want to take a chance on hurting it although it feels better

FRIDAY Jul 14:8.5 miles. I broke it into a 5 and a 4.5 mile...felt a lot better today

SATURDAY Jul 15: 7 miles...nice run today

SUNDAY Jul 16: 5 miles...left for S-F today and right before I left ran a nice 5 miler

SUMMER TOTAL: 238 miles



Week 8  (52 miles)

MONDAY Jul 17: 7 miles...ran this morning and every morning this week with Dan Didier, friend of my parents who ran every morning while we were camping; he told me that his HS Mile PR was 4:07; and he was in the top 7 in the world in the 10K at one time; also ran for Rebok and was asked to join the US Olympic team. He also said that in his Junior and Senior Summer he ran 1000+ miles in each summer. So that was a nice experience

TUESDAY Jul 18: 8 miles on some trails and roads

WEDNESDAY Jul 19: 8 miles

THURSDAY Jul 20:8 miles

FRIDAY Jul 21:swam a mile and completed a 5 miler earlier that morning...8 miles

SATURDAY Jul 22: 5 miles

SUNDAY Jul 23: 7 miles to end of the week

SUMMER TOTAL: 290 miles



Week 9  (50.5 miles)

MONDAY Jul 24: 6 miles

TUESDAY Jul 25: 4 miles

WEDNESDAY Jul 26: 7 miles

THURSDAY Jul 27:8 miles

FRIDAY Jul 28: 8 miles

SATURDAY Jul 29: 9 miles
