  Dear Friends at the Cartoonists Rights Network,
  I protest the arbitrary action of the Turkish-Cypriot leadership that the permission was not given to the T/C cartoonists to be present at the opening of the Cartoon Exhibition 
organized by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus.
  I was one of the invited persons to the opening ceremony. Because I used to cooperate with the T/C Cartoonists Association as the T/C Coordinator of the bi-communal 
  Movement for an Independent and Federal Cyprus, formed in September 1989.This was the first bi-communal organization formed after the bloody events in 1958 when the T/C fascist underground organization TMT threatened and killed the T/C trade-union members to resign from the Pan-Cyprian Trade Union federation (PEO) as a result of
"partition" policy of the T/C leadership, backed by the then British colonial administration.
  Our bi-communal Movement organized political, cultural, medical and social meetings where people from both sides, Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots could participate. 
Unfortunately after 3-4 months, the T/C regime started to obstruct our meetings by not giving the permission to cross the Green-line to the G/C sector of Nicosia or to the buffer-zone, where we often met at the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia.
  Since 1990, I was not given permission to meet my Cypriot compatriots for over 130 times. At least 5 of them was for the annual bi-communal Cartoon and Painting Exhibitions which were organized by the T/C Cartoonists Organization and the G/C Painter's Association (EKATE).A few times we were given the permission to visit the bi-communal cartoon-paintings exhibitions, where I was the translator for the T/C
cartoonists. We were very happy to meet our compatriots on the other (Southern) side of the Green-line in the last divided city in Europe. Nicosia. I already put a complain to the European Court of Human Rights against the occupying force, Turkey, in Cyprus in 1992.The result is still pending.
  I would like to thank you for the solidarity you show for us, for our freedom of movement in the occupied part of Cyprus. As you know the invasion and occupation of Cyprus took place in the summer of 1974. Since then Turkey has not implemented tens of relevant UN Resolutions about the Cyprus problem.
  We hope to see soon a united and federal Cyprus, where all the citizens 
will enjoy their basic human rights and live in peace.

SERGİNİN AÇILIŞINDA, KIBRIS CUMHURİYETİ TEMSİLCİLER MECLİSİ TARAFINDAN,KIBRISLI TÜRK VE RUM KARİKATÜRCÜLERE “ONUR ÖDÜLÜ” VERİLECEK...
Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti Temsilciler Meclisi tarafından 31 Ekim-4 Kasım 2001 tarihinde düzenlenen, “Politika ve Karikatür” isimli karikatür sergisinin tekrarı düzenleniyor... 
13 Kasım 2001 tarihinde (Bugün) saat 17.00’da, Lefkoşa ’nın Rum kesimindeki Lefkoşa Belediyesi “Mağusa Kapısı Kültür Merkezi”nde, Temsilciler Meclisi başkanı Dimitris Hristofyas tarafından açılacak olan serginin 17 Kasım 2001 tarihine dek açık kalacağı öğrenildi... 
Bu arada, “Politika ve Karikatür” konulu sergiye katılan 32 Kıbrıslı Türk-Rum karikatür sanatçısına, Temsilciler Meclisi tarafından “Onur ödülü” verileceği öğrenildi... 
Bilindiği gibi, 31 Kasım 2001 tarihinde düzenlenen “Politika ve Karikatür” konulu sergi nedeniyle kapsamlı bir karikatür albümü ve eserleri sergilenen çizerleri tanıtıcı bir tanıtım broşürü yayınlanmıştı... Yayınlanan karikatür albümünde, Kıbrıs Rum Karikatür Sanatı’nı temsilen, karikatür sanatçısı Yorgo Mavroyennis ile Kıbrıs Türk Karikatür Sanatı’nı temsilen Kıbrıs Türk Karikatürcüler Derneği başkanı Hüseyin Çakmak’ın -Türkçe
ve Rumca- birer önsözü yeralmaktadır...

NO PERMISSION AGAIN FOR THE TURKISH-CYPRIOT CARTOONISTS!...
(13 November 2001-Nicosia) The  Denktas regime in the north of Cyprus did not give permission again for the Turkish-Cypriot cartoonists, who wanted to participate at the award-giving ceremony of the cartoon exhibition "Politics and Cartoon", organised
in the Greek-Cypriot sector of Nicosia on 13 November 2001 at the "Nicosia Municipality- Famagusta Gate Cultural Centre." The Turkish-Cypriot cartoonists were
not given any reason as the pretext for not getting the permission to cross from the Turkish-occupied part of Nicosia to the government-controlled southern part.
The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus would give honorary awards to 32 Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot cartoonists, who gave their works to the exhibition, which was open to the public from 31 October to 4 November 2001. The works of the following Turkish-Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot cartoonists took part both at the exhibition and the album: Marios Athienitis, Arif A. Albayrak, Aristos Aristotelous,Sotos Voskarides , M. Serhan Gazioglu, Ramiz Gokce,George Zenonos, Musa Kayra, Diogenis Kamenos, Demetris Karayiannis, Antonis Kellas, Spyros Kettiros, George Kotsonis, Savvas Lazouras, Demetris Mamas, George Mavrogenis, George Mitides, Tryfonas Michaelides,Erdogan Baybars, Mehmet Ulubatlı, Petros Papapetrou,Andros Pavlides, Anastasia Pitta, Nicos Poyiatzis,Bertan Soyer, Mustafa Tozakı, Huseyin Cakmak,Fileious, Andreas Charalambides, Andreas Hadjiloizou,Chri. (13 Kasım 2001-Lefkoşa) Kıbrıs’ın Kuzeyindeki Denktaş rejimi, Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti Temsilciler Meclisi tarafından, 13 Kasım 2001 tarihinde, Lefkoşa’nın Rum kesimindeki Lefkoşa Belediyesi “Mağusa Kapısı Kültür Merkezi”nde gerçekleşecek olan “Politika ve Karikatür” konulu karikatür sergisinin ödül törenine katılmak isteyen Kıbrıslı Türk Karikatürcülere hiçbir gerekçe göstermeksizin yeniden izin vermemiştir…

Eminim simdiye Kibrisli Rum karikatürcülerin yazili mesajini almisinizdir. Kristal berrakliginda ve cesur açiklamaniz, karikatür sergisinin açilisinda okundu ve katilanlari hayrete düsürdü. Herkes iki dakikadan fazla bir süre sizi bu açiklama nedeniyle alkisladi.!!
13 Kasim’da bizimle birlikte olmaniz için izin verilmemesi nedeniyle bazilarimizin çizdigi karikatürleri sana gönderiyorum. Eger Kibris’ta birçok insan ayni iyi ruhu korurlarsa, eminim bir gün Girne, Baf, Lefkosa, Magusa ve ortak ülkemizin baska yerlerinde ortak karikatür sergileri açariz.

If many people in Cyprus keep the same good spirit, I am sure that one day we will have common cartoon exhibitions in Kyrenia, Paphos, Nicosia, Famagusta and other places of our common country.
