Week of 6/26: A look at some of the training and activities this week- Racing next weekend in the Saratoga 12/24 so this week is a bit of a taper Sunday: tempo ride in 95 degree heat (what is a tempo ride- its a ride where you stay at 85-90% of your LT for a given period of time in this case it was 90 minutes) Monday: rest Tuesday: Lactate buffering Wed: Intervals planned on a longer ride to New Canaan, but was met with buckets of rain. PLANNED ROUTE Thursday: Recovery ride (1 hour at easy pace - skirted Rain) Friday - Hill Work (Keehler) Saturday- TO New Cannan and Back via Ridgefield (check route posting) Task for next week - scout parts of the route, put HR through all the ranges, rest and eat well- RACE on SAT |
SOUTHBOUND - riding 22 in 22 A bit about this record: The North to South record was set in August of 2001. It took the rider 24:20:00 to make the 325.8 mile crossing. He had trouble in Putnam county because of an ordinance that forbids nighttime riding. Bud will leave Rouses Point sometime around midnight so that travel though Putnam should occur just before dusk. He hope to arrive at the shore of the LI Sound between Rye and Portchester around 10PM |

Potential route- 335.1 miles |
7/10 The route is scouted for the most part, now we just have to work out some of the logistics, including trying to find some short cuts to shave some milage. This week will be spent contacting the proper authorities to let them know a bike is coming through escorted by a crew, so they are not surprized by it, especially during night time riding. As for riding this week? well, its going to be a light week - BUD just completed an AWESOME 12 HOUR race - 241 MILES!!!! T-shirts for the record are in the works - let me know if you are interested. We are also looking for a suitable celebration venue near the end of the route in RYE if you know just the place let us know |
7/12 - Spent the afternoon going over the list of things that need to be done before hand. Talked about getting back on the bike tomorrow afternoon in the heat of the day as some of the most serious climbing on this route is out in the sun in the heat of the day. We are waiting to hear from UMCA about the exact terminus. Bud was told that he had to end at the sound, but apparently, the current record holder was allowed to end at American Road in Greenwich, which is on the border with Armonk, which is where the 10 mile discrepancy comes from. |
week of July 23-29 Speedwork in Montauk July 30-31 Long rides at home (quick century) Aug 1 - Intervals on 100 2x 5,6,7,8 Aug 3 - headed to Lake Placid to ride the ADK 540 route. The weather was clear when we left home at 4AM but the minute we got the bikes off the car and said goodbye to John, the sky opened up. The route was deceptive in many areas - this is a very difficult route with many long (greater than 7 mile) climbs that are not part of the description. We hit Lisa G's for a bite and an UBU before heading home. We basically ended up pulling an all nighter- arriving home at 3AM. Aug 4- maybe a recovery spin, at dusk, backwards on routine route only to find out it was a hell of alot of climbing in that direction. Found Henry and Rich as we were about to sum up our efforts, chased them down only to climb yet another beauty! OK call Matt and Dave back when we get to Carolyn Way-eventually we lost the light. T-shirts FINALIZED should have them soon. |
