Aragorn II/ Strider
Aragorn the II was born the heir to Gondor. His father, Arathorn II, was slain by orcs when he was merely 2 years old. His mother, Gilraen the Fair and he were taken under the protection of Elrond, to Rivendell, where he grew up.
Aragorn was known as Estel (meaning hope) until he was 20 years old, and only then was he told his true identity.
Aragorn took leave of Rivendell and became a ranger, wondering the wilds alone. he met Gandalf the Grey and they became good friends.
In T.A 2980 Aragorn sought rest and went to Lothlorien. Once he left there he was more determind than ever to regain his kingdom, that was lost so many years ago. In T.A  3001, Gandalf came seeking help in capturing Gollum. 8 years later, Aragorn finally captured Gollum and took him to Mirkwood, where Gandlaf would question him.
Aragorn soon left Mirkwood and went out into the wilds, where he became known as Strider. Strider became a rugged woodsman, one who could easily avoid traps on the enemy. He was the most skilled huntsman of his day but many feared him, for  the rangers had a dangerous reputation. He knew of all the lands and the people in them being very knowledgable.
T.A 1 March 2931- F.A 1 March 120
Gandalf told Strider of Frodo's journey and Strider met them in Bree where he saved them from an attack of the black riders. At Rivendell, Strider took part in the council, where he was selected as a member of the company. When in the mines of Moria, Strider proved worthy of a leader and was made so when Gandalf fell into shadow. After exiting the mines he quickly led them to the safety of Lothlorien. Amon Hen was the next stop for the company and one Aragorn regretted deeply, there he let Sam and Frodo go alone to Mordor, Boromir, a member of the company, died and Merry and Pippin were kidnapped my Orcs.
