First Sergeant Robb D. Smith was born and raised in Arvada, Colorado where he joined the Army Reserves in 1983 at the age of seventeen. He later transferred to the Regular Army in 1986 and later transferred back to the Army Reserves in 1995 


His duty assignments and positions spanning over 20 years of service include Carpenter, Charlie Company, 244th Engineer Battalion, Aurora, CO; Pershing Missile Crewmember, Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, Neu-Ulm, Germany; Warhead Technical Specialist, Headquarters Service Battery, 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, Neu-Ulm, Germany; Cartographer, 175 Engineer Company, 20th Airborne Engineer Brigade, Ft. Bragg, NC; Field Recruiter and Assistant Station Commander, Salt Lake City Recruiting Battalion, duty detailed to Cedar City, UT; Construction Supervisor, Alpha Company, 244th Engineer Battalion, Boulder, CO; Platoon Sergeant, Alpha Company, 244th Engineer Battalion, Boulder, CO; Construction Inspector, Headquarters Support Company, 244th Engineer Battalion, Denver, CO; First Sergeant, Alpha Company, 244th Engineer Battalion, Boulder, CO.

His Combat tours and deployments include Operation Desert Shield and Storm, Hurricane Andrew Relief and Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.


His awards include, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 2nd Award, Army Achievement Medal 5th Award, Good Conduct Medal 3rd Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with M-Device and Bronze Hourglass, National Defense Service Medal 2nd Award, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon 3rd Award, Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserves Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait). He resides in Loveland, Colorado with his wife Alexis, children Andrew, Ryan and Rebecca.
