Scriptural Analysis of Jehovah's Witnesses Teachings

This is the start of a new section on this site which will continue to grow and add more articles as time permits. On this page, we will review a number of the key doctrines of the Watchtower Society (Jehovah's Witnesses).

On the main Watchtower website, we read:

"When it comes to teachings offered as Biblical truth, the Witnesses strongly endorse the course followed by the Bereans when they heard the apostle Paul preach: "They received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so." (Acts 17:11) Jehovah's Witnesses believe that all religious teachings should be subjected to this test of agreement with the inspired Scriptures, whether the teaching is offered by them or by someone else. They invite you—urge you—to do this in your discussions with them."

We trust that the Watchtower Society means this, as this is exactly the purpose of this page: To respond to that urging by the Watchtower Society and to go to scripture to see if these teachings are true.

Comparison of Jehovah's Witness (Watchtower Society) and Christian Teachings

This is a very brief overview of the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses and Christianity with references to the Bible and to Watchtower Documents. It is not by any means complete nor intended to be but is intended to provide a brief overview for those who may not have familiarity with the Watchtower Society or a quick reference guide on basic doctrine for those who may need a quick reference when dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses. Other good sources for more detailed information are referenced below.

The Standard of Truth

We all need to decide the basis upon which we will determine what is right and what is wrong. This is more important than what we currently believe because if we are in the wrong, but our standard is right, it will guide us towards the truth. If we are using the wrong standard, then even if we are currently sound in our beliefs, we are at risk of being led astray into false doctrine. What our standard of truth is is absolutely critical.

Who Is Jesus?

This is a critical question to the Christian faith. Jehovah's Witnesses tell us that Jesus is a god, but not the one true God, but rather is the archangel Michael, who came to earth in the flesh. This document provides a very concise overview of what the Bible says about Jesus and the gospel with specific references to allow the reader to study the truth of what is said by checking it out for themselves.

Is Jesus God?

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is not God, but a god, specifically, the archangel Michael. Is there any scriptural basis for the belief that Jesus is God, or is this simply a doctrinal error developed by men as the Jehovah Witnesses say?

Does John 1:1 Say that Jesus is "a god"?

One of the key arguments that the Watchtower Society puts forward to try to argument against the
Biblical teaching that Jesus is God is to argue that John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is only "a god", not
God. This article examines this text by going back to see what it says in the original Greek.

John 17:1-3 Who is the Only True God?

One of the key arguments that the Watchtower Society puts forward to try to argument against the
Biblical teaching that Jesus is God is to argue that John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is only "a god", not
God. This article examines this text by going back to see what it says in the original Greek.

Blood Transfusions

Jehovah's Witnesses claim that it is contrary to God's commands to accept blood transfusions. In this document, we look at the basis which the Jehovah's Witnesses' claim is the basis for this believe and we examine it by looking at which scripture says when it is read in context.

False Prophecy

The Watchtower Society is, according to the teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses, a prophet. How well has this prophet performed against God's standard of 100% accuracy? What about the claim of false predictions? What is the truth?

What is Truth?

Is there any validity to the belief that one may not tell the truth or hide the truth, and yet not be guilty of lying, if it is done for the right reasons?

Questions for Jehovah's Witnesses who Love the Truth

This book was written by a man and his wife who were formerly devoted Jehovah's Witnesses. He worked at the Watchtower headquarters. Over time, there were some questions that began to trouble him, and it was these questions which eventually caused him to accept the truth and leave the Watchtower Society. In this book, he put forward the questions which caused him to leave, along with photocopies of the evidence which demonstrates that what he says is true, and completes the picture with answers to those questions. This is an excellent book to provide to a Jehovah's Witnesses who loves truth and is willing to investigate the facts.

Reasoning from the Scriptures Jehovah's Witnesses

For those who have had to deal with the knock on the door and were not sure what it is that Jehovah's Witnesses actually believe and how to refute them, this book will be a major help in not only clearly refuting the false teachings but also in witnessing to the truth of gospel found in scripture.
