It was nice out, so I continued my sightseeing journey.  Today's adventure took me to Independence Pass.  The Continental Divide is there.  That means, well... I don't really know what that is, but I'm assuming it's something cool.  Maybe it has to do with the rain or something?  I don't know.  I wasn't a mountain major.  I do know that it was really pretty up there.  Yeah, yeah, more mountains and crap, but I don't think I'll ever get tired of them.  Well, maybe when it's cold and snowy and I've been here for twelve years...

It was a long drive.  Rudy was good to me.  I pulled off to the side a few times to take some pictures.  It was cool.  I just drove up the mountains.  Yep - to the top.  At some points the road gets narrow.  At some points the road is only one lane... yeah, that can be problematic since there are still cars going up and cars coming down.  Especially around the rocky crags of the mountains.  Good times... I also passed the mountain rescue people.  That was exciting.  I didn't stop to see what was going on, but I did see some police cars and some suspended looking bed thing.  I don't know the name of it, but you know what I mean.  Yeah, there were people hanging off the side of a mountain and stuff.  Anyway, the trip up was long, but worth it.  It was fun to watch the temperature of the thermometer of my car drop every few seconds.  I was wearing a t-shirt, cause well, it was 50 degrees when I left.  Well, 4,000 feet or so later (to a grand elevation of about 12,000 feet), it was about 23 degrees.  That's cold.  But I had traveled far, so I bounded out of my car and skidded along the icy path to the overlooking area.  It was awesome.  Granted, I could only run for about 4 seconds because there was no oxygen up there (and because my exercise consists of couch-ups and the remote curl, but anyway)... It was neat.  And snowing.  Yeah for snow.  See, it's been so long since I have winter that the snow doesn't bother me yet.  Oh, it will.  And don't worry... I'm sure you'll get to hear about it.  What was I talking about?  I don't remember.  Anyway, I went to Independence Pass and it was pretty and then I came home and had some cookies.  I call that a successful day.  Look at my pictures.

Ghost town on the way
Here's a fun shot of the road... See that line going horizontally across the mountain?  Yeah, that's the road leading to the top.
Look - this place was dangerous enough to warrant a guard rail.  For a place that has so many thousand foot drops, they aren't too fond of protecting cars from falling off the road.  Look down... It was neat.  Sort of scary, because the road was so narrow, and the drop down was immense.  But cool, nevertheless.
