BACK FROM VACATION

    I had a nice 2 weeks and 4 days away, now I am back. I had many e-mails to check through, and have found that many of you have kept active in SMK while I was away. It is great to see that there are so many players competing in SMK, and some have made some fantastic new records these past few weeks. Lets take a look at what's been happening....

FIRST THINGS FIRST : THREE NEW MEMBERS!

    There were three new members to the SMK site, two of which that had sent their times in just before I left for vacation, but after the last update. Many of you know who these two are already.

    Firstly we have received an e-mail from Paolo Petriella. He is a seriously fast SMK Player in the PAL entry because he is entering into the Legends already! He is currently the SMK Champion of Italy, since then he hasn't submitted any PRs, but we hope to hear from him again soon. He has entered the PAL World Rankings into #9, overall standard Legend G.

    Our second new Player has been very active over the past weeks while I was away. His name is Lars Nouwen and he is from the Netherlands. This Player definitely has Elite quality driving on the way in SMK if he continues to PR. He was aiming to reach Master standards overall, but stopped at Pro A overall standard for the time being and at #36 on the PAL World Rankings.

    If the high standard entry by Paolo wasn't enough of a suprise, we received a mail just yesterday from Jérôme Gava, from France. He has been an SMK fan since its release. He has made some really fast 150cc records as can be seen on Nicolas's site. He saw the competition in Time Trials and then decided to send his records in. He has made some amazing times including two very fast VL1 records. His overall standard is Legend F and he has entered the PAL Players' List at #7!!

    To Paolo, Lars and Jérôme, all of your times are added to the Top Times Lists and World Rankings, you all have your own profiles made and the links are on the PAL Players' List. You are now full members, welcome to the site!

CORRECTIONS TO SOME SR SCORES

    Unfortunately we found out that there were some small errors on a few of the PAL Players' SR Scores. My SR was re-calculated by Stan and was found to be a bit faster. Archibald also informed me of a possible error in Gerard Roodhorst's SR Score. It was by quite a large amount, and Gerard is moved back down to Legend F also switching places with Pierre L'Hoëst. Gerard hadn't played SMK for a long time so it seems that this error was made back then when we had a big SR error problem. This affected many players and Gerard's SR was maybe left by accident. Steven's SR was also re-calculated to find a slight difference but no rank changes.  Small SR errors were also corrected on Joseph Hurtgen's and Jason Whalls's and Brian Gallo's SR Scores. Nowadays most players are calculating SRs themselves which does save time and helps with accuracy; the SRs can be double checked.  Stanley Jeram has also been making spreadsheets to keep track of SR scores and things. This will also be of great help in maintaining the World Rankings accurately.

SIMON LAFLAMME ON FIRE!!!

    There is one player who has impressed the most these past weeks. He has made PRs on all courses over and over again constantly improving his times. He started off on Elite E when he entered, now he has made it to the Legends!! He has been hitting many good Legend times on many courses and some GOD times. On Sunday 5th August a mail came through yahoogroups and he announced his first World Record on Choco Island 5-lap!! This is of course Simon Laflamme! It seems that we are finding some of the best SMK Players in the World in Canada as Simon is following in the same style as Louis-Philippe and Stan! When Simon reached Legend, he did announce that he was not going to stop there, because he will continue to fight his way through the Legends, and hopefully reach GOD standard overall! Simon is at Legend G, 4 points from Legend F and #8 on the NTSC World Rankings!!

STANLEY JERAM GOING FURTHER INTO GOD STANDARD!!

    Stanley Jeram, NTSC World Champion has been Karting a lot these past few weeks, making some interesting new PRs and World Records! To start off with he continued BC3 5-lap and nearly hit the GOD time. He will be able to take the WR there and most likely a sub 1'30" time!! DP1 was his next target and he took both WRs there, including a lap under 14"90! He now has the WRs on all of the Donut Plains courses!! Bowser Castle 1 followed next as he took the 5-lap WR, nearly snatching the sub 1'28" there aswell, but was 0.03 seconds short. A fantastic CI1 1-lap WR was also made by Stan to counter attack Simon Laflamme's success and CI1. Lastly Stan went on to MC1 and has been chipping away at the milliseconds towards 1'00", so far having made a tie with Charles Piché's record. Stan may be able to break the 1'00" at MC1 if he keeps trying there, we look forward to hearing more!

KELLY MALO GETTING FASTER!

    Kelly Malo has been setting faster records, it seems that he can make it to the Legends sometime in the near future if he continues to set PRs. Altogether he has set 17 PRs, one of them being a water trick record for VL2 lap. Kelly set a nice 5-lap and 1-lap on MC2, and two Legend times on VL1. CI1, MC2 and GV3 had the largest SR point cuts. He has now just about made it to King D also having passed another few players to become #13 on the NTSC World Rankings!

PIERRE L'HOËST REACHES LEGEND E!

    Pierre sent in 14 great new PRs on 24th July, and he is now showing that he can take more of the French records, making a closer competition towards Nicolas Clementy. He drove a very fast MC2 lap record, and managed to improve his WR on GV2 fastlap!! Pierre had enough SR points cut down to reach Legend E overall. He is currently #3 on the PAL Players' List. We look forward to hearing of more of Pierre's times when he gets back from holiday.

JOAKIM ALDERBORN RETURNS!

    PAL SMK Player from Sweden, Joakim Alderborn has returned to SMK to set new PRs! He has managed to hit 17 new records so far which will slowly help him to make his way to the top ranks in Sweden. When he karted more a year ago he used to make many PRs and climb many places on the Players' List. Now it seems he has a good chance to become #1 in Sweden if he continues to PR like this. Joakim has now passed two standards to reach Elite E overall. He has also passed two players and is just a few points behind Andreas Runnelid.

    Raphael Braun has informed us that he is off to vacation now, but he hopes to be achieving King A sometime after he returns, and Legend is just around the corner it seems for the Champion of Switzerland. 4 Legend times and 2 King times have helped Raphael climb to #10 on the PAL Players' List again. He had lost two positions from the new entries of Paolo and Jérôme, but now he is on the way to catching more players.

    Andrew submitted 4 new PRs, two of which were some nice King times on BC1 an equally nice King time on GV2. He had a lot of difficulty on BC3 when he attempted that afterwards, but managed to get rid of his last Master time and getting closer to the Australian record there. His SR is now exactly on 12.000 making him a King E standard Karter overall! Two more standards two pass and Andrew can become #1 in Australia!

A SMALL PRESENT FROM ME

    The night before I went on vacation, I was determined to play some SK and hopefully make a PR or a new WR somewhere. I was glad I did! First I started out on MC1 to just practice and see how my driving was going, after a while I cut my way through to 1'01"27 feeling that my handling of the kart was fine. I tried a few other races, then finally VL1....

My PR that evening:

CONFUSION WITH JÉRÔME GAVA'S SR

    Jérôme Gava e-mailed this week about his SR Score. He calculated it to be 5.500 compared to the site's current 5.650 figure. After checking that the standards were correct and carefully checking the score, it is still 5.650. If any other players could please check to confirm this, that would be of great help. Jérôme may be getting some PRs in soon also, which we are looking forward to seeing.

    To Jérôme, it is possible you have made an error in the bonus points. If im right, you calculated for the VL1 5-lap, -10 points. Your time was 0'57"98 if i remember, this is -4 points. For the 5-lap times, the bonus points go down by 1 point every 0.25 of a second. You were a second ahead of the GOD time, so therefore it is 4 points. For the 1-lap, it is every 0.05 seconds, so that is correct.

KELLY MALO'S GREAT WEEK!!

    This week has been great for NTSC Karter from U.S.A, Kelly Malo! He has hit a lot of fast PRs including something really following behind Simon's CI1 5-lap! A fast VL2 GOD 1-lap was also driven, and these two he has got on tape. It will take a while to get a tape finished, but we look forward to seeing some of the times he has driven! He is really getting rid of his lower standards now and moving up to the higher Kings! Kelly is now King C and #9 on the NTSC Players' List overall.

JOAKIM AIMING FOR #1 IN SWEDEN!

    It seems that Joakim is serious about getting to #1 in Sweden now as he sends 23 new PRs in this week!! Mainly Elite times with some King times included! He has been using Bowser and D.K.Jr on some of the harder courses, only DP3 left to try with Bowser and D.K.Jr; he should be able to make some fast records there! Joakim has climbed 5 positions to #24 on the PAL Players' List! One of the Karters he passed was Magnus Rydh, one of the top 4 Swedish Karters who was a part of an old SMK site years ago!

A GREAT WORLD RECORD FROM STAN!

    Stanley Jeram hit a very important WR this week! He has managed to break 1'00" on Mario Circuit 1!!! Not only that, but he has hit 59" 4 times so far, he has a three way 59"99 tie! He may now be able to improve his fastlap some more! We will see!

KB2 MADNESS!!

    This can only mean one thing....Gerard Roodhorst is back! Gerard made some super fast KB2 WRs on PAL before he left playing SMK. On his return he started improving them even more! A great new 1-lap World Record, then followed a series of 5-lap WR improvements into 1'03"!!! Gerard has also been taking that skill into CI2 as he hits double GOD there. He recently started improving VL1 where he has a King and Legend time so far. Gerard got to Legend E on overall standards and was in a tie with Pierre for 3rd place. Gerard won the 3rd place for being ahead on matchups.

FRANCK MAZIÈRES CLIMBS FURTHER IN KING D

    Franck sent some new PRs this week, almost all Legend times! He then improved over his KB1 PR for a sub 1'01" time! His MC1 lap, BC1 and MC3 times are looking very fast now indeed! He has managed to climb further in King D, getting closer to King C as a result of his new records!

ANDREAS IMPROVES MC4 1-LAP

    Andreas Runnelid has been trying to get under 22 seconds using Toad/Koopa, but decided to improve his PR with D.K.Jr/Bowser because it was easier. Gradually he has improved his PR as he made attempts and turned to Bowser for his latest 1-lap PR. He may be able to hit a good 5-lap time soon!

EARLY UPDATE

    I had to start the update a bit early this week, because I will be busy over the next few days, probably until Monday. This meant that I might not have checked the e-mail later on Wednesday, so apologies for those whose PRs are sent and didn't get into this update. They will be in for next week.

GV2 PAL LAP WR AND PIERRE L'HOËST

    Pierre has lost his PAL WR on GV2 Lap this week sadly because we realised he was using the incorrect strategy to achieve it. So I will take the opportunity to explain the correct method for making this lap. The jump across the gap must be made hopping across the complete gap, if the jump is made at an angle, you will be able to cut the next corner well enough to make a noticeable difference. NTSC Players have been using this strategy so far. On PAL it is harder to make the gap but has been done before. We decided a long time ago that breakig the blocks on the corner to jump the gap (makes the gap smaller) is not allowed. Mainly because corners can be broken off on all the GV courses to make fast laps and it doesn't seem right to do so. As we get new members to the site, it is important that we remind them as they discover the small jump over the gap, or learn from others, that they use the correct method.

SIMON LAFLAMME IS LEGEND E!

    Simon Laflamme continues to hit great PRs, and this week he improved on his already super-fast CI1 5-lap WR!!! He has a GOD time there now, and has hit some other great records on other courses! A pair of Legend G times on MC4, and a VL2 time getting faster! DP1 and BC2 are slowly improving and CI2 was also really great with a 1'08" 5-lap and a super fastlap near to the World Record! Simon has now managed to climb to Legend E overall and pass a few Karters to #5 in the World on NTSC!!

GERARD ROODHORST HITTING FAST PRS

    After Pierre's small SR score drop, this meant that with Gerard's new PRs, he would take the lead into 3rd place in the World on PAL! He has hit some fast PRs this week, some of which have taken some decent SR points off! He made a 12"24 lap on KB2 last week which wasn't in the update, but his new PRs are looking good, with a sub 1'00" on VL1, some fast new records on CI1 and a pair of good DP3 PRs! Gerard has now left Pierre a bit further behind on Legend E as he is on the way to Legend D!

    After losing his PAL WR, Pierre's PR on GV2 Lap is back to his normal 0'12"53 lap, which meant that he has lost some SR points there. However, he did hit some nice PRs this week that have regained his lost SR points! A nice set of PRs on MC1 this week as he goes under 12"20 on the lap with a 5-lap closer to mid 1'01"! His BC1 times are also looking fast!

CHOCO ISLAND 1 MADNESS!!!

    I have to say that this has been a pretty crazy week involving one track:  Choco Island 1!! Simon Laflamme and Stanley Jeram more or less declared war on each other on this course as they took turns in improving the WRs, the lap record has also gone down to a really fast level. If that wasn't enough, Kelly Malo also joined in to the fun! Read on to find out more about what happened.

KELLY MALO SHOOTING TOWARDS LEGEND!!

    Kelly Malo has become one of the fastest karters on NTSC as he is attacking the times of the top players! His MC3 PRs looked very fast with the 5-lap under 1'32" but what was a real suprise was the great GOD time at CI1 5-lap followed by a close to the WR fastlap! He has been hitting PR after PR in King and Legend standards, and is now at King A overall! It looks as though he can reach Legend G within the next few weeks, depending on the amount of PRs he makes.

JOAKIM ALDERBORN HEADING TOWARDS THE KINGS!

    Joakim Alderborn has continued to set a long list of PRs, pass more players and reach higher standards in order to become #1 in Sweden. His PRs included 1 Pro time, 1 Master time, 10 Elite times, 11 King times and 2 Legend times, 25 PRs in all! Once he is hitting more King times, it looks like the title of SMK Champion of Sweden will be in his hands. Once he has stuck to Bowser or D.K.Jr for 100% of the courses, he will make the best possible times, and will be in the Kings with ease, and can start working his way to the Legends. Joakim really does have a lot of potential with the amount of PRs he is making, it will be interesting to see his position over the next few weeks! Joakim Alderborn has passed 2 karters to become #22 in the world on PAL and #3 in Sweden! He is now Elite B!

SIMON LAFLAMME REACHING LEGEND D!!

    Probably one of the best weeks again for Simon Laflamme as he sets Choco Island 1 on fire with his fast driving! Him and Stanley Jeram were swapping WRs here back and forth, and eventually the 5-lap time which has now become a really fast WR has landed in the hands of Simon and the fastlap in the hands of Stanley. They were both also under threat from the Challenge of Malo's times here which encouraged them to both improve their records. Simon has also achieved some nice new records for BC2, GV3 and MC1! This all helped his SR quite a lot and he has made it to Legend D overall!

STANLEY JERAM WITH MORE CRAZY WRS!!

    Stanley Jeram has had one of the best weeks this week with 6 new records, some of them being great new World Records! He started off on BC2 5-lap, and although he hasn't reached his full potential yet, hit a nice 1'41" time. He tried VL2 for a good lap, but hasn't reached full potential there yet, but he took a WR for the 5-lap! He is also working on VL1 1-lap for a new WR as there is lots of room left there. Choco Island 1 WRs have been shattered all over the place, and Stan was having difficulty reaching the GOD time for fastlap, eventually he hit it, and nearly made a bonus point aswell! He had the CI1 WR for the 5-lap but this was later taken back by Simon.

    After Pierre lost that GV2 Lap record the other week, and only made up for his lost SR points with last week's PRs, he went even further with 6 great new records! Now he is back on his way to catching Gerard Roodhorst (Dutch Champion of SMK) to retake the #3 position in the world! Pierre hit some fast records including 3 new records of France! These included a good 1'17" on MC2 and a sub 1'41" on MC4 5-lap with a great milestone reached at sub 20 seconds on the fastlap!
