DESIGN A BOOK JACKET
Front cover
The title and the author's name must be prominent. The art of work must gige the reader some idea of the kind of the story it is - funny, frightening, mystery, adventure, and so on. The picture on the front is often what catches the reader's interest first when choosing a book, so take care with it.
The blurb
The flap inside the front cover should have the blurb on it. The blurb tells the reader about the storywiyhout giving away the surprises and secrets. The blurb should capture the reader's interest and attention, and should make the reader curious to read the book. If the blurb cannot fit on the front flap alone, it sometimes continues on the back flap
About the author
The author's boigraphy can be on the back flap , but sometimes is found on the back cover . The biography generally includes details of where the author was born and lives now. It also includes details of the author's interest, career, and so on. You may have to do a little research to find this deatails. Look in the library for other books by the same author, and look for a 'who's who' book about authors of children's books.
Other books by the same author
There is often a list of other books by the same author, sometimes on the back flap and sometimes as part of the biography. Reserch needed again!
The spine
The spine shows the title, the author and the publisher of the book
Somewhere on the cover (frequently on one of the flaps, separate from the rest of the text) you can find the name of the cover illustrator, so don't forget to include your name someehere as the designer and artist of the book jacket.
