Ain’t No Sunshine by DMX is about depression. I chose this song for how Romeo feels in the beginning of the play. In this song a section of the songs lyrics are "Ain’t no sunshine in the nation Only darkness all day." It talks about darkness, which relates to depression. Romeo is depressed because he loves Rosaline, but she does not love him. In lines 132 to 135 in Act 1 Scene 1, Montague discusses how during the day and night, Romeo keeps his curtains closed, which isolates him from the world.

Title: So Happy Together

I chose So Happy Together by the Turtles, because it shows the feelings that Romeo has when he talks to Friar Lawrence in the garden after he talks to Juliet all tonight. In Act 2 Scene 2 Line 53 to 55, those few lines explain how Romeo loves Juliet and Juliet loves Romeo. This is also shown in the lines "The only one for me is you and you for me" This line also goes into the Prologue when it talks about star-crossed lovers.

Title: Why Can’t We Be Friends

This song was chosen to relate to the scene with Mercutio and Tybalt fighting in the streets. Romeo gets there in the middle of their quarrel and tries to stop it. He says, "Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee. Doth much excuse the appertaining rage to such a greeting. Villain am I none. Therefore farewell; I see thou know’st me not." Lines 61 to 64, Act 3 Scene 1. Romeo tries to bargain with Tybalt to stop fighting, because they have to become friends. The chorus in this song is "Why can’t we be friends". I chose it because Romeo is asking Tybalt this in their dialogue.

This song is for when Romeo discovers that Juliet killed herself. ON eof the lyrics in the song is "I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter" That relates to the play, because Romeo was so much in love with Juliet, meaning he got so far, but because she killed herself it didn’t matter. So he killed him self.

Title: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

This song is about two lovers that are separated, but want to be true to each other. The lyrics are, "Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wide enough from keeping me to getting to you babe." This is just like when Romeo is banished from Verona and goes to Mantua. Lines 51 and 52 in Act 3 Scene 5 has Juliet asking Romeo if they will ever meet again Romeo replies, "I doubt it not" which means I doubt anything can keep us apart.

"Thought that I was going crazy, just after one of those days yeah, didn’t know what to do then there was you." This is a lyric from the song. I chose this song, because it’s meant from the costume party at the Capulets house. These words can’t relate to any text, but you get a hint from the dialogue between Romeo and Juliet. The Line is meant for Romeo, because nothing was his way until he was Juliet.

This song relates to a lot of different parts in the play. For example, you can relate it to the part where Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris, but she says no and he says yes. But I chose this song for the end of the balcony scene when they say goodbye a numerous amounts of time. From this song it says, "Hello, Hello, Hello, I don’t know why you say Good bye I say hello." Every time Romeo or Juliet says good-bye for whatever reason it is they always end up saying something to each other that makes the ant to stay for another few minutes when they get to see each other.

One of the more heart braking moments in Romeo and Juliet is the night they have relations, but Romeo must leave Verona and go to Mantua, because he was banished. "Here’s to the night we felt alive, here’s to the tears you knew you’d cry, here’s to goodbye tomorrows here to soon." This is the chorus in this song. This song relates to line 36 Act 3 Scene 5 "More light and light; more dark and dark our woes" says Romeo. It says that the morning is coming and that he ahs to leave.

This song is mean for when Benvolio and Mercutio are talking to Romeo about going to the Capulets party. "I bless the day I found you and that’s my word It’s nothing for me out there in those streets. You took my hear and you set it on fire and now my love forever burns Your keep taking me higher" At the party Romeo sees Juliet and that is what the above quote is for. Lines 85 to 87 in Act 1 Scene 2 Benvolio says, " Go thither; and, untained eye Compare her face with some that I shall show, and I will make thee think thy swan a crow.: They say that if he looks at more girls then Rosaline won’t look as great.

"Well I guess it would be nice if I could touch your body" says the song. This relate to when Romeo jumps over the orchard wall into the Capulets yard. There he sees Juliet speaking to herself. He talks about how he would like to be her hand so that he could touch her cheek. Romeo is in a river of love, but this before "The river becomes an ocean" this is another lyrics from the song. It says that he is so full of love that his river is becoming an ocean.
