Smokey Girl
January 1993 - December 2002

Young Smokey
Smokey Girl was only a few months old when my mother found her. A tiny, shy kitten, she was all alone on the streets. When my mother's cat wouldn't accept a newcomer, we brought Smokey to our home in the country.

This is her chair. It took a year of coaxing to get her to sit in my lap. But she would hop up in this chair whenever she wanted to be brushed or petted. Years later, she would finally enjoy sleeping in my lap.
This was our favorite time together.

Dirt Girl
Every morning, Smokey would hop down from her bed to visit with me. As I watered the plants, I would let water run down the sidewalk so she would have a puddle to drink from. She much preferred drinking from puddles than drinking from her water bowl.

Then she would go to her favorite spot by the barn where there is dirt.
She loved to roll in this spot of dirt!

Smokey with armadillo
We see lots of different critters on our property. We were out walking one day and saw this armadillo. I asked Smokey to wait while I got the camera...and she did!

Smokey with toy
In the house, her favorite toy was this feather-on-a-stick.
Outside she was fearless, but in the house she was scared of everything and couldn't stay more than an hour. Even during storms, she would prefer the noisy metal barn to being in the house.

Smokey dressed up
She made many friends on the internet and enjoyed all of the clubs she joined. You can visit her club pages by clicking here.
I thank everyone who invited her to their parties. I hope you all know how much she enjoyed your friendship.

Levi's Tribute
Thank you, Levi, for making this special framed photo.
She would love all the flowers.

Hugo
Hugo is such a handsome tom.
It's no surprise that Smokey was swept off her paws by him.

Hugo, your little sötnos will always love you.

Smokey Girl
Smokey is the sweetest kitty I've known.
Shy as she was with others, she was always happy to see me and my husband. Her favorite treat was yogurt and she would dance and sing for it. She hated being taken to the vet, but was always the perfect patient. And once she was home again, she never held a grudge.
She loved to follow me everywhere, especially when I was fertilizing the plants with fish emulsion :-)

I will never forget the feel of her soft fur or the sound of her purr.
She will live in my heart forever.
