While we don't have any Colonel Mustards or Mrs. Greens, we do have candlesticks, rope, and a bunch of other artifacts lying around. We also have a large assortment of plays (180+): some we've performed, others we haven't. Below is an alphabetical list of the plays SMUDS has in its Library. It not only contains the title (obviously) and author, but the genre (drama, farce, etc.), number of acts (for those who are "length adverse") and the male/female compliment* of the play.
All individual plays are shelved alphabetically in the office. Other plays, which are parts of a collection of an author (such as the complete works of Anton Chekov) are listed in the index as individual plays, but are shelved (alphabetically, by the title of the compilation) at the end of the collection. Notations have been included to indicate if the play is a part of a compilation.
Also shelved seperately is
a small assortment of reference books on lighting, costume design etc.,
as well as a few works of fiction, all of which are easily adaptable for
the stage (...like, whose got time for that?).
*NOTE: Gender compliments marked with a "+"; (i.e. female actors = 5+) means either there are more parts available; several parts can be taken on by one character, or; gender swapping can easily occur (for example, if the play occurs in the present day, a police officer could easily be played by a female).
To download the below chart into Microsoft Excel 2002 (if you want to sort by genre, number of female parts, etc.), right click HERE and select "save as..." (It may then be sorted by genre, cast compliment, etc. using the sort feature). Please note:
While many of the plays indicate their
genre, many do not. Every attempt has been made to ensure the information
is accurate. Where the genre has not been stated in the script itself,
publisher catalogues have been utilized to gleen information (such as Dramatists
Play Service, and Samuel French). These are, of course, only effective
if the plays were published by companies large enough to have a catalogue.
If genre details were still unavailable, I got the information from a web
site (and we all know how accurate they always are...).
