SMUSC Executive Meeting - 13 January 2006 - 5th Floor Student Center
Minutes
Proceedings
Discussions were mostly on the
questionnaire that we filled out (see attachment). A survey of the members
sailing experience and what they want from the Club, directions. It may appear
that the Club is race driven but that is not the focus at all, we want to be
wide open and inclusive. Chris Hurst(VP) is a Tall Ships person, maybe there are
keel boat types as well who have never ever been in a dinghy and then there are
the students who have an interest in sailing but have no idea where to start or
what to ask.
Also mention during the meeting was a need for volunteers to help with the
Societies Expo in February. Ryan Kelly has a stack of sailing pictures, a
collage as a back drop. I'm also chasing after a ESPN video shoot from
Intercollegiate Team Races that was done last fall to run at the table. We hope
to have 5 prototype T-shirts to show off at the Expo.
A call on the Club members to volunteer, identify an area of expertise. We need
help in formation of committees to address things like Transportation, Sponsors
(Financial ideas), Social activities, etc. etc. etc.
Ryan Kelly did a talk on the Spring Clinic, we will survey the Club members to
see who needs a CYA upgrade and what levels they want to upgrade.
Katie, Chris and I did a spiel on ourselves, I am a Club member in the Club's
Afterguard. An "Alumni" classification that is made up of graduated students and
persons wanting to be involved with the Club.
