Below you will information on the topics we cover in class.  Use the information on these pages to help you review the topics.
PROBABILITY
Probability is the likelihood that something will occur.

Probability can be expressed as a fraction, decimal, or precentage.

Probability is generally expressed as a fraction, then the fraction is changed to a decimal, and then the decimal can be changed to a percentage.

Probability =
the number of favorable outcomes
                       the number of possible outcomes

Example:   In my drawer I have 9 pair of socks.  Two (2) pair are red, three (3) pair are blue, and five (5) pair are black.

       a.  What is the probability that I will pull out a red pair?

       Probability(of pulling out a red pair) =
the number of red in drawer
the number of socks in drawer

                                            P (red)    =
      2
                                                                   9
       b.  What is the probability that I will pull out a black pair?

       Probability(of pulling out a red pair) =
the number of black in drawer
the number of socks in drawer

                                            P (red)    =
     5
                                                                    9
