Outside With The Kids

A day with you is a day times two;
In twice the joy Im reveling.
You skip with me, hands held tightly,
wind-swept hair disheveling.

Well do it all--the bike with a fall,
getting up and trying again.
Such as it goes, highs and lows;
Lows get you to where you begin.

Come rain or shine; a dollar, a dime;
well cover what resources allow.
Its you, its me, what else do we need?
What we have right here and now.

Outside we scream, spill our ice cream
without a care or worry.
If you scrape your knee, count on me,
Ill come running in a hurry.

Butterflies to chase, dirt on our face,
a roll down the grassy hill--
It will be sublime, though were out of time;
the clock says what we never will.

Authors Comment ~ This poem was written for the kids I care for in my
childcare business. We have such a great time outside! Children have so
much to teach us about life, and they all (especially my own) are a
constant source of inspiration.
