About Me |
I got my first rabbit when I was in first grade, a Netherland Dwarf from a pet shop. I first got into showing rabbits about 5 years later in 2001. I showed Bugzy (the ND), and planned on showing Cody, a Holland Lop I just bought that year. Cody followed me around the house and had the best personality I've ever seen in a rabbit. I loved him soooo much... Unfortunatley, he passed away soon after we bought him (plant poisoning from one of our house plants he nibbled on...). I was crushed, but my parents said I could get another bunny. I don't think anything could ever replace him, but the hole in my heart his loss caused is finally starting to heal. He was a gift from god, and we were blessed to have him for the time we did. There's Cody! I'll never forget you, I'll love you forever. I went to "Rabbit fun day" through 4-H. There a Jersey Wooly breeder was raffling off a trio of Jersey Woolies. I read the information on the breed, and became very interested in them. That night I went searching on the internet. I was looking under a breeder's directory for Jersey Woolies and found the name of the lady that had raffled the trio. I decided to e-mail her and tell her about my interest in Jerseys and breeding. After talking, she said that if I could convince my parents, she would give me a pregnant doe to take care of until it had it's babies and they were weaned. At that point I would chose one baby to keep and give the rest of the litter and the mom back to her. My parents agreed to this and I was extremley excited. Me and Crystal! The doe she gave me was a ruby-eyed-white (REW) by the name of Crystal. Unfortunatly, the babies were stillborn, though seeing it was the Crystal's first litter it wasn't unusual. Even though the litter didn't survive, I learned a lot and would be more prepared the next time around. Later that summer I bought a Jr. Smoke Pearl Marten doe from Teresa and Anna Wooden (the same breeders that got me started with Crystal) and I named her Promise. I picked this name because in the dictionary the definition was "indication of future excellence or achievment". I knew she would be a great bunny to start out my Jersey Wooly experience with and she has proved me right so far by getting all firsts in wool and BOSG at my first show. As I go to more shows she continues to do well and is now a Grand Champion. I'd like to thank Teresa and Anna so much for all their help and support and highly suggest you visit their web site which is on my Links page (Brightside's Jersey Woolies). My gratitude goes to them for all their help. Thanks Teresa and Anna! My herd is very small, but is gradually increasing as litters snuggle in cozy nest boxes and I fall in love with for sale bunnies that I just have to have!. I plan to find a career in animal husbandry, and love that I can get some early experience in breeding and raising animals. I suggest this hobby to anyone that has the time and committment for it. The excitment and joy that each litter and show brings is something so wonderful, words can't even begin to describe it. |
