My real name
is Norma; I
was born on Sugar Hill, Pa. to John and Jessie
Woodruff. I am the youngest of 6 children (3 boys &
3 girls). My father was killed when I was 1 & 1/2
years old, when a team of horses bolted and he was
thrown off the wagon. My mother died when I was 13
yrs. old so I lived with my older brothers and
sisters. I graduated from Wyalusing Jr. - Sr. High
School in Wyalusing, Pa., in 1951. Then I moved to
N.J., where I worked as a waitress and later as a
short order cook in a diner.
It was there that I met
and married my first husband; we had 3 girls & 1 boy.
We later divorced, I remarried and had 3 more girls.
That is how I became known as Snow White & 7
Dwarfs.
In 1979, I went to work
for a bottle factory called Midland Glass in
Cliffwood, N.J.; it later changed to Anchor Glass. I
retired from there on January 1, 1996. In 1994, I
purchased a small mobile home in Camptown, Pa., where
I grew up; that is where I now live. Our town is
noted for Stephen Foster's song, "Camptown Races".
Each year they have a 5K race and other activities
throughout the day. I enjoy bowling, feeding the
birds, spending time with my family, and going to Pa.
High School Rodeo with my niece. She is known as
"The Rodeo Grandma". I like all kinds of birds, but
the cardinal is my favorite. I have many
collectibles of them that have been given to me as
gifts. Cardinal tee and sweat shirts are also a part
of my wardrobe.
Another
collection I have, I really did not choose. It
started from me receiving a small pink pig scouring
pad holder from Terry, one Christmas. I commented on
how cute it was. The others then found pig things to
add to it; the pigs became my kitchen theme.
There is quite a large collection of different ones
now including a cookie jar, beanie pigs, burner
covers, pictures, spoon rest, napkin holder, and many
others. When you say you like something, you never
know what it may bring.
Two
cats: Stripes, a white and orange-striped tiger who
is 11 years old and Boo-Boo, a 6 year old grey and
white have completed my household until recently. A
few weeks ago, a very friendly black/grey tiger cat
started hanging out on my screened-in porch. I do
not think she is a stray, but she has decided she
wants to live with us. I have been watching the
paper and a bulletin board on our neighborhood store,
to see if someone may have lost her. Nothing has
shown up yet so I have a third cat and I call her
Lady Bug. Boo-Boo is not happy she has invaded her
domain. She
fights with her every time she goes outside. Old man
Stripes just ignores her and goes on his way.
UPDATE: Stripes became very sick and I had to have him put to sleep on 06/29/04 so he would not linger and suffer longer. On 02/19/05 Lady Bug lost her battle with a disease that cats can get from rodents. My daughter Nancy in Sc found she was allergic to cats so I brought her Quincy here to live with me and BooBoo has never really accepted him and swats at him when he passes by or gets near her. UPDATE ` Nov ~ 07: Since my sister Leola had kept a stray cat that was dropped when pregnant and had a litter of 6, which we found homes for, when she died her grandson took the cat into his home. However in 05 he also died from an incurable virus and his mother asked if I would take the cat. I did & named her Mitzy since neither of them had really named her. She will not accept my Quincy & BooBoo so I had to put a barrier to divide my home and she stays in that section & they are free to go inside or out as they always done.
