MP3 player software that can be used to run
a standalone player:

MPXPLAY

This a DOS based player. Has keyboard and joystick control built in, spectrum
analyzer and many other cool features.
It also provides basic LCD output for which no graphic card is needed.
Displays song name and artist on a 2 row LCD
I tested only 2x16 size.

ADD-ONS for MPXPLAY

This one has everything a man will ever need :-) IR control, supports any serial or parallel LCD,
can display spectrum analyzer, and any of the info
that is displayed on the monitor when MPXPLAY runs.
Intended to be used for car players.
Completely user configurable :-)

MLT

This is a TSR which grabs info from the MPXPLAY screen output and sends it to a LCD connected to parallel port.
Sizes supported are from 2x16 to 4x40.

MLTEXT

Another version of MLT... this time with some other features added :-)

IR. control software

This can be used to control your player with any RC5 compatible remote control.

Irdos.zip

To use it you need the IR. receiving unit

ELMP

This is a linux based player.
Supports parallel LCD's and IR. Requires custom built pcb for keyboard IR. control via micro controller

MP3MAN

Linux based player which comes as a CD boot image.
Supports simple LCD output with songnumber, artist and title, doesnt need graphic card, supports many sound cards.
This is a good choice to make a cheap player with only motherboard/sound card CDrom
