Central Florida's Weather

Florida Weather is never boring...

Since Florida weather changes each hour, you always need the most up to date information...well, I have found two wonderful tools for doing just that!

THE WEATHER BUG

This software gives you up to the minute weather, temperature, precipitation, radar, and even weather alerts.

INTELLICAST

Intellicast provides you with desktop dopler radar, and two alert icons. One for severe storm warnings, the other for tropical activity. The website provides numerous weather features, but the one that I use most is the Metro Storm Loop radar. It shows me -exactly- where the thunderstorms are, which way they are traveling, and whether they contain hail, or tornadic potential.

HURRICANES

Hurricanes are my "trade" for winter's snow and ice so, when one comes along, I like to track them. If you need to do the same or have an interest in hurricanes, check out these two links.

This is an excellent link for storm prepartions, and when a Tropical storm begins to grow, it has what I feel to be the best information, and timely posting of coordinates for tracking. They'll even e-mail you coordinates of current storms.

Tracking The Eye

Tracking The Eye has been completely rewritten using the latest Microsoft .NET Technologies. Tracking The Eye now has a high resolution world map, zoom in and zoom out capabilities, with over 20,000 pre-populated cities. With this new version you can even get a satellite photograph of the buildings or houses that the storm is passing over.

The newest version of Tracking The Eye is now available!

Storm Preparedness for Pets

Storm preparedness applies to pets, too

Pet owners, start thinking now about getting your pets ready for hurricane season. Answer yes or no to the following statements:

If you answered 'no' to any of these, you're not ready. Use this checklist as a guide to prepare:

2006 Atlantic Hurricane Names

Here are the names for the 2006 Hurricane Season. I will try and keep this section updated as each storm forms with their beginning and ending dates and their storm status ie. Tropical Storm (TS) or Hurricane (H), also their landfall location if necessary.

2006 Names:

History in the Making

What happens when we have more storms form than we have names on the annual list? We answered that question last year as we had a record breaking year of storms with 28 named storms 15 of which were hurricanes We used the Greek alphabet to name the storms after we ran out of names on the annual list. Will we once again have to use the Greek Alphabet to name storms,or will there be a separate list of names?

Of Personel Note:

We learned many things in surviving the storms of 2004, the most important being, BE PREPARED! Don't wait to buy supplies, don't wait to board up, and most of all BE PATIENT. Remember, it only takes ONE hurricane to land in your neighborhood to make it a bad hurricane season.
