Blair's mother, Addie, is a mentally challenged woman who was raped by an attendant in the mental institution she resided in. Addie's sister, Dorian Lord, believed her sister was dead and had no idea she was in a mental hospital, let alone pregnant. After her birth, Blair was shuttled between various foster homes, but once she turned eighteen, she had her mother released into her care. Upon arrival in Llanview, Blair quickly got a job at The Banner where she crossed paths with Cord Roberts. There was an attraction between the two, and even though they kissed, Cord remained true to his wife Tina. Soon after, Blair met Max Holden and sparks ignited. Things got complicated when Blair met the very rich Asa Buchanan. Determined to marry him and get a share of the Buchanan Dynasty-as well as use Asa's money to get legal guardianship of Addie--Blair worked her wiles on Asa and kissed him in the Buchanan stables. Renee Buchanan witnessed the kiss, and eventually divorced Asa as a result of the fallout. Despite her attraction to Max, Blair got Asa to marry her, and soon after obtained legal guardianship of her mother. However, Blair and Max made love on Blair's wedding day! Blair also had revenge in mind when it came to her aunt Dorian, whom she blamed for Addie being forced to live in a mental institution, as well as Blair's own foster upbringing. Not revealing her identity, Blair tricked Dorian into signing a document that implicated her (Dorian) in Victor Lord's death. Blair blackmailed Dorian into making her editor-in-chief of Dorian's newspaper, The Intruder. Dorian soon discovered that her sister Addie was alive and that Blair was her niece. Dorian explained to Blair that she believed Addie was dead and had no idea of her existence. Blair slowly began to build a relationship with Dorian. Asa wanted a child, but Blair did not. She did anything she could to avoid intimacy and faked a difficult pregnancy to get out of sleeping with him. After a fall, Blair's scheme was almost revealed, but Blair managed to convince Asa and the doctors that she had a hysterical pregnancy. While in the hospital, Asa helped Dorian win custody of Addie in order to send her to St. Ann's, a veritable treatment facility. Furious when she found out, Blair screamed at Asa, revealing that she was never pregnant and that she slept with Max on their wedding day! A seething Asa divorced Blair, leaving her with nothing. An attempt to win back Max failed. After moving to Florida for a few months, Blair returned and was determined to win Max back. Completely obsessed with Max, Blair preyed on his gambling addiction in order to get closer to him and drive him away from his wife Luna. Eventually the two began a sexual relationship, which drove Luna to leave Max. After Blair accidentally hit Max's son Al with her car, Max was shaken into reality and returned to Luna. Completely depressed, Blair attempted suicide in an effort to get Max back. Cord saved her, and it was enough to make her realize that she had become completely obsessed and delusional in her behavior with Max. Blair and Cord began dating. It was around this time that Blair first met Todd Manning, and the two struck an unlikely friendship-and a simmering attraction. After a fight with Cord, Blair slept with Todd. Cord and Blair reconciled, but his constant interaction with ex-wife Tina prompted Blair to end the relationship permanently. Blair soon put various pieces together and realized that, unbeknownst to him, Todd was Victor Lord's son, and thus entitled to $27.8 million dollars. With dollar signs in her eyes, as well as a need to keep Addie in care at St. Ann's (Dorian had disappeared, thus meaning no funds for Addie's stay), Blair schemed to marry Todd. Blair lied and told Todd that she was pregnant off their one night stand. Todd proposed and the two were married. Blair realized that she really needed to be pregnant and seduced Todd once again. Todd discovered that he was Victor Lord's son and Blair "convinced" him not to give up his fortune. His sister Tina warned Todd that Blair only married him for his money. Todd demanded a paternity test from Blair and both were shocked when it revealed she really was pregnant! After misconstruing some information, Todd confronted Blair on whether she still had feelings for Cord. This lead to a huge argument between Todd and Blair, after which Blair was mugged and miscarried. After briefly leaving Todd (who was in love with Blair by this point), Blair returned to Todd determined to use their marriage as a means to prove herself to the people of Llanview. Todd declared his love for Blair and they attempted to have another child, with Blair developing real feelings for Todd. In a business war with Blair, Max discovered that Blair had lied about her pregnancy in order to marry Todd. Max told Todd, who went ballistic and wanted to end their marriage. Blair was shocked to discover that she was pregnant again just as Todd annulled their marriage. Their strong feelings led to reconciliation. Blair revealed she was pregnant and Todd asked her to remarry him. The two were married for the second time. Shortly afterward, Todd traveled to Ireland to bring Marty Saybrooke back to Llanview to visit with a dying friend of hers. He was seemingly killed in a convoluted plot by Irish Terrorists who were trying to kill Marty and her lover Patrick Thornhart. Blair was devastated and she accused Marty of Todd's death. After a confrontation with Marty, Blair went into premature labor and gave birth to her daughter, Starr. Wanting revenge against Marty, Blair decided to seduce Patrick. Blair truly grew to care for Patrick, who got close with Blair after Marty married an injured Dylan Moody. Patrick and Blair made love and began a relationship, but Blair's heart remained with Todd. Unknown to either of them, Todd was alive and spying on Patrick and Blair! He was so hurt that he engineered a kidnapping of Starr, but eventually Marty convinced Todd to return her. Todd eventually revealed himself and Blair declared her undying love. Disgusted over Patrick and Blair's relationship during his "death," Todd told Blair he wanted a divorce. Blair managed to convince Todd of her love and the two grew close, but Blair then found out that Todd was responsible for Starr's kidnapping. Her anger thwarted any plans for a future together. Things got worse when Blair discovered that she was pregnant with Patrick's child. Todd and Blair began a bitter custody suit over Starr. The two were brought closer together when Starr developed aplastic anemia. Blair's unborn son was a perfect match to donate bone marrow to Starr, but before anything could be done, Blair lost the baby in an auto accident (the driver responsible was Blair's cousin, Kelly). Starr was saved by another donor, while Blair went to Philadelphia for an extended recuperation. At the same time, Todd blamed Patrick for Blair's accident and framed him for Guy Armitage's murder. When Blair found out she was furious and initiated divorce proceedings, then had a stroke. Todd's lawyer, Tea Delgado, told Todd that his chances for getting custody of Starr would be stronger if he was married. Todd quickly divorced Blair and married Tea! He soon got custody of Starr as Blair was still recovering from her accident. Blair came back determined to exact revenge on Todd. Blair targeted billionaire Ian Armitage, whom Kelly also wanted, leading the two cousins to clash. Ian chose Kelly. After his subsequent death, Blair schemed to steal Kelly's inheritance from Ian, but her conscience got the best of her. Max and Blair began dating again. After Todd was accused of raping nurse Barbara Graham, Blair realized she was the only one that could provide Todd with an alibi. At first threatening Todd to give her back custody of Starr, Blair finally realized she wanted Starr to have a father above all else, and provided Todd with an alibi that cleared him. This warmed the relationship between Todd and Blair somewhat and he hired her to work for him at his newspaper, The Sun. Blair soon found out that Max only began dating her again because Asa paid him to spy on her! Furious, Blair broke up with him, despite Max's pleas that he was in love with her. On the rebound, Blair had a fling with lawyer Sam Rappaport. Max attempted to win Blair back by blackmailing her, threatening to tell Sam that Blair had evidence (a tape recording) that Todd was faking Dissociative Identity Disorder in order to avoid conviction (Sam told Blair honesty was the most important thing to him). Blair, who had fallen in love with Sam, schemed with Todd to get said evidence away from Max. Eventually, Max gave her the tape out of true love for Blair. Through various circumstances, the tape was played at Todd and Tea's vow renewal and Todd was forced to flee town. Sam was disgusted thatBlair knew about Todd faking his multiple personalities, and broke off with her. Eventually, Max got Blair to forgive him and the two reunited. After realizing that Asa and Renee had a long lost son, Blair helped Max scheme to convince the two that HE was their long lost child. Eventually, Max and Blair got married as well. Through a complicated series of events, Max began to have to fake brain damage in order to keep the ruse of being Asa's son up. Blair went along with the charade, but then discovered that Max had cheated on her with Skye Chandler. Blair vowed revenge and created a computer program that she planned to use to expose Max's scheme of being Asa's son. Max and Blair managed to reconcile, but newly returned Todd showed Max what Blair planned to do with the computer program. Furious, Max slept with Skye. Blair caught the two in the act, and in a moment of pure rage, shot Max. Todd helped Blair cover up the crime and frame Skye. The two reaffirmed their love for each other and planned to remarry. Max and Blair got divorced, and Blair exposed Max's true identity to Asa. Out for revenge, Max drugged Blair and had Todd witness him in bed with Blair. Furious, Todd revealed Blair as Max's shooter at their wedding ceremony. Blair was arrested and in an effort to get Max to testify on her behalf, Blair lied to Max and said she was pregnant. She was shocked when she discovered she really was pregnant. Max agreed to testify on Blair's behalf, but was detained by Starr at the last minute. Instead, Todd testified that Blair had experienced temporary insanity when she shot Max. Todd's testimony ended up helping Blair get off for the crime, except for a short stint at St. Ann's. Believing she was carrying Max's child, Blair planned to marry him but soon realized the baby was Todd's. Blair contemplated whether to tell Todd the truth. Traveling to Mexico to have the baby, Todd showed up and was forced to deliver Blair's son. Thinking it was Max's, Todd paid off David Vickers to find the baby a home. Todd then told Blair the baby had died. Distraught, Blair eventually confessed to Todd the baby was really his. Unknown to her, Todd went off and found their baby. He brought the child to Llanview, where he told Blair that it was a baby that needed to be adopted. Blair fell in love with the little boy, whom they named Jack. Todd and Blair remarried and prepared to raise little Jack. When Jack developed aplastic anemia (just as Starr had as a baby), Sam put the pieces together and proved to Blair that baby Jack was actually her son-the baby never died and Todd lied to her. Disgusted, Blair barred Todd from seeing his children. Todd attempted to kidnap the kids in Hawaii, but ended up stranded on a deserted island. During his absence, Blair divorced Todd again. Todd returned to town and Blair struggled with her feelings for him. After Jack's nanny, Suzanne, was killed by a mafia hitman following a story Blair did on the mob, Todd was there to protect her. During this time, the two grew close and Blair realized that, despite his past misdeeds, she really loved Todd. Just as they planned to remarry, Sam (who had been suspicious of Todd) showed up at the wedding with a very much alive Suzanne-her death had all been a plot on Todd's part to win back Blair's affections. Blair told Todd she never wanted to see him again. Mitch Laurence returned to Llanview and made an enemy of Blair when he kidnapped Starr in an effort to get to Todd. He also seemingly killed Todd. Walker Laurence, Mitch's estranged brother, came to Llanview a few months later and immediately struck up a friendship with Blair. Blair found herself drawn to him, and gave him a job as a reporter for The Sun. When Mitch was murdered, Blair was a suspect in the crime, but eventually she was cleared of any wrongdoing. Walker and Blair fell in love, while Starr remained suspicious of the new man in her mother's life. Eventually Walker revealed to Starr that he was Todd, having returned to town with a new identity to win back Blair. An unaware Blair agreed to marry Walker and the two wed. Blair discovered that Walker was really Todd and swore revenge. After confronting Todd with the truth, she slept with Kevin Buchanan. A furious Todd confronted Blair and the two had a sexual encounter. Blair claimed Todd raped her, while Todd maintained it was consensual, but rough, sex. Blair had Todd arrested and their marriage annulled. Todd was brought to trial and found guilty. The verdict crushed Starr, who told her mother she hated her. Soon after, Blair, who had been suffering from terrible head pain, collapsed. She was diagnosed with a specific type of brain tumor, one that can alter perception and cause mental confusion. After successfully removing the tumor, Blair began to wonder whether her memories of her encounter with Todd were accurate. She soon came to realize that her encounter with Todd was not rape, and dropped the charges against him. However, they were a long way from reconciliation. On a mother/daughter trip to New York, Blair was horrified when Starr went missing. She informed Todd of the situation and he immediately came to her aid. After some investigating, it became clear that Starr had left with a young boy named Travis whom she'd met on the internet. Todd and Blair worked together to get their daughter back, but the situation became dire when Starr was kidnapped by a young thug looking for ransom money. After a dangerous showdown in Central Park, Todd and Blair were elated to have their daughter back safe and sound. While the pair grew closer through their ordeal, Blair was still hesitant to attempt a relationship. Starr attended a dance at the community center and a fire broke out. Todd heroically entered the burning building to save his daughter, but was trapped inside. When Starr was found safe, Blair rushed into the community center to rescue Todd. The traumatic event made Blair realize how much she loved Todd, and the two quickly reconciled. Eventually, they were engaged. Margaret Cochran, an unbalanced Buchanan Enterprises employee, began to wreak havoc in Todd and Blair's life. Todd had previously wooed Margaret in an attempt to bring Kevin down via insider information. Margaret was furious when Todd and Blair reunited, and tried to convince Blair that she was having an affair with Todd. Blair didn't believe her. After she kidnapped baby Ace Buchanan and was caught, Margaret was sent to a mental institution. While looking over legal documents from Blair and Asa's divorce, Todd noticed a clerical error that gave Blair legal ownership of Asa's land. They were overjoyed, and proceeded to oust Asa and move into his house. Asa, however, did not take this lying down and forced Todd and Blair out with a loaded gun. Later, Blair had a heated confrontation with Asa. During the argument she hit him over the head with a candlestick, and accidentally knocked him out. She called Todd in a panic, and together they drove Asa out to the woods, and left him there. Asa made his way back to Llanview and shot Todd. Todd survived, but Blair, sick of the fighting, forced Todd to drop the war with Asa. Blair and Todd made plans for a glorious wedding, but Blair was devastated when Todd disappeared on their wedding day, leaving only a note that claimed he could not go through with their nuptials. Unbeknownst to Blair, Todd was actually kidnapped by an insane Margaret and held captive in an isolated cabin, where Margaret promised to not release him until he impregnated her. Blair managed to put the clues of Todd's kidnapping together, and set out to find where Margaret was keeping Todd. She tracked them down, but Margaret knocked her out and locked her in the trunk of a car. Todd struggled to escape and find Blair, who was battling claustrophobia and the cold. Unbeknownst to Blair, in an effort to save her Todd agreed to sleep with Margaret. Blair realized the car she was trapped in was being towed to a car crusher. With the help of the LPD, Todd tracked down Blair but did not arrive in time to stop the car from being crushed. Blair was presumed dead, and the Manning family was devastated. When the police discovered that Blair was not in the trunk of the car, Todd was certain she was still alive. All were surprised when Asa organized a search for Blair, and Todd was the first to grow suspicious of his motives. Todd was right to be skeptical, because Asa had found Blair, and had her committed to an insane asylum. Todd threatened Asa's life, and Asa finally revealed Blair's whereabouts. Blair's sanity was fading fast due to her captivity, and Todd finally found her on the ledge of the hospital, ready to jump. Todd made his way to Blair, and tried to bring her back to safety. In a leap of faith, the pair jumped off the building together, and went unharmed. The Manning's were reunited, but their happiness was short lived. The trauma of Margaret's captivity had negative effects on both Todd and Blair. Todd was unable to be intimate with Blair, and secretly tried to cope with the aftermath of his rape. Blair repeatedly had hallucinations of Margaret, and grew frightened in confined spaces. Regardless of her own issues, Blair knew things with Todd were amiss and enlisted Kelly to discuss the matter with Kevin. At the same time, Blair discovered that Todd had bugged the Buchanan Enterprises office, and was able to listen in on Kevin and Kelly's conversation. While eavesdropping, Blair learned that Margaret had raped Todd. She confronted Todd with the information, and he was immediately enraged. When Todd was finally able to face Blair, she comforted him and promised they would survive Margaret. Blair was upset to learn that Margaret may be pregnant with Todd's child, but Todd assured her that was impossible. The two finally made love. Blair had another scare when her son Jack fell ill, and needed a tracheotomy. Spencer Truman, the new doctor in town, performed the procedure and saved Jack's life. Blair was extremely grateful, and the two formed a friendship. Todd was tentative to trust Dr. Truman, but Blair found him harmless. Despite their differing opinions, Todd and Blair's relationship remains stronger than ever. But a pregnant Margaret remains an ever present threat.
