Brooke and Diego hit it off, and began dating. Brooke was supportive of Diego's desire to find his family, and blew off her singing career to help him. The pair embarked on an adventure to Mexico. While there, Diego soon learned that Maria, the woman he had grown up thinking was his sister, was actually his mother. Maria was upset to learn that Diego was living in Port Charles and wanted him to leave town as soon as possible. Brooke and Diego soon realized that the reason Maria wanted Diego to leave town was because his father lived in Port Charles…Lorenzo Alcazar. Diego was stunned to learn that the notorious mobster was his father. Brooke encouraged Diego to develop a relationship with his father, but soon became uncomfortable with how quickly his lifestyle began to change. She was unnerved by Diego's interest in material things, and his sudden change in appearance. Diego ensured Brooke that nothing had changed, but she knew otherwise when he took an interest in Maxie Jones. Initially, Diego denied an attraction, but when Maxie went missing in a hurricane Diego confessed he had feelings for her. Brooke was devastated, and broke up with him.
