During her teenage years, Dorian believed her sister Addie had died, when in reality she had been shipped off to a mental institution. Dorian arrived in Llanview in 1973 along with her mentally ill sister Melinda. Obtaining a job at Llanview Hospital, she quickly began an affair with married doctor Mark Toland. Unstable Melinda wanted Mark for herself and schemed to make sure her sister never had him. After attacking Mark, Melinda was sent to a mental institution. Dorian and Mark continued their affair. After an intense fight one day, Dorian made a careless mistake on a patient's chart, resulting in the patient's death. Fearing for her career, Mark helped Dorian cover the error up and Dr. Larry Wolek was arrested instead. Her guilt plaguing her, Dorian wanted to confess, but fell down a flight of stairs and became comatose. Upon waking, Dorian confessed and the hospital board decided to fire her. Dorian blamed Viki Lord Riley, a prominent member of the board, for the decision to terminate her. Swearing revenge on Viki, Dorian felt luck was on her side when she became the private physician to Viki's ailing father, Victor Lord. With dollar signs in her eyes and revenge in mind, Dorian got Victor to marry her, despite Viki's protestations. Dorian soon learned that Victor had a son, Tony, who recently arrived in Llanview. With Tony and Victor unaware of their relation, Dorian schemed to keep the two at odds in an effort to ensure that Tony not be named in Victor's will. Despite her efforts, Victor soon learned that Tony was his son and suffered a heart attack upon learning that Dorian knew the truth. Desperate, Dorian kept Victor isolated from his family so as to not damage her standing in Victor's eyes any further. Soon, Victor died under mysterious circumstances and Dorian gained control of the Lord estate. Their rivalry further fueled after Victor's death, Dorian still wanted to destroy Viki. To that effect, she made a play for Viki's husband Joe. Dorian told Joe that he was responsible for passing on the hereditary heart condition that his daughter Megan suffered from, a secret Viki was keeping from Joe. This bombshell strained Viki and Joe's relationship, allowing Dorian to grow closer to Joe. Dorian soon discovered Joe had a brain tumor, and lied to Joe, telling him that he was experiencing blackouts (as a result of the tumor) during which he got violent. She convinced Joe to leave Viki, for Viki's own good. However, Dorian didn't expect Joe to get wise to her scheme. He swore he wanted nothing more to do with her. Dorian set her sights on Dr. Peter Janssen, but Melinda returned to town and fought her sister for Peter's affections. Dorian soon became a TV talk show host, stealing "View on Llanview" away from its original hostess, Pat Ashley. After a brief affair with newcomer Clint Buchanan, Dorian was furious that he left her for Viki. Soon after, Dorian met Herb Callison. Knowing Herb (Llanview's D.A.) had a good shot at the Governor's office, Dorian began an affair with him. Herb proposed and Dorian accepted. She took over as Herb's campaign manager, and obtained an illegal campaign contribution from Asa Buchanan in exchange for helping Asa win a construction contract. Herb won the race and Dorian became Pennsylvania's first lady. Their victory was short, however, as the scandal involving Herb's illegal campaign contributions forced him to resign. Dorian's daughter, Cassie, arrived in Llanview. The result of an affair with concert pianist David Renaldi, Cassie was taken away as a baby by David and raised in Europe. The relationship was strained at first, but eventually Cassie and Dorian grew to love each other deeply. Dorian entered into a partnership with Asa mining for the ore Solaramite. Bo Buchanan, who sought revenge on his father Asa at the time, stole some vital information on the project from Dorian. Dorian blamed Herb, which led to a separation. Things became even more strained when Dorian tried to convince Herb to have their marriage annulled, as a clause in Victor's will was uncovered that gave Llanfair (the Lord mansion) back to Viki if Dorian remarried. This only angered Herb further, and Dorian was soon kicked out of Llanfair. David Renaldi came to Llanview. Furious with David over his previous abandonment of her, Dorian tricked him into signing a document that barred David from taking over Cassie's inheritance if something were to happen to Dorian. David's past as a spy was revealed, and Dorian got sucked into a plot by David's enemies to seek revenge on him. Dorian worked with David and the FBI to stop the plot against David, and found herself growing close with her ex-lover. Herb and Dorian were on the verge of reconciliation, but that was shattered when Dorian realized that she wanted to be with David. However, David had made plans to marry Jenny Janssen. Dorian did her best to break up Jenny and David, even claiming to Jenny that David has pushed her down the stairs, resulting in her temporary paralysis (in actuality, Dorian had fallen after a fight with David's ex-business associate). Dorian told Jenny that if she didn't marry David, Dorian wouldn't go to the police. To save her fiancée, Jenny told David she couldn't marry him. Jenny left town, while Dorian kept secret that she was no longer paralyzed, in an effort to gain David's sympathies and grow close with him. Dorian's schemes were soon discovered and David was free to marry Jenny. Making matters worse, Herb and Dorian officially divorced. Dorian began a romance with blue collar Harry O'Neill. Class differences caused a strain between them, but they continued to see each other. Soon, Harry began an affair with Niki Smith, one of Viki's alternate personalities. Dorian schemed with Tina Clayton to find out who the other woman was. Infatuated with Niki, Harry dumped Dorian. Dorian was saved from an attacker by private investigator Jon Russell, and soon began a relationship with him. Herb wanted to reconcile with Dorian, and battled Jon for her affections. When Dorian was stalked by her make-up man on her talk show, Jon and Herb both worked to save her. Dorian told Herb that she wanted to only be friends, and continued her relationship with Jon. After cult leader Mitch Laurence drugged Cassie and attempted to rape her, Dorian killed him. She was arrested and sent to prison for murder, but a tape of the crime soon proved Mitch was killed in self defense and Dorian was freed. Dorian invited a former cellmate, Diane Bristol, to live with her. Cassie was suspicious of Diane and with good reason-Diane was transporting drugs! Dorian refused to listen to Cassie's suspicions, causing a strain between mother and daughter. Cassie and Jon began working together, and soon romantic feelings developed between them. Dorian discovered the truth about Diane (after Diane attempted to kill her), and about Jon's feelings for Cassie. She dumped Jon and left Llanview to become Ambassador to Mendorra. Dorian returned to Llanview in 1990, having lost the Ambassadorship. Her rivalry with Viki continued, as Dorian exposed Viki's alternate personality, Niki, as the party responsible for killing mobster Johnny Dee, forcing Viki to resign as mayor. Dorian also teamed up with Alex Olanov to keep Cassie from dating Bo (Dorian didn't approve). Dorian helped Alex fake a pregnancy, and they claimed Bo was the father. Eventually the truth came out, and despite initial anger, Cassie reconciled with her mother. Dorian began a relationship with much younger Jason Webb. Eventually Dorian's controlling ways caused Jason to dump Dorian. She concocted various schemes to get him back, but none worked. Dorian received a shock when a mysterious young woman, Blair Daimler, revealed herself as Dorian's niece. Dorian received a further shock when she learned her sister Addie was alive! Blair had come to Llanview to seek revenge against Dorian, whom she blamed for her mother's languishing in a mental institution. Dorian convinced Blair that she genuinely had no idea Addie was alive, and the two formed a bond. Around this time, Dorian also learned she had breast cancer. Fortunately, she was able to treat the disease in time and went into full remission. Viki's new lover, Sloan Carpenter, was writing a biography on Victor Lord and in it alluded to the possibility that Dorian had killed Victor. Determined to save her name, Dorian persuaded Llanview University student Emily Hayes to accuse Sloan of sexual harassment. Dorian's scheme was exposed, and Cassie (who had always supported her mother), lashed out at Dorian. The stress, combined with a fall down the stairs, led to Cassie giving premature birth to little William Carpenter, who died only hours later. Cassie's husband Andrew blamed Dorian for his son's death. Inspired by Sloan and his book, Viki brought a lawsuit against Dorian, accusing her of killing Victor Lord. Dorian was brought to trial and found guilty of killing Victor. Sentenced to death row, things looked grim until mysterious David Vickers, who was claiming to be the Lord heir, showed up and revealed a diary entry of Victor's that stated Irene Manning (mother of Victor's daughter Tina) killed Victor. Dorian was released, and David revealed himself to Dorian as a fraud-he was hoping to get money out of her. Dorian paid him $50,000 for his services and agreed to help him keep up his scheme of pretending to be the Lord heir. Furious at Viki, Dorian set out to seduce her college aged son Joey. The two became lovers, and Dorian found herself developing real feelings for Joey. Viki was furious to learn of the liaison. With David's scheme as Victor's heir coming apart (and Dorian's role in it threatening to be exposed), Dorian planned to leave town. Viki confronted her, and in a heated confrontation, Dorian revealed that she knew that Victor had molested Viki as a child. Viki, who had repressed these memories, couldn't deal with this information and reverted to an alternate personality. She kidnapped Dorian, forced her to break up with Joey via letter and held Dorian captive for weeks. Eventually Viki (still controlled by her alternate personalities) released Dorian, but threatened to kill her unless she married David (in an effort to keep him away from Tina). Dorian was forced to comply, an action that sounded the death knell for her relationship with Joey. Eventually, Viki (controlled by one of her alternate personalities) was revealed as the party responsible for killing Victor Lord. Dorian wanted to divorce David, but he loved living the luxurious Cramer lifestyle. Dorian sought to prove David an adulterer, and soon found him in bed with her niece Kelly. Further determined to get David out of her life (to protect Kelly as well), Dorian schemed with Blair to make it appear as if Blair slept with David. Dorian had photographs taken, and Todd Manning (Blair's husband and the true Lord heir) published them in the newspaper. With enough ammunition for divorce, Dorian ended her marriage with David (but not before one last lovemaking session on the living room floor). With the situation with Viki's kidnapping of Dorian, and subsequent forced marriage to David, revealed, Dorian attempted to reconcile with Joey. However, Dorian saw that Joey was falling for Kelly, and did not reunite with "her Joe." Dorian traveled to Washington D.C., where she met journalist Mel Hayes in a bar. The two began an affair, and Mel moved to Llanview with Dorian. Mel fell in love with Dorian, but felt she was keeping a secret about her past. He investigated, and soon learned that Dorian, along with Melinda and Addie, had been severely abused while growing up. Dorian had even seen her mother kill her father. Cassie was interested in getting to know her grandmother, Sonya, but the latter wanted nothing to do with her. Dorian came upon Sonya attacking Cassie. Dorian hit her mother over the head with a lead pipe, killing her. With help from Mel, Dorian was able to put her painful past to rest, and married Mel. Dorian and Mel began to clash over what he saw as her constant interference in the lives of her "girls"-Cassie, Kelly and Blair. After a particularly bad fight, Mel left for a business trip with Viki. On the plane, he switched seats with Viki. Dorian, feeling guilty after her fight, wrote Mel a note to apologize, begging him to get off the plane. Viki (in Mel's seat), got the note, misinterpreted, and got off the plane. Soon after, the plane crashed, killing Mel. Dorian, grief stricken and furious, blamed Viki and kidnapped her. Viki understood her grief, and the two made peace (at least temporarily). Dorian accidentally hit Jessica, Viki's daughter, with her car. Fearful that no one would believe it was an accident, Dorian called an ambulance but fled the scene. As a result of the accident, Jessica lost the baby she was carrying. Lindsay Rappaport was blamed for the crime and seemed poised to go to prison. Jessica then remembered that it was Dorian who hit her. Despite her guilt, Dorian never went to prison for the crime because her associate, RJ Gannon, bribed the judge. Jessica, hurt and furious with Dorian, began "haunting" Dorian in an attempt to drive her crazy. Jessica was prepared to run down Dorian with her car when she realized how far she had taken her actions. Jessica forgave Dorian. Soon after Dorian left Llanview to travel around the world with Drake Faraday, an old friend of Mel's. Her time away from Llanview remains shrouded in mystery. Learning that Mitch Laurence was really alive and had inherited Victor Lord's estate, she returned to Llanview and convinced Mitch to marry her. Viki and the rest of Llanview were disgusted with Dorian. Dorian, however, had a plan in mind-she wanted revenge on Mitch for hurting Cassie years earlier, as well as his inheritance from Victor (including the expensive Badhra diamond). David Vickers returned to town also looking for the diamond, and he and Dorian found themselves clashing. However, a simmer of attraction underscored all their interactions. Dorian schemed to put Mitch in jail, but he was soon murdered. At first considered a suspect for the crime, she was eventually cleared, and inherited her husband's estate. However, a judge overturned this ruling, granting Viki all of Victor's estate. Dorian moved back into her old home (which she christened "La Boulaie") and began a relationship with David. The two soon were engaged. Dorian's Aunt Betsy came to Llanview and revealed to Dorian that she was dying, and wanted to leave her $30 million fortune to a female Cramer who had never been married or had children. Dorian schemed with David to prove Adriana Colon, goddaughter to her longtime friend Carlotta Vega (and paramour to Dorian's adopted grandson River), was her long lost daughter in an effort to get the money. To that effect, Dorian told Adriana that she was her biological mother and invited her to move into La Boulaie. Betsy fell for the scheme and named Adriana as her sole heir. Betsy soon after died in David's arms. After receiving a mysterious letter, Dorian began to act strangely around David. As he pressured her on their wedding date, Dorian revealed that she couldn't marry him-because she was still legally married to crime lord Manuel Santi. Dorian told David that while she was Ambassador of Mendorra, she had begun an affair with Manuel. The two were married, but Manuel turned out to be jealous and possessive. Dorian thought she had annulled the marriage, but it had never been processed. Another startling secret came out when she revealed that Adriana was actually her biological daughter. Dorian had left Manuel years earlier when she discovered she was pregnant, fearing Manuel would be a dangerous presence in Adriana's life. Carlotta Vega (Manuel's sister) arranged for Adriana to be raised by loving adoptive parents in Puerto Rico. Manuel soon died and Dorian officially annulled the marriage. After a private flight they were on crashed, Dorian and Viki found themselves stranded in a remote cave. As the two battled the elements, they hashed out their tumultuous history and seemed to put their differences behind them. They were soon rescued. Viki discovered that she needed a heart transplant, and Dorian proved to be a source of support. With Viki's life in the balance, Dorian discovered that Viki's comatose husband Ben was a perfect match. At Ben's bedside, Dorian confided to him about Viki's condition, and prayed for his help. Shortly after, Ben flat lined, and his heart was used to save Viki's life. Dorian was shocked when Viki offered her the position of Chief of Staff at the Hospital, overseeing all administrative aspects of the facility and its staff. When Dorian and David later learned that Aunt Betsy's inheritance tanked in the stock market, they decided to go after the Santi millions left behind after Manuel's death. It was discovered that three pieces of jewelry previously given to Dorian, Carlotta, and Adriana were engraved with a combination to a safe. David and Dorian joined her nephew Paul Cramer in Puerto Rico in search of the money. Unfortunately, they were led astray and never found their fortune. Shortly after, Paul was murdered and the murder weapon was planted in Dorian's office. Dorian was arrested for the crime and David gave a false confession to get her off the hook. Both their names were cleared in the crime, but the damage was done to Dorian's career, and she was fired as Chief of Staff. Dorian blamed Viki for losing her job, and vowed revenge. She began a plan to frame Viki for misappropriating funds, making it appear as if Viki was supplying The Banner with funds from Llanview University. Shortly after, Viki stepped down from her post as LU president. When Blair went missing after a prolonged search for her fiancé Todd, Dorian put all her energies into searching for her-even if it meant teaming up with Viki. She was ecstatic when Blair finally made it back to Llanview, but blamed the Buchanan's for her disappearance. Dorian made it her mission to keep the Cramer women away from the Buchanan men, but compromised her relationship with David in the process. David quickly felt neglected and begged Dorian to focus her energy on their upcoming marriage. When Dorian was unable to do so, David broke up with her and moved out. Dorian resolved to get over David, but after some time apart she swallowed her pride and the two reunited. Dorian promised to focus more on their romance and less on the love lives of the Cramer women. But now that David's brother and eligible bachelor Spencer Truman has come to town, will Dorian be able to keep her nose out of David and Spencer's past?
