Now wed to her for more than 15 years, there's been only one man he couldn't keep her away from - her bastard son, Nikolas Cassadine. Luke came to Port Charles in 1978 to help his sister, Bobbie, break up Laura Webber and Scotty Baldwin. A year later, after Laura married Scotty, Luke had his way with her on the floor of the Campus Disco. In 1981, after beating both the mob and the evil Cassadine clan, Laura and Luke married. After Laura disappeared in 1982, Luke became involved with con artist Holly Sutton. In 1983, Luke was reunited with Laura, who told him of her experiences as the kidnapping victim of the Cassadines. Some 13 years later, Luke found out the part of the story that Laura didn't tell him - that she had borne her captor-husband, Stavros, a son, Nikolas. In his youth, Luke Spencer was a dangerous man. He'd do just about anything to turn a buck, even if that meant doing dirty work for the mob. Being a husband to Laura and a father to Lucky and Lesley Lu has changed Luke, but not for the mellower. If anything, now he's more dangerous than he ever was. There's more than his life at stake - lives that he considers far more precious than his own. In 1978, Luke came to Port Charles at the behest of his sister, Bobbie, who needed his help separating the object of her affection, law student Scotty Baldwin, from his girlfriend, Laura Webber. Although Bobbie never landed Scotty, she definitely had gone to the right person for assistance. After Laura married Scotty in 1979, she and Luke became friends while she worked for him at the mob-run Campus Disco. The night before he was to perform a mob-ordered hit - a suicide mission - he acted on his strong feelings for Laura and, despite her protests, had his way with her. It wasn't until 1980 that Laura admitted that she cared for Luke - and that she always had. When Scotty broke up Luke's wedding to mob princess Jennifer Smith, he and Laura went on the run from her father, Frank. After Laura divorced Scotty and Luke had saved the world from being frozen by madman Mikkos Cassadine, the couple finally became husband and wife in 1981. That same day, Mikkos's widow, Helena, cursed them. Only a year later, Laura disappeared in the fog on the docks of Port Charles and was presumed dead. Despondent, Luke went camping and met Holly Sutton, an English con artist. Their affair ended that same year, after his back was broken in an avalanche and he allowed her to think he had died. By the time he walked back into Holly's life in 1983, she had married his best friend, Robert Scorpio. That same year, Luke was elected mayor and was reunited with Laura, who wasn't dead at all! When her abductor, Stavros Cassadine, Mikkos's son, followed her to Port Charles, he was killed in a scuffle with Luke. The bad blood between the Spencers and the Cassadines continued to boil. In 1993, Luke and Laura returned to Port Charles with their son, Lucky, after hiding out from Frank Smith for years. When Frank finally was killed in a shoot-out in Puerto Rico in 1994, Luke opened a blues club with Frank's former front man, Sonny Corinthos. Later, Lucy Coe became his partner. Luke was none too pleased in 1996, when Stefan Cassadine, Stavros's brother, arrived in Port Charles with the solution to his and Laura's problem. Their daughter, Lesley Lu, was desperately ill and needed a bone marrow transplant. The only compatible donor seemed to be Stefan's nephew, Nikolas - the son Laura never told Luke that she had borne Stavros! Some thought Luke's unwavering hatred of the Cassadines was unfounded, but he was right to be suspicious. He had Laura banish Stefan and Nikolas, but just before they were to leave Port Charles, General Hospital was closed. Stefan would save it, he said, only if Laura would allow him and Nikolas to stay. He won that round, but the war was far from over. Stefan attempted to take over the world, by trying to introduce a computer virus into the world's financial systems. Luke, however, managed to stop Stefan's agenda. In order to maintain a peaceful existence for his family, Luke made sure that Stefan did not know that he was the one who had foiled his plans. Despite the various victories on both sides, the Spencer/Cassadine feud will rage on until the last day Luke draws breath. Since the presumed death of Luke and Laura's son Lucky, Luke has not been the same. After discovering that Lucky did not die in the fire, he went in pursuit of his son with the aid of Felicia Scorpio. Felicia and Luke had befriended each other and Felicia wanted to help Luke find Lucky. Because Laura was in the midst of a love affair with Stefan Cassadine, Luke really had no one else to turn to. So Luke and Felicia went on a mission to find Lucky. They were successful in discovering that he was still alive, but were not been able to bring him home. Luke would not rest until his son was brought back to Port Charles. After seeing Lucky with his own eyes, Luke told Laura that their son was alive. Luke and Laura then set off to find Lucky on their own and bring him home. Luke and Laura's journey first led them back to Ice Princess Island and Laura wasn't pleased when Felicia joined them on their search. After being led a on a tour through their shared past by Helena, Luke and Laura were finally reunited with Lucky at the Triple L diner. Laura's joy at finding Lucky alive was cut short when he hauled off and slugged Luke. Lucky then took off and Luke and Laura were dismayed by his behavior. Luke returned to Port Charles and made several attempts to reach out to Lucky, who continued to reject him. Luke told Laura that they couldn't recapture what they once shared and he continued his close friendship with Felicia. Luke and Felicia came close to making love in his club, but Felicia pulled back at the last moment. Luke and Felicia weren't able to stop thinking about each other, however, and finally gave into their passion and made love. Luke teamed up with Nikolas to get information on how to reverse Lucky's programming. He found out about Helena's secret laboratory and discovered her son Stavros was in fact alive and she had kept him frozen all these years. Helena forced Lucky to inject Luke that caused him to feel confusion about what year he was living in and where he was. When he was brought out of his haze, he wanted to permanently take down Helena and Stavros. He went to Helena's lab and attacked Stavros and ultimately he was able to push Stavros down into a big pit. Helena was arrested and the Cassadine and Spencer war was finally put to rest. Luke wanted to have Laura permanently back in his life and he asked her to marry him again. But they had a problem when love struck Jennifer Smith showed up and kidnapped Luke. With Roy and Felicia's help, Laura tracked him down and rescued him. When Carly was presumed dead and then discovered to be alive, he investigated who was behind the body double. It turned out Helena had escaped from prison and was responsible. Luke tracked down Helena and had her shipped to a convent in the Arctic Circle. Luke and Laura continued to try to plan their second wedding. Laura started having strange memories of Rick Webber. It turned out he had an affair with a woman named Teresa. Luke found a camera and when he got the pictures developed he saw pictures of a young Scott Baldwin covered with blood. The night of their rehearsal dinner, Laura confronted Rick and ended up killing him. Luke feared for Laura's life and knew that she was not in her right mind when she killed Ric. So he took the rap for the murder and Laura was sent away to London for treatment. Luke escaped from police custody and tried to visit Laura in London. But Lucky and Elizabeth found Luke and dragged him back home to Port Charles. Feeling guilty for what happened to Laura, he tried to punish himself by trying to get arrested, even going as far as trying to set the police department on fire. Fortunately for him, Lucky saved him from himself. Luke started seeing a mysterious blond, Summer who resembled Laura. He would catch glimpses of her and even rescued her from being hit by a car. The problem was that no one else saw her and he started to think he was imagining this woman. Summer told Luke she was a former call girl. He then hired her to reenact moments he had with Laura. He began to care about Summer, but was surprised to find out she had been dating Lucky simultaneously. Luke was even more shocked to learn that Nikolas had actually hired her to distract Luke from going after Laura. Luke, Lucky, and Nikolas all went on an adventure to help Summer find her brother Matt, but she had deceived all of them. Matt was actually Summer's ex-boyfriend looking for the Cassadine coins. Luke ended up beating all of them to the treasure and discovered the coins were all fakes. Luke was accused of pushing Summer off a cliff causing her death. Luke knew that Stefan was guilty and decided to hold a mock trial with all of the suspects where he found Stefan guilty. Luke and Stefan had their final showdown at the same cliff where Summer died. Stefan framed Luke for his death when he impaled himself and fell to his death. Luke was arrested again, and fled to Skye Quartermaine's house. Luke wanted to get some money to run away so he set his sights on the Dead Man's Hand cards. The cards were auctioned off at a Halloween party, but the room filled with gas and a mystery person stole the cards. Luke found a new project when the boat Haunted Star came into the Port Charles Harbor. He became interested in running a casino out of the boat. He wanted to have the Dead Man's Hand cards as good luck on the boat and end up finagling them from Sam McCall by dressing up as a homeless man. Luke teamed up with Skye to run the casino. Luke found a stash of money which turned out to belong to Faith Roscoe. So Luke was forced to let her in on the casino. When Luke and Skye were caught in the Port Charles Hotel fire, they realized how much they had begun to care for each other. Skye started being stalked by a mysterious blond woman. She was even framed for killing a cop. Both Luke and Skye believed Laura was setting Skye up. But Luke knew that Laura is very sick and would not intentionally hurt anyone. So, he set off to find Laura but was kidnapped and drugged by the mysterious blond who turned out to be Heather Webber. Skye was found guilty of killing Ross the cop, but Heather was the person responsible and had set Skye up because she was jealous of Luke's feelings for Skye.
