Newborn Todd was adopted by Peter and Barbara Manning, Irene's brother and sister-in-law. Barbara left her family when Todd was nine, leaving her son to be raised by the abusive Peter. After graduating high school, Todd enrolled in Llanview University, where he was the star football player. He joined a fraternity, where one of the brothers was Kevin Buchanan. Todd had a one night stand with Marty Saybrooke, but she rejected him the next day. Todd still pursued her, but Marty did not give in to his advances. When Marty got drunk at a party, Todd, along with some other fraternity members, raped her. Marty eventually reported the rape and Todd was arrested. Placed on trial, Todd hired Nora Gannon to defend him. Nora believed in Todd's innocence and nearly won the case-until another woman, Carol Swift, revealed that Todd had raped her as well. Disgusted, Nora caused a mistrial. A furious Todd declared revenge on Marty. He cornered Marty and Luna Moody in an alley and threatened to rape both of them. Luna fought back and scarred Todd's face. Powell, Todd's fraternity brother, witnessed the incident and told the police. In addition, Marty managed to trick Todd into confessing to the rape, which she tape recorded. Todd was sent to jail, determined to get revenge on Marty, Nora and Powell. In prison, Todd met Rebecca Lewis, an evangelist who often visited the prisoners. Todd decided to use Rebecca to escape from prison and gain revenge on his enemies. As the two talked more and more, Todd found himself falling in love with Rebecca. Todd soon escaped from prison and convinced Rebecca to hide him out. Todd stalked Nora, who had gone blind, and threatened to rape her. Nora managed to hit him over the head and call the police, but Todd escaped before police officer Bo Buchanan could arrive. Todd sought emotional solace with Rebecca, who could only see the good in him. Marty, along with her boyfriend Suede, found where Todd was hiding. Todd confronted and taunted Marty and got into a fight with Suede, which resulted in Suede being thrown against a wall and suffering a fatal head injury. A desperate Todd kidnapped Rebecca. Despite having feelings for him, Rebecca got word to the authorities where she was. After a struggle with Bo and Powell, Todd was shot, fell into a river and presumed dead. Todd was, in fact, alive and hid out at Llanfair where he befriended Sarah and CJ Roberts. Determined to win Rebecca back, Todd was disgusted to find that she had started dating Powell. Todd visited Rebecca, who rejected him and told the police he was still alive. While avoiding the authorities, Todd began stalking Rebecca but was eventually caught. On the way to Statesville prison, the prison van was involved in a car accident. Todd saw that the other car carried Marty, CJ and Jessica Buchanan. Todd pulled them from the wreckage, saving their lives. Todd was thrown in prison, where he contemplated suicide. With the help of therapy, Todd began to realize the extent of his crimes and felt true remorse for them. The governor felt that Todd's rescue of Marty, C.J., and Jessica was an act of heroism, and issued him a full pardon. Todd still had feelings for Rebecca, who was now engaged to Powell. Their frequent run-ins revealed that Rebecca cared for Todd, but she was determined to honor her commitment to Powell. Todd was soon accused of raping an acquaintance, Alice. Rebecca believed Todd's claims of innocence, even when a second woman was attacked and Todd was fingered. Rebecca and Todd grew closer, but eventually Rebecca pulled away, claiming Todd was no good for her. Rebecca was attacked soon after, and fingered Todd for the crime. Todd, however, had an alibi-he was seen by Marty at the time Rebecca's attack occurred. After much deliberation, Marty came forward and presented Todd with an alibi. Determined to prove who was behind the other rapes and attempting to frame him, Todd was shocked when he found out Powell was the culprit. Todd tracked Powell, who had kidnapped Rebecca. Todd exchanged himself for Rebecca, and then struggled with Powell, who was arrested. Rebecca, traumatized over the events of the past few months, left town. Todd apologized to Marty for all of the past hurt he caused her. Todd befriended Blair Cramer and had a one night stand with her. Todd had begun to develop feelings for Blair, but she was committed to Cord Roberts. Around this time Peter Manning passed away, and in a letter revealed that Todd was adopted. Con man David Vickers found out that Todd's biological father was Victor Lord. As such, Todd was worth $27.8 million dollars. Blair soon discovered this (prompted by her love of money and need to pay for her mother's medical care) and lied to Todd, telling him she was pregnant. Todd wanted to do the noble thing, so he married Blair. Soon after, he learned the full truth about his heritage. Tina, Todd's biological sister, was convinced that Blair was lying about the pregnancy and put enough seeds of doubt into Todd's mind that Blair was forced to take a pregnancy test-which (to Blair's shock) revealed she really was pregnant! Todd and Blair's marriage was calm for a while, until Todd overheard a conversation that led him to believe Blair was still in love with Cord. Furious, Todd confronted Blair and the two had a huge fight. Blair took off and was mugged, which caused a miscarriage. Despite this painful event, the two reconciled and were deeply in love. Todd soon discovered from Max Holden that Blair had lied when they first got married-she was never pregnant. Furious, Todd got an annulment, not knowing that Blair was now pregnant again. Blair finally revealed she was pregnant, which led to a reconciliation and remarriage between the two. Todd found out a dear friend of Marty Saybrooke's was dying. Marty was in Ireland, so Todd traveled there to bring her back. In Ireland, Marty confessed to Todd that her lover, Patrick, was being hunted by Irish terrorists. Todd agreed to pose as Patrick in order to help Patrick escape. Mistaken for Patrick, Todd was shot by the terrorists and presumed dead. Todd did not die, but was nursed back to health by an Irish fisherman and his family. He returned to Llanview only to witness Blair making love with Patrick (unknown to Todd, as part of a revenge scheme against Marty). Todd debated leaving town, but Viki introduced him to his daughter, Starr. With Blair still not aware he was alive, Todd kidnapped Starr. Marty eventually convinced him to return his daughter, and Todd made his presence known to the people of Llanview. Blair was ecstatic, but Todd remained cold to her, the image of Patrick and Blair still in his head. Eventually Blair revealed she slept with Patrick while Todd was "dead," but Todd didn't come clean about kidnapping Starr. Blair soon found out the truth, and coupled with the news that she was pregnant with Patrick's baby, any hope of reconciliation between Todd and Blair was shattered. Starr developed aplastic anemia, which caused a temporary truce between Todd and Blair. Blair's unborn child with Patrick was the only available donor to help Starr, but a car accident caused Blair to lose the baby. Blaming Patrick, Todd sought revenge by framing him for Guy Armitage's murder. When Blair found out she was so furious she divorced Todd, then suffered complications from her injury which put her in a coma. Fearful that the divorce meant he'd lose Starr, Todd consulted with his lawyer, Tea Delgado, who informed Todd that being married with a stable home life would help get him custody of Starr. Todd offered Tea $5 million to marry him and she accepted. The two were soon wed, and Todd got custody of Starr while Blair was recovering from her accident. Todd and Tea began to slowly fall in love. Blair, meanwhile, was not happy with the arrangement and wanted Todd's marriage destroyed. When Todd was once again accused of rape, this time by Nurse Barbara Graham, Blair was the only one that could provide him with an alibi. She provided the alibi and cleared Todd, leading to a warmer relationship between the two. Todd became a suspect in the murder of Georgie Phillips. Realizing he was about to be arrested, a desperate Todd called all the murder suspects together and held them hostage, revealing dynamite strapped to his chest. He wanted the real murderer to confess. Eventually Rachel Gannon admitted to the murder and the dynamite was revealed as fake. However, the police wanted Todd for holding everyone hostage. After a brief time on the run, Todd was caught and placed on trial. His lawyer, Sam Rappaport, learned that Todd had been abused by Peter as a child. Before he could introduce this to the court, Todd collapsed and soon began faking DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) in order to get off of the charges. He continued the charade of multiple personalities for months, fooling almost all of Llanview. Blair had managed to get a tape recording of Todd admitting he was faking DID, which ended up in Starr's hands. She accidentally played the tape at Todd and Tea's renewal of vows. Despite trying to get Tea to come with him, Todd was forced to flee town. Tea soon divorced him. Todd kept his eye on Tea, who had begun to date RJ Gannon. Furious, Todd tried to kill RJ but was unsuccessful. Todd made himself known to Tea and asked for a second chance. She agreed and the two left town. Todd returned a few months later, Tea having left him. With the hostage charges dropped, Todd re-entered Llanview society. He and Blair grew close and Todd once again developed feelings for her, which Starr encouraged. After Blair shot Max in a fury, Todd helped her cover up the crime and frame Skye Chandler. In the process, the two fell back in love and agreed to remarry. However, the night before the wedding, a vengeful Max drugged Blair and made it appear as if they slept together. Furious, Todd revealed at their wedding ceremony that Blair had shot Max and had her arrested. Not wanting Blair to go to jail, Todd agreed to help her get off. Todd testified on Blair's behalf and claimed she was temporarily insane when she shot Max. Blair got off. Blair discovered she was pregnant-with Todd's baby. Fearful that Todd would take the baby away, she told him it was Max's. Todd was furious. Blair left for Mexico to have her baby, but Todd followed her. Alone in a house in Mexico, Todd delivered Blair's baby. Believing it was Max's and having fallen back in love with Blair, Todd paid David Vickers to give the baby away. He told Blair the baby had died. Todd and Blair grew closer and Blair finally confessed that the baby she lost (or so she thought) was really Todd's. Shocked, Todd scrambled to get the baby back. He found his son living with a wealthy couple in Texas. After getting the baby, Todd presented it to Blair as an abandoned child, and told her he wanted to be a family with her. In love with both Todd and the baby, Blair accepted and the two married. They named their son Jack and Todd scrambled to make it appear as if adopting Jack would be legitimate. Jack developed aplastic anemia (just as Starr did as a baby), Sam Rappaport put the pieces together and proved to Blair that baby Jack was actually the baby she believed had died. Realizing Todd lied to her, Blair banned Todd from seeing the children and divorced him. While Blair and the kids were in Hawaii, Todd attempted to kidnap them but was thwarted by Tea (who ran into Todd on the island). Various circumstances resulted in Todd, Tea and a man named Ross being stranded on a deserted island. Todd and Tea were tempted over lingering feelings, but Todd eventually built a raft and left the island. Todd was picked up by a ship and returned to Llanview. Despite all his lies, Blair still cared for Todd and struggled with her feelings for him. After Jack's nanny and Blair's friend Suzanne was killed by a mafia hitman following a story Blair did on the mob, Todd protected her. Blair slowly realized that, despite his past misdeeds, she loved Todd. Just as they were about to remarry, Sam showed up with a very much alive Suzanne. He revealed Todd had been behind the supposed "hit" in an effort to win back Blair's affections. Disgusted, Blair told Todd she never wanted to see him again. Todd attempted to reconcile with Blair but she wanted nothing to do with him. The vengeful Mitch Laurence kidnapped Starr in order to get back at Todd (who had threatened Mitch over the latter's plot against Todd's family). Blair exchanged herself for her daughter, and Todd soon rescued his ex-wife from Mitch. Just as it seemed Blair was warming up to Todd, he disappeared. It appeared as if Mitch had him killed. In reality, Mitch had Todd beaten severely and left at the side of the road. Todd was rescued and brought to a local hospital to recuperate. While there, Todd conducted research and learned of Mitch's brother Walker (known as Flynn) Laurence. Todd paid Flynn for information on Mitch. Todd had extensive plastic surgery to physically resemble Flynn. He returned to town claiming to be Walker (Flynn's real name), whom Mitch believed dead. No one in town knew his true identity. While appearing to be Mitch's ally, Walker worked against him to protect Blair and his niece Jessica from Mitch's wrath. When Blair was suspected in Mitch's murder, Walker helped to clear her. Blair found herself falling in love with Walker and the two married. Todd/Walker confessed his true identity to a suspicious Starr. Blair learned that Walker was really Todd. She was furious at being deceived by Todd again. The two had an encounter on New Year's Eve which Blair claimed was rape, while Todd was adamant they had rough, but consensual, sex. Blair, who had annulled their marriage, charged Todd with rape. He was arrested, found guilty and sent to jail. Soon after, Blair, who had been suffering from terrible head pain, collapsed. She was diagnosed with a specific type of brain tumor, one that can alter perception and cause mental confusion. After successfully removing the tumor, Blair began to wonder whether her memories of her encounter with Todd were accurate. She soon came to realize that her encounter with Todd was not rape, and she dropped the charges against him. However, the couple was still a long way from reconciling. On a mother/daughter trip to New York, Blair was horrified when Starr went missing. She informed Todd of the situation and he immediately came to her aid in New York. After some investigating, it became clear that Starr had left with a young boy named Travis she'd met on the internet. Todd and Blair worked together to get their daughter back, but the situation became dire when Starr was kidnapped by a young thug looking for ransom money. After a dangerous showdown in Central Park, Todd and Blair were elated to have their daughter back safe and sound. While the pair grew closer through their ordeal, Blair was still hesitant to attempt a relationship. Travis soon came to Llanview for summer camp, and took Starr to her first dance at the community center. The dance was interrupted by a fire, and Todd heroically entered the burning building to save his daughter, but was trapped inside. When Starr and Travis were found safe, Blair rushed into the community center to rescue Todd. The traumatic event made Blair realize how much she loved Todd, and the two quickly reconciled. Just when things seemed to finally quiet down for the pair, Todd and Blair were plagued by the machinations of deranged Buchanan Enterprise employee, Margaret Cochran. Todd had previously wooed Margaret in an attempt to bring down his rival Kevin Buchanan. Margaret was left rejected when Todd and Blair reunited, and tried to convince Blair that she was having an affair with Todd. Matters were further complicated when Blair's cousin Kelly claimed that Todd was the father of her son Ace, as a way to maintain custody of the baby. Todd knew how Kelly illegally procured the baby and confided this in Blair. She agreed to keep the secret of Ace's origins. A delusional Margaret kidnapped Ace, and made believe he was her child with Todd. Todd was able to track down Ace and Margaret was committed to St. Anne's hospital. Todd and Blair were stronger than ever. When Starr's classmates began harassing her about Todd's illegitimate child, Blair was furious. She was determined to tell Kevin the truth about Ace's paternity, but Todd was more than happy to do so himself. He took great joy in telling his longtime rival that Ace was not his, nor Kelly's, baby. Todd and Blair aspired to gain respectability in Llanview, so that Starr would never be teased again. Their first plan was to live in one of the most coveted homes in town: Asa's mansion. While looking over legal documents from Blair and Asa's divorce, Todd noticed a clerical error that gave Blair legal ownership of Asa's land. They were overjoyed, and proceeded to oust Asa and move into his house. Asa, however, did not take this lying down and forced Todd and Blair out with a loaded gun. Blair had a heated confrontation with Asa and during the argument, hit him over the head with a candlestick, and accidentally knocked him out. She called Todd in a panic, and together they drove Asa out to the woods, and left him there. Asa made his way back to Llanview and shot Todd. Todd survived, but Blair made Todd halt his feud with Asa by not pressing charges (in exchange for Asa doing the same with Blair and Todd). Todd and Blair prepared to remarry. Right before the ceremony, Todd was confronted by a recently released Margaret (wearing a wedding dress). Margaret shot Todd in both legs, and forced him to write a note to Blair explaining he could not go through with the wedding. Margaret took Todd to an isolated cabin where she tied him to a bed, and revealed she would not let him go until he impregnated her. Todd unsuccessfully tried to escape Margaret's clutches several times. Blair became convinced Margaret kidnapped Todd and eventually tracked him down. Margaret took Blair hostage and locked her in the trunk of a car, threatening Todd that Blair would die from hypothermia unless Margaret got pregnant. With no other option to save Blair, Todd had sex with Margaret. Believing that she was not impregnated, Margaret trapped Todd in the cabin with a ticking bomb and left town. Shortly after she discovered she really was pregnant with Todd's child. Luckily, Todd was able to escape from the cabin right before the bomb exploded. He struggled to get back home to Llanview, and was found by longtime enemy Kevin Buchanan. Kevin agreed to take Todd home and Todd begged him to help find Blair. During their search, Todd confessed to Kevin that Margaret forced him to sleep with her, in order to save Blair's life. Todd regretted his blurt, but Kevin agreed to keep his secret. With the help of the LPD, Todd was able to track down Blair to a junkyard, where the car she was trapped in was going to be crushed. Unfortunately, Todd arrived too late and Blair was presumed dead. The Manning family was devastated by the loss. When the police discovered that Blair was not in the trunk of the car, Todd was certain she was still alive. All were surprised when Asa organized a search for Blair, and Todd was the first to grow suspicious of his motives. Todd was right to be skeptical, because Asa had found Blair, and had her committed to an insane asylum. Todd threatened Asa's life, and Asa finally revealed Blair's whereabouts. Blair's sanity was fading fast due to her captivity, and Todd finally found her on the ledge of the hospital, ready to jump. Todd made his way to Blair, and tried to bring her back to safety. In a leap of faith, the pair jumped off the building together, and went unharmed. The Manning's were reunited, but their happiness was short lived. The trauma of Margaret's captivity had negative effects on both Todd and Blair. Todd was unable to be intimate with Blair, and secretly coped with the aftermath of his rape. In an effort to regain control of his life, Todd concentrated on tracking down Asa and punishing him for what he did to their family. Blair overheard Kevin admitting to Kelly that Todd was raped. Blair confronted Todd with the information, and he was immediately enraged. When Todd was finally able to face Blair, she comforted him and promised they would survive Margaret. Blair was upset to learn that Margaret may be pregnant with Todd's child, but Todd assured her that was impossible. Todd himself remains wary of Margaret's return and any strangers that come into their lives. When the new doctor in town, Spencer Truman, saved the life of their son Jack, Todd was immediately distrustful. While he continues to be protective of his family, his relationship with Blair has gotten back on track. The two finally made love, and plan to marry in the near future. But a pregnant Margaret remains a looming threat.
