Sweden Vs Argentina

Sweden and Argentina were the last 2 teams who could make the final playoff positions, although both needed victories, Argentina by 5 goals. They got the first of the 5 with 2 minutes left in the first half, Fernando Redondo crossing for Claudio Lopez’s headed finish. Sweden’s chances were all but buried in the 65th minute when Ariel Ortega burst through midfield and powered in a 20-yard shot. The prospect of either side scoring the necessary 3 goals in the final 25 minutes was unlikely, and as it turned out 2-0 was the final score, meaning both sides missed the play-offs and the disappointing Swedes finished in 11th position.
