EXPERT PREDICTIONS |
Before the commencement of Konami Cup VI expert analysts Martin Denyer, Aaron Denyer, and Kurt Christensen made the following predictions about the standings at the end of the round-robin phase. Martin Denyer 1. Greece- it must be their turn. Of course, I support Greece, and I just can’t pick against them. They did show tremendous form at the last cup and I think they can carry that on. 2. Jamaica- no surprises here really. 3. Yugoslavia- I think Switzerland showed signs at Konami Cup V that they were a declining team. Yugoslavia looks the best of the other 6 teams to me. They have some quality in Sinisa Mihajlovic and Predrag Mijatovic especially. Usually there will be one team outside the big 3 who cracks the top 3. Yugoslavia looks the goods to me. 4. Switzerland- they are always a threat, but I see them as a slowly declining side, Especially that famous defence. I think they might struggle slightly this time. 5. Uruguay- they have showed flashes of reasonable form in recent international matches, at least until a humiliating 7-0 loss to Jamaica. Daniel Fonseca seems a rejuvenated player and along with Alvaro Recoba and Paolo Monterro will be the key to their success. 6. Belgium-I expect them to be reasonably competitive, and they do have experience on the big stage. Winning the Benson and Hedges off Spain was not only a huge victory, but also an encouraging sign as far as their form is concerned. 7. Turkey-probably one of the lesser lights. I don’t think they’ll be able to perform consistently enough to make the top 5. 8. Croatia-a team with ability, but their international form in recent times has been mediocre. Some of their stars are aging and I expect them to struggle. 9. Ukraine-they have a genuine star in Andrei Shevchenko. I expect them to be a 1-man team. Kurt Christensen 1. Jamaica 2. Switzerland 3. Uruguay 4. Greece 5. Yugoslavia 6. Belgium 7. Croatia 8. Ukraine 9. Turkey Aaron Denyer 1. Switzerland 2. Jamaica 3. Greece 4. Yugoslavia 5. Ukraine 6. Belgium 7. Uruguay 8. Croatia 9. Turkey |
