- Susan dumps a blind date, and a patient (who will recur for 3 episodes) develops an interest for her.

- Carter is delayed at the airport.

- The staff treats a prostitute who happens to be a caring mother of 2, high school students injured in a car accident, and an aging woman who's daughter won't consider a DNR because she needs her mother's social security checks.

-Patrick Fugit (White Oleander, Almost Famous) continues his role as a patient with testicular cancer that Susan is treating. His mother wants Susan to help him accept the seriousness of his condition.

-A guy who snatches Weaver's purse shows up at the ER later for treatment of the injuries he sustained earlier while escaping.

-A woman rushes her son to the ER after she accidently runs him over with her car.

-Maggie's in this one. Carter's back in this one. Eric's still missing. Abby's still a mess.

-Luka's sister-in-law brings her child to the United States to seek treatment from Luka, because no one seems to be able to give them a proper diagnosis in Croatia.

OVERMATCHED DR. PRATT TRIES TO PROTECT SELF-DESTRUCTIVE FRIEND; EMMY WINNER ED ASNER ALSO GUEST-STARS -- The protective Dr. Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) is overwhelmed when his mentally challenged roommate Leon (guest star Marcello Thedford) leads him to treat a gravely wounded suspect who was responsible for a robbery and holdup -- which also involved the easily duped Leon -- while Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) stuns Abby (Maura Tierney) when he decides to go to Africa where the medical needs are greatest. Elsewhere, Carter attends to the sickly Dr. McNulty (Emmy Award-winning guest star Ed Asner, "Lou Grant"), the curmudgeon he recently met who runs a storefront medical clinic; the emotionally fragile Dr. Romano (Paul McCrane) teeters on the brink of disaster and receives negative news regarding his recovery; Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) intends to carry out a threat made to Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes), who also re-encounters a grateful alderman (guest star Bruce Weitz, "Hill Street Blues") who returns bearing financial gifts; and a skilled and bold doctor (guest star Bruno Campos) makes a pass at a shocked Dr. Corday (Alex Kingston). ROMANO GET TROUBLING NEWS WHILE TEEN GIRLS ARE STRUCK BY ERRANT AUTO -- Abby (Maura Tierney) is distraught when she learns that her mentally troubled brother is missing while flying over the Great Lakes, a desperate Dr. Romano (Paul McCrane) gets some depressing news and the hospital staff is confronted with numerous teenaged girls who are run down by a fellow female student suffering from a rare disease that might have caused the tragedy. Elsewhere, Dr. Chen's (Ming-Na) relationship with Dr. Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) takes a new turn; a daughter wants to take extreme measures to keep her extremely elderly mother alive; Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes) gets a promotion from a grateful alderman (guest star Bruce Weitz, "Hill Street Blues") and Dr. Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) ponders her pending blind date with a hunk.
