Most of us in todays world are too busy to spend time doing the things that our mothers and grandmothers did. Not many of us bake bread from scratch, knit, sew or crochet. Something that is really unfortunate, as future generations will lose that ability.
I know that when I crochet something for someone, it means more to them then if I were to go out and buy something for them. They know, that the item that I made for them, was made with a lot of love and care. From deciding on a pattern, picking out the yarn, and spending the time making that item for them.
It is because of the fact that crochet has been threatened with becoming extinct that I teach a crochet class. It is my contribution to the people that live in my area. It thrills me when I hear a student tell me that they are teaching their daughter to crochet..or even their son.
So my dear friends, pass your craft skills on to future generations. If you do not...eventually they will no longer be seen.

My mother has always told a story about a wonderful woman that lived in the neighborhood where she grew up.
This woman could not have children of her own, and yet she loved them so. She invited all the little girls over to her house one day for tea. My mother was 6 at the time. She told the little girls that they were going to have a special club. It was going to be called the BCB club. BCB she explained stood for "Boys can't belong". The little girls would meet at her house often and she taught each and everyone of them how to crochet. What a legacy she left behind. My mother never forgot her.
My mother was never able to teach me to crochet. I am left handed and she just couldn't figure out how to do it. I found a night class for adults several years ago, when I lived in Oregon, and decided I would at least give it a try as I had always wanted to crochet. Happily, I will tell you that the lady there had experience teaching left handed people to crochet. And I have been crocheting up a storm ever since! :o)

I will try and keep this page updated and will add links as I find them. If you have links to sites you think should be here, please feel free to send them to me.

Another great idea is to make hats and simple baby blankets for hospitals in your area. Imagine how grateful a new mom would be to receive a blanket or hat for her newborn that was handmade. AND, think of how good it will make you feel to be doing something for someone else. I will have links to places where you can get patterns for the ideas I have suggested to you below. I have talked with someone at work and they have told me that the baby afghans should be the size of a regular pillowcase. :o)
