Fort Worden 2005

As usual, I attended the Fort Worden Kitemakers Conference in 2005. Here are the kites I built this time around.

Lepidoptera Freemanicus

John Freeman, one of my favorite kite makers and instructors, taught this original design of his. It is somewhat reminiscent of a moth, hence the name. The kite flies exceptionally well and at a high angle. It has quite a large sail area and can develop quite a strong pull.

Eyeclops

Roy Broadley of Basingstoke, England is the designer of the Eyeclops. This is truly a unique kite. It was a pain to build - lots of fibre glass spars to be threaded through tight curvy sleeves - but the result was worth it. Of course it's not a high performance flier, but it flies decently in spite of the wierd shape.
