    Dear Members of INCA;
I am currently working on a project for a Latin American Studies class on Inca musicians, and was hoping that maybe you could answer a few quick questions to help me out.

    1) where are the group members from originally?
    2) where do you live now? Did you move specifically to play music, or for other reasons?
    3) how long have you been playing music?
    4) how did your group members meet?
    5) did they all play music before moving to the U.S., or have they learned since moving here?
    6) how did you decide on the name for your group?
    7) what are the ethnic groups/ tribes that your members come from?
    8) is your group entirely men, or are women involved as well?
    9) what is the traditional role of women in music where you come from?
    10) do you write most of the songs you play, or are these songs that you learned before moving here?
    11) what instruments are used in your music?
    12) what type of events are you often hired to play? Where does most of your revenue as musicians come from?

Thanks so much for your time!!

    Liz

    Subject: Markahuasi found

Hello all; after reading Pachakuti's website, I got the correct spelling of the Puruvian band Markahuasi, and found them. They are at the following:

    E-mail: info@andeannation.com

    address: P.O. BOX 7907
         Albuquerque, NM 87194-7907
    phone: 1-888-355-4559

I've been trying to find them for years as I had the 2 cassettes they made, but lost them in the late 90's & forgot how they spelled their name. Once I read the correct spelling I entered it in "Google" & it popped up. This website also offers a wealth of other CD's and cassettes of other Andean (the 2 Markahuasi Disc's also come in cassettes here) + other misc. Andean stuff.

I am looking for the group called Machu Picchu. They came to Bele Chere in Asheville for two years and I braved the crowds to see them. Someone stole my cd's. My favorite had songs such as El Condor Pasa, La Negrita (I think!!), Floreseca el chuno, Aguas Claras, and one about losing his sombrero at the church and having to go back and get it. I think there was one called El Pajarrito.

I love the Andean music. It reminds me of old Scot or Gallic music in Spanish.

    From: Philippe Deschamp
    Subject: El condor pasa

    Hello all,

Can any of you provide me with the (Spanish) lyrics of the song ? I am the director of a singing choir, and we are rehearsing that song, but it seems a little short. The words we have are as follows (sorry for diacritics, the score is lacking them) :

Las alas del condor en cielo azul van gritando, sin cesar, Libertad...
Alla por los senderos del los cielos, van tranzando un poema : Libertad.
Hija de un pecho valiente de un clarin tiene el son
Y he chizo de primavera del condor la cancion

I apologize if this is not exactly well-formed, I do not speak Spanish and I try to make out the words from a score where words have been added without the necessary hyphens and without any punctuation.
I think I understand the first two verses :

The wings of the condor in the blue sky are shouting, without cease,
    Liberty...
Going by the paths of the skies, they draw a poem : Liberty.

But I am at a loss for the rest. And more importantly, I would like to sing more of it than what I have : we sing it twice at the moment, and still do not find this satisfactory. Can you please help me ?

    Thanks in advance.Thanks in advance.
    Cordialement,
    Philippe Deschamp

P.-S. : In case you wonder, I found your address by googling to http://www.oocities.org/SoHo/2248/question.html and reading :

    1. Do you know where I can get the lyrics to "EL CONDOR PASA" by Daniel Alonia Robles???
    2. I collect versions of El Condor Pasa. Do you know how I can get into touch with a band from Yugoslavia named Pachamama?
    3. I'm looking for the words of the song El condor pasa but not in english words. It begins like this: "Las alas del condor en cielo azul vangritando sincesar, libertad..." Maybe someone could send me the all song in this language.

Alles weitere könnte man dann ja später besprechen.
