The flags that are accessible here at the moment constitute a small sample from a growing list
of flag images. When completed, there ought to be more than 500 flag images in all.

Searching is by design : the top level sort is based upon the major criteria below; Within each set of images, the flags are sorted as to their principal colour (in the order indicated below), the number of horizontal or vertical bars (when appropriate), the absence or presence of superimposed items like circular designs, other flags (and notably the Union Jack), triangles etc. , and the location of these itme on the flag (canton, hoist, centre, etc.)

Colour ordering (an augmented rainbow):
"NONE", WHITE, BROWN/DARK RED, BRIGHT RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, LIGHT BLUE, DARK BLUE, BLACK.

The images shown are each of the same width. Their height is calculated from the official ratio of the flag when this can be determined.
Several flags can be found in more than one set depending on the complexity of the design and the possibility of "reading" it (and, therefore, of searching for it) in more than one way.

Top Level Design Characteristics:

Solid Background
Horizontal Bars
Vertical Bars
Both Horizontal and Vertical Bars
Other Designs: Diagonals (1 or 2), Rays, etc.
