SLEDGE'S LEDGE

Spiritual Freaks

"If people knew the true price of spirituality, there'd be more atheists."
-- Dr. Blockhead, The X-Files

First off, I don't consider myself to be a member of any religion or a proponent of any easily defined philosophy. My personal beliefs draw on numerous diverse sources and some of my own personal views which I haven't encountered in my readings.

I do think that there is a lot of merit in some (not all) of the central tenets of Taoism and Buddhism. The fundamental text of Taoism is the Tao Te Ching. As for Buddhism, there are two brands I have read up on, namely Zen Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism. A very comprehensive pan-Buddhist library is the Electronic Bodhidarma.

But most of my explorations in metaphysics are not in a quest to find religion, but to better understand myself. Powerful tools for this are often perceived by the general public as carnival scams or gypsy fortune telling deals. Tarot cards, I Ching coins and Rune stones are all great for helping me to identify trends and problems in my life. You should give them a shot before you dismiss them.

Finally, I believe in magic. There are numerous forms of this art; some are downright fraudulent but others are very real. I'm not really sure which ones are which. However, I like the goals and concepts of Asatru (Norse magick), Druidism and Shamanism. There's all sorts of other brands of magic out there as well, and they are exhaustively documented at Ander's Magick Page.
